Make a bold prediction about the Leafs

Fixed it for you.;)
Leafs will be out of playoff contention by Christmas. Dubas & Keefe fired after Christmas. Shanahan gone at end of season. In 5 years no power forwards or big strong Dmen drafted. Utter failure by this management.

Already gritty Isles added Chara. Soft Leafs minus Bogo most likely passed. Time will tell which GM made the right decision on Chara.
I wonder if we were ever in the running for him.

It's probably his final season. Why would he choose to come here; instead of staying in the area where his family are settled, and playing again for his first team, which also gives him a better chance at another Cup?

Chara is simply a liability now and people should be relieved he isn’t a Leaf.

Probably correct if he had come here.

On the Islanders, with Trotz coaching and the whole team playing a solid defensive style, any such issues will likely be minimized.

It’s not really about style though. It’s more that at this point Chara is one of the slowest players in the league. He cannot keep up anymore and he gets completely spun out by even somewhat quick players. I’m not sure how you mitigate that without taking another player out of position

Limited 5v5 minutes, with a mobile partner, and PK time. He's at least effective on the PK. I think it's both interesting, and telling, that neither Boston, nor Washington wanted him back. I mean Washington made the decision to sign Matt Irwin instead.

Teams let good players go all the time. We have to believe that as Leafs fans, otherwise the dozen or so castoffs we sign every offseason won't amount to anything.

I know we have trouble with that, but the Islanders seem to cope quite well, and I don't think he's as bad as you say.

Bit if they can't, Trotz won't play him.

i guess, but at some point most every game chara is going to have to defend someone 1-on-1. I just don’t see it going well. His slowness is bad enough at top speed, if someone catches him flat footed it will be ugly

He definitely is that bad, but agree to disagree I suppose. I also don’t think the islanders cope quite well, or that we don’t, as neither of us have a defender who is so ineffective of a skater

Chara's usefulness comes in during the playoffs, when they don't seem to call things against him, when they should.

Other than the fact that the hard GAA stat shows the weak value of the soft stats, what is your point?

I am guessing he was available to a few select teams since it took this long for him to sign. Leafs probably not interested as they must have a plan in place to replace Bogo internally. It better work or it won't be long before Dubas is looking for a suitable Bogo replacement.

theres precisely zero reason to think he doesn’t re-sign here

zero? As in impossible?

I guess if you use hope and hope along as the basis for your analysis.

I apologize. I didn’t think that the title of the thread only make a bold prediction that everyone agrees with.
