Pittsburgh is a hockey market but still not comparable to a Canadian market, especially with fans like in Vancouver.
Maybe little things that would slide under the radar in Pittsburgh, where they could just go don't look at this, how about them steelers? Where in Vancouver we've got twitter sleuths and "people don't forget" type attitude fans who don't miss anything.

yes. when you have a contract almost every firing comes with a separation agreement that includes things like ndas, non disparagement clauses and yes a "payoff" to induce you to sign it

Who is scoring goals? lol.
Garland should never be a PP1 option.
Not many free agent options under the age of 30.
Lets say that Marner and Rantanen are gone.
You only have Ehlers, Mangiapange, Bennett as top 6 options under age of 30.

Lost a ton of confidence with the organization after Rutherford's recent comments.

Maybe a change of focus about the team.
Instead of all the negativity surrounding a rebuild, find the positives.
First off rebuild need not be like Buffalo and Arizona.
Not every player need to be traded off, just the core, EP, JTM, TD, BB in as short a period as possible so most the assets returned are in one or two years.
Many teams will/might be more willing to trade their top prospects or picks over disturbing their roster right now. Not a super star but is there a Suzuki out there? Rantenen didn't start off blowing away the competition.
The cap space acquired is priceless because it can be used for anything or in any trade
IF this year and next end up bad there is the return for Hughes, the 2026 #1 pick that could be McKenna. There is no doubt of Hughes value especially with an additional year at 7.5 mil.
The room is cleaned of established cliques or long term personality conflicts and the losing culture embedded over the last 7/8 years.
I don't name players in trades with the exception of NHL draft picks as scouted by many outfits.
But there are many buried players on teams.
Rutherford's time here could be short but a rebuild of this type is pretty much unheard of where so many good to decent players are traded in one season by one team.
Not as many teams in the hunt for a playoff spot in the east in years, many others needing a boost to be in the hunt. Even Buffalo is only team really out but they need to re-enthuse their fanbase
Whoever what happens in Vancouver is the important thing. Is it taking a chance? Sure is but that is better than the certainty this this core has failed for 6 of 7 years and counting.
This present chase for a WC spot is no different than the 5 years before the fluke year with the same core group. That isn't progress it is stagnation.

Employers don't have all the power. If Doerrie was under contract and they wanted to fire her they would have to pay her what she is due. They could certainly offer Doerrie extra to not go file a human rights complaint but my point being that I think that is unusual. From what I've read of Doerrie's complaint, it's hardly a slam dunk case where I can see the Canucks' lawyers recommending paying her a significant amount of money to keep quiet. I would be surprised if Canucks' lawyers didn't say it's BS. You also have to remember Doerrie's position as well. She's young and potentially had/has a bright future ahead in hockey.

In the past, he has always felt like he could find a solution to any tricky situation, Rutherford told The Globe and Mail during an interview on Monday, “and I felt like for a long time that there was a solution here because everybody has worked on it, including the parties involved.”

Of course, personality differences exist in every NHL dressing room. For as long as the league has existed, there have been situations where players haven’t liked one another. You would think that in this case, an alpha male who likes to push his weight around like Miller, 31, and a more sensitive and soft-spoken player like Pettersson, 26, could put their differences aside for the good of the team. But apparently not.
“We’ve had those conversations and I think the parties understand that and I think they’ve tried,” Rutherford told me. “As you know, sometimes emotions get deep and as much as people try sometimes you can’t get over it. It certainly appears that’s what’s going on here.”
“We’re talking about two of our top players,” Rutherford said. “Certainly, our two best forwards. It can really be tough on a franchise – not only present but into the future – when you’re planning on peaking this team into a contending team and then you find out that’s not going to happen. Or at least it’s not going to happen with the group we have now. Then you have to put together a new plan.”
“When you don’t have chemistry, it’s hard to be that consistent team because there’s too much going on in the room for everybody to concentrate on what they’re supposed to do,” Rutherford said.
I asked Rutherford if he means the Miller-Pettersson drama has impacted the entire team.
“Yes, yup,” he said.
Rutherford and his general manager, Patrik Allvin, are uncertain if removing one of either Pettersson or Miller will fix the problem. “We don’t know,” Rutherford said. “We’ll just have to wait to find out. We’ll have to take it a step at a time. If we try and do it too fast, that’s really when you can make some mistakes.”
“If we were going to completely start over that means [Hughes] goes,” Rutherford told the Globe. “And we’d like to figure out a way that he’s here forever.”
“We’ll have to do the best we can in trades,” Rutherford said. “Whatever assets you get in return, you may turn them into something else. And we have to work our way back into being a contending team.”
“So yeah, if a centre goes out of here we have to get some kind of centre back but it’s not going to be the same as the centre going out. It might not even be a No. 2 centre, but you’d have to do the best with what we have until we figure out how to fill that spot back in.
“And then, of course, you have to get extra things [in any trade] that you can either use in the future to flip for NHL players now or for other positions or things like that.”

So you're suggesting the Canucks pre-emptively pay Doerrie off without having her even threaten a lawsuit?
And how do you suggest the Canucks "make the parting not as devastating to her career and reputation" aside from keeping her around?
Aquilini hired Jim Rutherford to deal with this. Why would you want Aquilini to be out answering questions?

Interesting, I actually gained confidence with what he said.
He's priming the fanbase for a longer timeline. In order to get people to believe him, he's giving up unflattering truths we already knew.

It was bizarre to see the Miller-Pettersson feud on the front page of the Globe this morning, right under the findings of the foreign interference inquiry. Big news! Anyway, if one of them gets sent to a team Stateside, I hope we don't get slapped with a "25% retention" tariff.
