Number 9 was an incredible player , slow to anger but whoa ... a physical beast that had skill as well. HOF player , integral piece of the dynasty.

Prototypical Western Canadian big body with scoring touch.

yeah physical mistakes are to be expected, his decision making is pretty excellent for a young guy

plus his heart rate when he plays prolly looks like _____[sub]^[/sub]______[sub]^[/sub]_______[sub]^[/sub]_____

That's just because he doesn't watch the games live on television. You haven't experienced stress until you've watched the Jets play a game up by 1 or 2 goals in the third.

Happy with the win!

I thought everyone played very well through two periods but I wasn't happy with going into a shell in the third like we did.

The PP still needs an awful lot of work and the pk is starting to look a bit dysfunctional again.

IMHO unless you totally outclass the opposition (which we rarely ever do, and I don't think we did here) it's going to be hard to resist that pushback from a trailing home team and dominate them for a full 60. For the most part I don't think the Jets turtle up more than the average team. But I haven't crunched any numbers (games lost while leading? Goals against while leading? Goals against while leading in third? etc.). Just my impression from watching hockey in general.

The main cause of my over consumption of alcoholic beverages can be directly linked to The Winnipeg Jets..

Fixed that for ya.

I think I high percentage of the HFJets users are probably a little heavy on the bottle...
So much potential, so many pizza's...and what better to go with pizza? Beer! (or tequila if we are losing)

I almost feel like we committed grand larceny picking Trouba...I feel like someone is going to take him away from us...and it gives me the "no" feeling.

Yes, this is a good point. We've lost a few games late in the games this year, but the reasons have been colossal mistakes in the last 1-5 mins of the game, more so than going into a shell. Ones off the top of my head:

- Bogosians giveaway against Ducks
- Kane / Buff turnover vs Nashville
- Toby's turnover/tackle penalty vs Avs
- Bogo turnover vs Stars
- Schiefele losing coverage on Koivu vs Wild
- Little giveaway to create shorthanded G vs Wild

That's 6 games. Critical points lost in last few minutes.

Trouba is an absolute stud, but the grand larceny was stealing Ellerby for nothing.
I don't know if his recent play is for real, but if he keeps it up we may have found that elusive LH second-pairing partner for Bogo…or Trouba.

What is pretty evident imo is we did indeed find a player. Or get one for free.

No question he can play and add to the bottom end , and maybe he can do more. He could be the typical highly drafted dman that takes time to reach his potential.

Did you not see that Chicago game? Ellerby is NOWHERE near ready for 2nd pairing minutes.

******* this feels like an exact replica of the Clitsome situation. I liked the claim as a 3rd pairing type of guy. He came in played great and everyone is dying for the 2nd pairing role which I advise against. Look how Clitsome has worked at over 2 million on the 2nd pairing. Disaster. Ellerby is real solid where he is, sheltered on the 3rd pairing. Very effective there. He is not a 2nd pairing guy right now. Give him some time MAYBE (unlike Clitsome who will never be), but doubtful.

Yet again Holden I agree with you. We have no less than FOUR guys for the 3rd pairing LHD spot: Clitsome, Stuart, Pardy, and Ellerby.

We need a true shutdown 2nd pairing guy. Big physical and mean. Pair him with Bogosian so he can move the puck.

Yeah, he had a poor game vs Chicago, but I don't judge anyone on one game. You watched him much more with LA than I ever have, but sometimes a change of scenery and expectations will do wonders for a kid who struggled early, but has all the tools. I have no preconceived ideas and am judging him purely on what I see now. Perhaps that allows me to be less partial, but perhaps he'll regress over time. We shall see.

From what I have seen since he arrived--admittedly a small sample size-- Ellerby is a class above Clitsome, Stuart or Pardy.

I'm not sure if Ellerby is above Clitsome as a player overall from a hockey perspective, but being a low event player makes Ellerby easier to appreciate as a fan haha
How do your analyses rate Clitsome overall then? I know he has rated highly in zone-exit metrics, but he does seem a bit high-risk, high-reward to me.

I agree with you , plus he has that size that makes you pay notice.

As for struggling in the one game , as you said ....one game . If they want to see if he can handle a #4 role then I would think they would want to see him with a #3 to pair with over a somewhat extended time frame.

High risk, high reward sounds about right.
Very high events.
Proven point producer at ES too (even prior to Jets) relative to icetime.

Still I rather someone better than both on the second pair... hurry up Morrissey

A faster, more skilled, tougher version of Lucic on a line with Bossy and Trots....you would have liked him Holden.

Honestly? I actually thought Ellerby played really well in that game. He got victimized twice by a not bad player: JT. I remember thinking he played really well despite that.

I have really been happy with him. I don't think it's the same as the Clitsome situation but agree we need to see more of him before we give him a 5 year deal.

I thought the Jets played a good game overall. Remember, there's an NHL opponent that was desperate, have some offensive talent, and we should expect them to press down 2 in the third.

I thought it was one of the few games when all four lines had something going. I really liked the Scheifele line again (Scheifele had an impressive 200 ft game again). Wheeler was skating well and making better plays. I like Seto again - he is having an impact on the ice. Clitsome created some drama again, and was joined by Enstrom who had a couple of uncharacteristically shaky plays. Trouba was impressive again - hard to believe he's 19 and just coming back from a prolonged injury stint. I liked Ellerby again - nothing fancy, good range.

I still think that the PK is too passive, and is starting to look too easy to play against.

A good game for LLW. They haven't been strong enough recently.
