Win Stanley cup

Mitch Marner has an MVP type season

....and LeaFlanders are just counting it as one more reason to hate him, the narrative now being that he's just a big show-off:nod::naughty:

and that he knocked one of Willies front teeth out in Willie's first ever fight, as was mentioned earlier in this thread...Mitch also KO's Gallagher in that fight, the young man after all grew up on the mean streets of the "6"

Will fail to make the playoffs and Dubas will not trade Rielly at the TDL a move along with his other inept handling will cost him his Job. Rielly’s walk and set in motion a domino effect that takes us back to a full rebuild.

We don’t make the playoffs for another 4/5 years and after landing another generational C and a few other great players we rush the rebuild, overpay our kids after accomplishing nothing and do it all over again.

The new GM will talk Tavares out of his NMC giving them a little more cap flexibility.

I’ll change it too a lot of cap flexibility .
If the season is not going anywhere goes Rielly may negotiate in season and take a shot at Dubas Dollars and eat up 10 million of it, netting only 6 million in cap space.

I'm going against the grain here (and believe in this prediction):

- the Leafs get over the hump; they don't win the Cup, but make a strong showing to the ECF
- Rielly unfortunately walks, but the void is filled by Sandin/Liljegren who take the next step

Window of contention as a top 6 team continues for at least 3-5 years

I do think this might be the year they make it past the 2nd round. Hopefully getting beaten by a rival team like the Habs lit some fire under these guys.

Step away from the ledge.

By all accounts the TML knew they were signing JT. The minute they knew that was happening the brass should have brought in Matthews, Marner and Nylander and said we have X number of dollars for the 3 of you and this is where we see your bridge or long term contracts. If we don’t sign everybody together this has no chance of success. You want the biggest free agent and so do we but it comes at a cost. Your success and the franchise will ensure your next contract will be an even bigger payday. I get that nobody was expecting a worldwide pandemic but do we always need to be on the razors edge regarding cap?

Second, the team had the opportunity to dump players like Bozak, JVR, etc for big assets and picks yet the dumb management kept all these expiring contracts just to say we made the playoffs and give the kids some success. Absolutely stupid move. We would have like gotten 2x1st and maybe more.

Add to these boneheaded by pushing in each year and with seconds and last years first for Foligno and we now have a fairly bare farm system.

If they don’t make the ECF it’s another bust year IMO, second if they let another player in Rielly walk for nothing again they have failed. Personally I would rather they trade Rielly at the TDL, take a step back and then regroup in the offseason with the assets they get.

Every good team is up against the cap.

1. That was Lou.
2. Good teams don't trade away impending UFA.

The farm system is very strong.

It's a bust if they don't make the ECF - yet you want to trade away the team's good players so that they don't get there.
