Management Thread Blurst of Times

Francesco Aquilini needs to sell the team. I'm sick and tired of having this slumlord as the owner of the Canucks. Aquilini makes this franchise even more embarrassing than it already is. Penny pinching on the teams top prospect over the rumored 200k, and not having a practice facility after being told numerous of times by Canucks staff is just the icing on the cake for me. After years of suffering through the Benning era, we are on the verge of reaching that point again if we lose our greatest superstar Hughes. The refuse to rebuild when Linden suggested it years a go has set us back many years. Not only did we not develop any prospects in our system but Aquilini tarnished the name of the most beloved Canuck in our history. Linden got nothing but hatred from fans, but in all honesty he knew exactly what was going on all along. A rebuild was necessary and Aquaman wanted no part of it.

Sell the team buddy, your reign is done.

I hate our ownership, but I am also a bit scared of them selling the team. I mean who is going to buy it? Won't be a local, as the cost of the franchise now is sky high. Will it be someone who maybe looks to move when the Canadian dollar goes sideways?

The only thing worse than aqulini would be a conglomerate of not so wealthy people banding together to buy it. Unstable and prone to individuals whose outside businesses can affect their canucks commitments (ie money is tight, can't do rebuilds etc).

Just another pickle management has served up.

Now we need a new coach! errr….an entire new coaching staff! What a disaster of a season that is spilling into the offseason & beyond.

Been following this team for probably 20 years, this is the lowest point I've felt. I don't think it's entirely management's fault either, lots of variables that led to this demise which I can't even say on here because I would be banned.

Holy f*** someone tell Rutherford to quit talking. That Hughes golf quote honestly challenges anything Benning ever said.

Truly hilarious and pathetic.
the guy is the definition of a senile old grandpa. its a nightmare matchup having him in a canadian market. Allvin is fine, he is also brutally honest, its not like he gaslights you, but he doesnt speak more than he has to. like any sane office office ppl. Canucks need a new PoHO.

Imagine through these years , if we went light on the salary cap for a couple transition years. We'd have enough money for a practice facility. Instead , that money is in Loui Erikksons pockets. And we had lots of opportune times for these transition years

Maybe Red Bull would want to get into hockey in North America. And they could buy the team. They have a way of managing sports teams. They build it all from the ground up.

There was a moment though where someone asked a valid criticism question and Jimmy's first response after a 3 second pause was, 'thats fair'.

I dont remember Benning ever admitting critisicm was valid. So Jimmy has that going for him.

He’s exactly what the Canadian market needs, stop being weak.

The Messier years were darker. Lasted for only 3 years but it was a deeper dive. I think most who were there agree.

But this post Burke / Gillis era Canuck fandom... its been over a decade since we were relevant and no end in sight...

Then you either haven't actually been a close follower for 20 years, or you're blinded by emotion.

Prior to your times, the Messier years were incredibly bleak.

And then the 2015-2017 team was a bleak team with no reinforcements coming immediately (thankfully we drafted Hughes and Petey and Boeser continued to develop).

This isn't even close.

This is a reload.

I hate our owner and wonder if our ceiling is impacted by his shortsighted stupidity, but this isn't even close to the worst.

Well there was a lot of excitement in Messier’s first year with Bure and Mogilny still in the fold. We thought we would be contending. Later on you of all people should have noticed the shining light which was Marcus Naslund. :sarcasm:

Except that at the time many of us wanted a rebuild anyways and just drafted Horvat (who was arriving), Virtanen/McCann/Demko, Boeser, and later Juolevi, Pettersson, and Hughes. So while no reinforcements were coming immediately per se and we didn’t try to rebuild, these guys were either developing well or top 10 picks. Even when we made the Miller trade we were drafting #10 that year and added Podkolzin. Certainly the future appeared brighter in summer 2018 and 2019 than now. Heck we have Willander coming and many here thinks he will be traded. How’s that for optimism.

I dont think the future looked bright at any point during Bennings tenure. He was so obviously way out of his depth just blunder after blunder and a lost opportunity after lost opportunity.

But at least then I could wait for the inevitable new management. Right now Im scared the current group gets let go and Bennind 2nd gets hired in their stead.

Don't be scared off by my avatar, I've had a soft spot for the Canucks for a while. I've listened to particular people complain about Benning for years. He's still worse than Rutherford, although the next couple of years might end up changing things. You know that .gif of Wesley Snipes crying while he points a gun? That's what I feel about getting Quinn in the next couple of years. Still better than not having him, but it won't give me pleasure when it happens.

If Ryan Reynolds is willing to go through this process again, he seems like the perfect guy to be the face of an ownership group of a couple of people. The only problem is that he doesn't have the money to do it on his own. But it kind of makes sense, doesn't it? He's a Vancouver boy, he made a name for himself as an actor, he branched out into business and was successful, he kind of needs some good PR right now with the Justin Baldoni stuff, and he's even shown he can get involved with sports ownership and get them turned around.

Aside from his own lack of individual wealth, the only other obstacle is whether he even wants to go through the process of buying a team. Reynolds seemed pretty turned off by the whole ordeal after dropping out of consideration for the Sens. But if he does, why not?

As a young teen, the Messier years felt forever but in hindsight, it was a quick 2-3 year retool where we added a plethora of young talent and you could see there was some vision and semblance of a plan on the backside of it.

Right now, it's incredibly bleak because we all know nothing will change unless ownership sells....which may not happen until they die.

We might be in a better positon relative to the Benning years, but watching this retool fail in rapid fashion paired with the knowledge that we're not allowed to rebuild leaves me with an impending feeling of doom. Feels like it's all building towards Quinn Hughes' departure, and if and when that happens, there's a strong case to call that an all-time low point.

It's going to be Chip Wilson, isn't it?

Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire.

Zero chance this franchise moves. The team is in the top half of the league in terms of valuation.
