The two trades last week sort of remind me of '91 and '94.

...the Ronning, Courtnall, Momesso and Dirk trade

...the Brown, Hedican, and Lafayette trade

Trades that in one changed the makeup of the team immediately.

Looking for a young center, just one?

EP40's value is plummeting on this team.
But
Look at JT Miller's resurgence. That helps that his prowess has started to return once away from this team, it suggests that EP40's play can have a similar resurrection.

There are teams that will want EP40 not just for this season but for various future reasons. Some teams need a featured player to sell tickets around. Some just need a shake up.

As long as Allvin doesn't hold out that EP40 is suddenly going to reverse the last 100+ games on this team an try to value him the same as McKinnon like players then I am sure a deal can be made before the TDL.

Even if the team is fighting for a WC spot lately EP40 hasn't been a driver of that run, in fact barely noticeable except for blocking shots and a notable defensive presence. Almost any replacement will be an addition at this point on this team.

The last couple of games the team looked more like a team without Hughes. Just an observation. Actually the team has won more when he has been out of the lineup.

Really should have just kept Tanner Pearson. May have prevented all this.

Richardson explained today that when leaving the Canucks in 2022, he told Patrik Allvin what needed to happen to get the most from Miller.

“I love J.T. Miller. He’s a great guy. I’d take him on my team. But I told [Allvin], you’ve got to surround a guy like J.T. Miller with veteran players, or you’re going to be f**ked,” said Richardson on the Missin Curfew podcast.

“That’s how you calm J.T. Miller down. You’ve got to have a veteran group that knows how to settle him down at the right times when he gets a little off the rails because he does. If you get him dialled in, he’s an unbelievable player, and he’s a great guy, but he needs veteran guys around him, or he gets squirrely.”

I know i did but I'm sure I'm not the only one who called that about Miller. I had wondered if the situation was salvageable by bringing in a veteran guy with clout who's main role would be to tell JT to shut the f*** up and sit the f*** down when needed.

Pretty embarrassing if 31-year-old Miller needs veteran guys to keep him in check.

Feels like he never matured. It's just that everything was going so well for him (i.e. won vs Horvat, Tocc's style of play and trust, 20% shooting for him and Brock, etc) that the worst part of him never showed up in his 103 pt season. It says a lot that once something didn't go well, he had to take a leave of absence and decided that it was time to move on.

Funny, well not really.

Listening to a Toronto media guy.
Fans there think their core is stale, needs changing.
Playoffs 8 years in a row.
Think that 8 years is long enough that the core has hit their ceiling and must be changed.

and here in Vancouver some posters and fans are wanting to keep the same players trying to do the same thing going back 9 years with one fluke year.

Is that why TO wins in the easy season? Because their fans and independent media puts pressure on winning rather that the "flow" or the cute "huggy bear".

Even with Mathews, Marner, Nyland, Rielly the TO fans want change. These guys have had a long enough runway without winning more in the PLAYOFFS.
In Vancouver making the playoffs at all has been too challenging. But there are fanatics afraid of change.

The TO media guy says the best or most fun watching was when TO played 7 rookies all at the same time which ended up with 8 constitutive playoff appearances.

The task is actually pretty damn clear.
The defense looks rebuilt led by Quinn Hughes a Norris winner and best D-men in the league today, and anchored by Hronek, M-Pettersson.

Third and fourth line looks great. It’s time we trade Pettersson and Boeser. Clearly they have become stale and IMO any forward we get back from a trade with them will have his game elevated by Hughes.

Pettersson is even sucking this much having the best puck mover in the league.

I think management is waiting to see if Mike Sullivan becomes available at the end of the season. I believe he's their choice for coach rather than Tocchet longterm. Pettersson doesn't fit in with Tocchet's system and I don't think he's been happy every since Kuzmenko was dealt and he got threatened with a trade to Carolina. I think it's the wrong move though, Pettersson should be dealt because I think they will also overspend on another winger for him this offseason thinking it will cure his problems.

That tactic didn't work on me. Mr C told me to shut the f*ck up & calm down in the special powers forum section. :sarcasm:

I'd also take a hard look at who is responsible for coaching the power play. Even if *ONE* player sucks ass on the ice, having a Norris trophy winner at the point should mean the Canucks power player should better than merely average.

could this be the right move? what does sullvian do differently compared to his first stint here even though he was an interim when torts was suspended.

Two, but then I PVR them and skip through but I did watch the first two. It certainly showed me just how bad this team is. Here he was THE MAN and there he is just another player, better than average but just a player.

The 4 Nations tourney shows a difference between good on this team vs good compared to other players.
I actually think Hoglander would be better on Sweden.
They have a big decision to make on Lankinen.
Do the Canucks have a Canadian on team Canada?

But they already had Linden, Bure, Larionov, McLean, .... most of the team already.
And they were already a top team in the league and making the playoffs.

The only commonality this early is maybe the number of players involved
Player also had no trade protection then either.

The Canucks were a team trying to scrape into the playoffs (when 4 of 5 made it) in 1991, and were an underachieving .500 team in 1994. In neither case were they a top team in the league, although the ‘94 team had previously won the Smythe twice and were not in danger of missing despite their middling record.

keenan was on ferraro’s podcast with dreger recently and he was asked about petey/miller. he didn’t directly answer the question but talked about resolving the untenable situation of linden/messier (a “philosophical difference,” he called it). which he then compared to trading denis savard to chris chelios, concluding that hey they (chicago) made it to the finals.

so if anyone wants to be enraged, enjoy.

Messier: "I think I should be captain, since I am important and you're not."
Linden: "Well I wouldn't quite say—"
Keenan: "It sounds like you two have a philosophical difference."

I'd rather be getting an enema from the Marquis de Sade than listen to Mike Keenan. ;)

Management sold low on Miller and after Pettersson's complete no show at the Four Nations, his stock couldn't be any lower.

They're going to have to unload him before the NTC kicks in, and the return is not going to be great.

They really botched this entire thing.

What Gillis did with Luongo and Schneider looks like a Hall of Fame level masterclass compared to Rutherford and Allvin.
