So 28/29 is our new "age gap." Lankinen, Sherwood, Heinen, Debrusk, Zadorov, Lindholm, Old D-Petey, they're all 28/29 this season.

With Fernstrom gone, we've essentially traded the first 3 picks from last year's draft and we traded NYI's 1st, our 2nd, and our 3rd round pick in the 2023 draft. The return that is still with us? Hronek and one could technically say Old D-Petey due to Fernstrom's inclusion in the trade with the Penguins.

I'm fine with the Hronek trade. At the very least we essentially got him starting from age 26 so we effectively have him through his prime years. We paid a slightly lesser price for Old D-Petey. For those who are concerned about term for Zadorov (which management was) there's no way Old D-Petey gets less unless the Canucks overpay in AAV.

We went from Pettersson, Miller, and Horvat to Pettersson at 50%, Chytil (one hit away from retirement) and the likes of Suter and Blueger down the middle. Unless the plan is to offer sheet Bedard or throw $20 million at McDavid next season, I don't see how this team can contend.
Yup. I mentioned this in the M. Petey trade thread, but our forward setup worked because there were two 1st line centers that could each play with a non-top 6 forward.

Now that it's thrown out the window they're in desperate need of a legitimate top 6 center (lmao good luck with that) and probably another top 6 winger.

Also this team is screwed on the faceoff dot. You got Blueger at 50%, and Petey/Suter/Chytil at 40-43%.

No, Hronek was 24 when he was traded. Pettersson is 28. That’s a big difference, and a pending free agent.

The value of which is probably not such a high pick, but again having to dump a bunch of money in errors in scouting made it higher.

It’s a whatever trade if we’re able to re-sign him. But it speaks to the impatience of management.

You guys think the team is currently worse than it was under Benning? Jesus.
Are you trolling? The forward lines are the worst we've had since old Sedins carried Granlund to 20 goals. Jimbo left the franchise in shambles but the forwards were much better than what we have now. The bald bros did an excellent job for one season but managed to f*** up everything after the season ended. Right now we look like Arizona during OEL's prime. You should be prepared from some terrible hockey with not much scorring from the canucks.

You could have prime Crosby on Benning’s team and be a perennial lottery team.

Has this management group actually made us worse? When they took over we had Miller Pettersson and Horvat down the middle and Hughes. Now we just have Pettersson and Hughes.

I mean yes, but that was clearly not the plan. I was a Horvat over Miller guy at the time, but there was no way you could predict two grown men would start acting like teenage girls.

Because Jimbo could not build a defence to save his life and was a moron. JR is smart but very impatient and ego driven. Jimbo's incompetence is not an excuse for JR to piss away talent. He plugged a hole on defence but created a huge one on offence.

Right now JR has 1 excellent season and 2,5 bad ones. I give him a pass for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons since he had to fix Jimbo's mess but the this terrible season is all on him.

Allvin screwed the pooch on this deal. He wanted too much and after Carolina got Rantenen his options declined. That Miller also had a NMC limited him as well. So two of Allvin's mistakes came back to bite him.

This is a losing group last year was a fluke and other than that they have achieved nothing even with 100pt forwards and a Norris winning dman.
The problem is deep. A losing culture.

Is winning 20 games in RW that much worse than winning 26 in RW? The loser points will keep a team close for months.
Would watching eg: a 19yr old McKenna grow, other 20ish players get better be so bad? Isn't that what fans were doing only watching one at a time? why not 3 or 4 at once?

Build a decent defence, decent goaltending and a solid bottom six and this team will perform pretty close to what it is now only with several top six forwards getting their legs.

Trade for and get as many very high draft picks as possible and trade for very young dmen, Nemec, Silyaev, Jiricek types, RFA guys so a long term bridge deal can be made.

Plan for the day Quinn signs with his brothers, pretty much a forgone expectation. Hoping it won't happen has failed with teams recently. Calgary, Tkachuk, The Peg with Dubois and probably some lessers as well.

IMO if they don't have Hughes pen t paper or very strong indications he will re-sign here by June 1 2026 then trade him at the draft and try for the #1 overall or multiple top 10 picks. IMO the Canucks need this year a top ten, no higher, two if possible and 2 in 2026, three in the top 18 would be good too. That would probably have the foundation for a decade almost if most work out.
While the cap won't be as much a concern the 4.75 mil paid OEL is still an impact, having younger RFAs pretty much eliminates that impact.

Yes they have. 100%

It’s insane they’re even employed. Complete insubordination

We’ve all mocked the Oilers in many different ways. They still have McD, Drai and RNH down the middle. They’ve had every idiot in the world manage them and even they understood you build down the middle and back end.

It’s only the Canucks that think picking the softest of the 3C’s was the best idea and traded away the other two C’s who are built for western conference playoffs.

Not only did they pick him they made him the 5th highest paid player in the world when the entire world seen all his red flags.

Not sure you could predict how this would end, but it’s a feud that has been going for 5 years and one of the reasons we lost Bo…. Signs were there.
