good thing we'll never have to experience one given our wise management constantly retooling instead of rebuilding

Benning left such a mess that goes on for years yet there might have to be more than just a rebuild.

One question was asked about who?
Next year is 2023/24
Pettersson was drafted in 2017, he is not a prospect
Hughes drafted 2018
Demko in 2014

Years ago!

The rest of the team, regular players right now, will be in their 30's in a very few years. Even Kuzmenko

While some of the younger guys are important they are not vital and are relatively easily replaced. They are necessary, the 3rd and 4th line guys but not difference makers if the rest of the team isn't superior to other teams.

So yes, Pettersson should also be on the trade block, he WILL get a huge return that will or could fill the top six or add to the top 2 dmen.

Hughes should also be on the block.

Right now.

Any deficiencies in their games can be blamed on the combined group rather than an individual player. This enhances league perception and their values.

Kuzmenko was free and can be used as an included asset in a trade to move Miller or maybe even OEL. That would be an excellent outcome. I would lean towards Miller because OEL can be bought out in 3 years or even a 50% retention is easier and cheaper but Miller cannot be either.

While teams are reluctant to trade any firsts this year there are some teams that would make that trade especially teams that feel they are close and already have many young prospects and picks yet.

A blow it up rebuild will take time, maybe as much as 4 years to become better than they are now but with good drafting, cap control and player evaluations plus exceptional returns from Pettersson, Demko, Hughes, Horvat that time could be shorter.

Combined with intentional poor standings and future first round picks garnered from trades, GM's are more inclined to trade a 1rst 2 years down the road and that class is basically an unknown. Scouting would need to be stealthy but could get a hand up on some trades for futures. So much information is available but how many NHL teams pay much attention to 14/15 year olds?

A place to spend some extra money eh?

IMO Pettersson would get two 1rsts, Hughes one additional anyway plus 2nds, Horvat could get one and Demko

That could mean up to 7 first round picks over the next 3 years, that is like 7 years of rebuilding in three years.
And if they got lucky and better at drafting like Dallas they could end up with a group similar to Dallas's 2017 draft class.

The thing is there would be a direction to go with a longer term plan and lots of players to promote to the market just like they have been doing with a single player most seasons under Benning. It would satisfy just about all the fans, those that are all about finding their little favourite and for those looking further down the line.

I think there is a rule about NHL scouts at PeeWee/Bantam games but evidently not Junior teams and agents seem to be able to get access pretty early. Besides there is so much on social media it would be a silly rule to try to enforce.

It is time management showed fans what the plan is!

Facto Non Verba!

They’re setting themselves up to fail again. I mean, is this organization’s plan to basically not have a farm system, pay everyone UFA salaries, and try to strictly through free agency and trades? That’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see how it works out for them.

For a couple guys who largely benefited from Crosby and Malkin, these guys have a fairly high opinion of themselves.

so they are targeting young centers with the horvat trade is what they keep hearing.

1) the center probably has to be struggling or the team wouldn't trade him
2) He'd have to be older as this team doesnt have patience
3) Massive amounts of """"pedigree""" that he is still living off of

any candidates for that????????

sounds like somebody like Alex Turcotte

Trade Horvat for a massive futures based haul and tank the rest of the year to ensure a top 5-10 pick in the best draft since 2015.

Or trade Horvat in a hockey trade for more age gap crap and continue trying to finish in the mushy middle.

We know what these idiots will choose.

I'd be shocked if Kent Johnson was traded

he lives in Rick Nashes Guest house and is about to center Laine and Gaudreau tonight.

I would to but I also don't think the Blue Jackets are actually serious about acquiring Horvat.

If they do acquire a centre, I think it'll either be in the Alex Newhook-style (young centre that isn't able to fill the needed role this year and the trading team is willing to take the potential future loss of production because they view themselves as contenders now) or Roslovic or Laughton-type where they are a smaller piece of the deal that will literally replace Horvat's roster spot and are there for salary matching but aren't anywhere close to the main piece coming back.

To those who are preaching for a rebuild. Here is a thought, the most important thing is not the direction of the team but the people executing on it.
If this management group is incompetent, then they are very likely to f*** a rebuild or a build.
So really the thing you guys should be looking at is, are these guys competent. If not we are f***ed regardless of what path they take.
I don’t see enough signals to determine whether they are incompetent or not but hey you guys do you.

This team certainly doesn't seem interested in being better, despite all of the desperation about contending and making the playoffs we consistently refuse to reward players for good play and we refuse to ice players who help us win in favour of players who are overpaid and bad.

We're getting Horvat pissed and wanting to move on, and we aren't giving Kuzmenko chances to be his best. Hoglander and Podkolzin have both had their development tossed in the bin. Burroughs is the 4th best defender on the team and can barely get in a game.

But we're not rebuilding, it doesn't make sense, and it seems like we have no f***ing plan how to get better. Do they hope that one of our players agents is going to be able to negotiate a steal of a trade for us? Do they think someone is going to help us out? Absolute losers

imac is pretty aggressive today in defending the status quo- did someone from the team instruct that?

Spouting absolute nonsense during the intermission of paying Horvat slightly higher than Hintz and giving Pettersson his new deal.

And have the core of Hughes, Pettersson, Horvat, Miller, Demko.

Insanely expensive core.

I wanted to come through the radio and strangle him this morning on the 650 morning show.

The main problem is that outside of Pettersson none of those players are actually as good as management seems to think they are.

So if you ad in OEL cause you can't trade him

that's like rough rough math of $45-50 Million for those 6 players.

That's basically it in a nutshell. In order to keep this group together, they won't be able to afford basically anyone else. Unfortunately, that group is not good enough.

That's called your window being closed.
