Malkin is a dumb idiot who hurts his team more than he helps. Especially now, at this stage of his career and his health condition. Cap hit of 6,1 mln is way too big for what he provides on the ice, especially in playoffs.

Apparently the team management consider the last few seasons a great success, because they are going to basically bring back the same team. Same core, same goaltending, same coaching staff... Except the "stars" are yet another year older and even more washed out and unmotivated.

It's sad that the franchise has forgone an opportunity to refresh itself, turn the page, move in the new direction and start building a new, young contending team. Now we are stuck with at least 3-4 more years of limbo and mediocrity. This washed out core will be struggling to make the playoffs and then get spanked in the first round. While at the same time they won't be able to draft high and get prime psospects who would become new cornerctones of the next generation.

It's sad.

No, they stopped that a long time ago. Now it's mostly just him talking about soccer, food, and how he's the smartest guy in the world.
Well we have a board full of smartest people in the world right here... hell, the internet is filled with the smartest people in the world !!

He likes fitbaw? What club / league does this joker guy like/talk about.

IMO Malkin should pay the Penguins not the other way around!

This is a fair deal, but it still carries a lot of risk from the team's side. It's a compromise. I'm fine with it. It would have been an interesting experiment to see if the team played with more discipline top to bottom with a 2 way guy like Trochek.

They still need to effect some kind of change here. Zucker and Petterson still need to go ASAP. Their cap has to be used effectively in FA. Or else we're still one and done in the playoffs as constructed. I think it's likely too late to make this happen.

I mean i know the core is older but i look at the roster and it's one of the stronger rosters on paper. Some small minor adjustments and UTILIZING f***ING YOUTH would be perfect.
That last sentence is a romantic desire, it's also desperately required. Color me skeptical that you are going to get your wish today and beyond. The combination of Sully/Hex gave us Boyle for the entire year.

The end of the world was yesterday. Day late dollar short.

But anyway -- it makes me wonder the NHL and parity etc. So if you're good, you aren't too likely to draft next level talent, but it does happen I suppose. You have to lose to maybe get a once a generation pick and that's even if you keep the pick and don't sell it trying to bolster a team. It's just unique position for the penguins to be in, AGAIN. That down the road there is no way to avoid having to be terrible - in order to get good again.

Great video. My favorite part? They made it ALL about Malkin. Not Malkin and Crosby. Just Malkin. Feel like the media and team always has to include Sid into Geno things which I get but Geno should be celebrated on his own too.

Was this the farewell video we never had to use ha. Damn I’m happy this got done.

We got the best players at the best price, and like Sully I still think they have another run in them. This core is special, they are a different breed, even though time will eventually come for them too. Need some retooling and luck.

6.1 cap hit is nice for a player of Geno's caliber, obviously the term balances it out. Whether the signing works out or not will probably mostly come down to his health, that's the main concern with him, I don't doubt that he could be an effective player at 40 if his body allows it.

There might be a few posters on here who spend an inordinate amount of time telling people how right they were about things

Four more years of dumb penalties, lazy play, & declining skill. Glad to see we blew valuable cap space instead of actually reshaping the roster, to I don't know, get better.

can't disagree with any of this. It's just more of the same which hasn't won a playoff series since 2018. Fans on here don't care about the logo, they care more about who is wearing the logo. Hell, if I knew it would guarantee a Cup, I'd trade anyone on the roster to make it happen...including Sid.

DK's show,on YouTube, re Geno was a good listen. Mainly him taking a victory lap about being right, but some good stuff in there. Funny stuff on hockey fans in general.

Literally folks, you know those viral videoes of a boyfriend surprising his girlfriend with a kitten or a puppy and the girl just starts crying and saying stuff like We get to keep him, he's ours in a cute happy crying high pitched tone?

That was me at work: "Geno? The Penguins are keeping Geeeeno, he's staaaaying?!"

We needed change but no real change was made. Maybe it will come with free agency or with our defense.

I would have signed a younger center that had better 5 on 5 numbers but I understand why they signed our favorite player based on the FA options.

But keeping Geno vs. "guarantee cup" aren't the options here. The options are:

Geno in 2C @ $6.1M
vs.
[Somebody from this FA class] in 2C

After reading the comments I was begining to think I am the only one who thinks this is a bad move. This was a good opportunity to rid us of Malkin and maybe get a better 2C. Geno was great in his time, but that time has passed. Now we have four more years of him playing 50-75% of the games. Four more years of half-ass play and hot headed decisions costing us games. This has been a one line team for a few years now and i don't see that changing this year. I hope I am wrong, but I see another old and slow team with a first round exit coming this year.

If Geno was still himself he would have carried the team to victory after Sid was taken out in the Rangers series, but he did NOTHING. Sigh.
