AM won’t make it back before the season which leads to Ritchie-JT-Marner forming a line, While Willie and AF continues their playoff magic with Kase. While the Leafs is a top team in the league with top 3 PP% without AM.
AM starts the season sometime in late Oct but since the team is doing extremely well and Dubas wants to maximize cap savings, AM started the season with the Marlies via conditional status.
Leafs continues to do well without AM and by the time AM comes back, he ends up playing with Spezza and Bunting as a shelter 3rd line and on PP2(since PP1 is top of the league in PP at this point).
AM tear up the league as 3C and PP2 while the other two lines continue with their strong play and PP1 is just unstoppable. While the Leafs enjoy a 18 games winning streak.
By TDL, Dubas trades away Soup and even Engvall for futures and somehow got Phil to increase depth scoring.
Everything looking good in the first round against the Bruins, as Bergeron can only play against JT, Willie or AM line, while the other two are just taking advantage of it. Until Game 4 while leading 4-1 in the 3rd period with 11 minutes left, Bruins stormed back to tie the game and head to OT. Keefe in a very uncharacteristic move, put JT-AM-Willie to start the 2nd OT and right away they score and send the Bruins packing.
In the 2nd round facing a tired TB team, Leafs manage to beat them in 6. Facing against Lou and Islanders, Ritchie, Simmonds and Gabriel prove to be the diff while Willie gets his first fight with Martin.
In the Cup finals, they face off against Toews and the Hawks in an epic 7 games series. In the 7th game, Spezza summons his vintage power by scoring a deflection off his behind to win it for the Leafs.
Then Reilly signs with Seattle as a UFA during the off season.
