Well it was accurate all the way stillsorry i didnt even write that i just stole the post from somewhere else
Yup. I mentioned this in the M. Petey trade thread, but our forward setup worked because there were two 1st line centers that could each play with a non-top 6 forward. We went from Pettersson, Miller, and Horvat to Pettersson at 50%, Chytil (one hit away from retirement) and the likes of Suter and Blueger down the middle. Unless the plan is to offer sheet Bedard or throw $20 million at McDavid next season, I don't see how this team can contend.
No, Hronek was 24 when he was traded. Pettersson is 28. That’s a big difference, and a pending free agent. So 28/29 is our new "age gap." Lankinen, Sherwood, Heinen, Debrusk, Zadorov, Lindholm, Old D-Petey, they're all 28/29 this season.
With Fernstrom gone, we've essentially traded the first 3 picks from last year's draft and we traded NYI's 1st, our 2nd, and our 3rd round pick in the 2023 draft. The return that is still with us? Hronek and one could technically say Old D-Petey due to Fernstrom's inclusion in the trade with the Penguins.
I'm fine with the Hronek trade. At the very least we essentially got him starting from age 26 so we effectively have him through his prime years. We paid a slightly lesser price for Old D-Petey. For those who are concerned about term for Zadorov (which management was) there's no way Old D-Petey gets less unless the Canucks overpay in AAV.
Yes.Has this management group actually made us worse? When they took over we had Miller Pettersson and Horvat down the middle and Hughes. Now we just have Pettersson and Hughes.
Are you trolling? The forward lines are the worst we've had since old Sedins carried Granlund to 20 goals. Jimbo left the franchise in shambles but the forwards were much better than what we have now. The bald bros did an excellent job for one season but managed to f*** up everything after the season ended. Right now we look like Arizona during OEL's prime. You should be prepared from some terrible hockey with not much scorring from the canucks. You guys think the team is currently worse than it was under Benning? Jesus.
You could have prime Crosby on Benning’s team and be a perennial lottery team. Are you trolling? The forward lines are the worst we've had since old Sedins carried Granlund to 20 goals. Jimbo left the franchise in shambles but forwards were much better than what we have now.

Because Jimbo could not build a defence to save his life and was a moron. JR is smart but very impatient and ego driven. Jimbo's incompetence is not an excuse for JR to piss away talent. He plugged a hole on defence but created a huge one on offence. You could have prime Crosby on Benning’s team and be a perennial lottery team.
Allvin screwed the pooch on this deal. He wanted too much and after Carolina got Rantenen his options declined. That Miller also had a NMC limited him as well. So two of Allvin's mistakes came back to bite him.Because Jimbo could not build a defence to save his life and was a moron. JR is smart but very impatient and ego driven. Right now JR has 1 excellent season and 2,5 bad ones. I give him a pass for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons since he had to fix Jimbo's mess but the this terrible season is all on him.
Yes they have. 100%Has this management group actually made us worse? When they took over we had Miller Pettersson and Horvat down the middle and Hughes. Now we just have Pettersson and Hughes.
Did Hronek and MPetey die?Has this management group actually made us worse? When they took over we had Miller Pettersson and Horvat down the middle and Hughes. Now we just have Pettersson and Hughes.
I mean yes, but that was clearly not the plan. I was a Horvat over Miller guy at the time, but there was no way you could predict two grown men would start acting like teenage girls.
Not sure you could predict how this would end, but it’s a feud that has been going for 5 years and one of the reasons we lost Bo…. Signs were there.
Hronek was 25 when we acquired him and turned 26 at the beginning of the following season. Hence I said we essentially got Hronek starting from his 26 year old season. And yes Old D-Petey is 28 and will be 29 at the start of next season. Big difference indeed. No, Hronek was 24 when he was traded. Pettersson is 28. That’s a big difference, and a pending free agent.
That's what sucks. They are unforced errors (as everyone knows I've been arguing making room for Pods but instead we went out and signed Heinan and Sprong who we needed to get rid of). But we shouldn't be so desperate to dump Heinan and Descharnais. Heinan is meh for what he brings but he is an NHL player and an upgrade over a replacement level min wage guy. The bad money here isn't a whole lot. Not the end of the world to stick with the two for another year. You can probaby trade a mid round pick to get rid of Descharnais in the summer. The value of which is probably not such a high pick, but again having to dump a bunch of money in errors in scouting made it higher.
It’s a whatever trade if we’re able to re-sign him. But it speaks to the impatience of management.
When was the last time we signed a highly desired UFA?
Dan Hamhuis? Mats Sundin?
On the point of management impatience, Rutherford was really good at acquiring guys who end up being youngish top 4 Dmen at a relatively low price in Pittsburgh (Old D-Petey included). Bear wasn’t a top 4 Dman but he was serviceable. We paid a big price for Hronek but we got him for his prime years. Zadorov was older but he came cheap. The price we paid here for Old D-Petey is extravagant. If you talked to Penguins fans before the trade I think many expected getting a late 1st at best.

Loui Eriksson.
