You are really stuck on 2012. You know times change. You know 3 of the 4 conference finalists are currently out of the playoffs this year.

Do you think Dustin Brown, Mike Richards, Anze Kopitar, Willie Mitchell, Justin Williams, Matt Greene are the same players they were two years ago? Penner and Scuderi are gone and haven't replaced what they did in that run.

How long will you cling to 2012?

I completely agree. I'm not singling anyone out, but it seems like after all those years of losing, winning a cup has made some people think some of those players can do no wrong. Hockey is a business, and if you are not getting the job done, you need to be demoted (in ice time), sat, or traded.

Let's start with the guy in your username. He's on pace for 60-something points. Unacceptable for a player like him who has awesome hands, tons of skill, great size, and good vision.

Still has double the goals and plays elite level defense. How else other than anchor would you describe one of your highest paid players who is on pace for 12 goals and on the ice for more goals-against than any other forward.

Once again, no matter how bad Kopitar slumps offensively he is still a fantastic all around player, if Mike Richards isn't scoring he isn't contributing much else. It would be the same thing if Carter stopped scoring, these guys are terrible defensively so they can't be counted on for that.

Kopitar is fine , but he is not as good as we make him out to be offensively

He will never be a consistant 80-90 point player, unless someone like Zykov turns into the next Corey Perry.

Not trading away the likes of Anze Kopitar and Mike Richards for Taylor Hall and hoping a winger kid leads us back to the promised land, especially when he is forced to now play under a 180 foot system.

So you're pretty much thinking we should get more of the same and not change it up? We have so many **** players it's not funny. We have only one players who's skilled in shooting and he has the most goals.

This team needs a change in mentality and getting players that are different helps. You think Carter is a full 200 player, he's never played that way, and you know what it wasn't hard for him to be more defensively responsible as a king.

What do you propose then?

Trimming the fat and this...

I think you think I disgree with you. I don't. The fact is, Kopitar needs to dominate games offensively against teams like Calgary, Edmonton, and hell, even tonight he could have; it was another 2-1 loss. He never does. We all know his defense is among the best, if not the best, in the entire league. He's become so docile it's pathetic.

Game in Boston: in the dying seconds of the game with the puck on his stick, he passes to Mitchell.
Game in Columbus: leads the puck up the ice along the boards, stops at the blue line, and dumps it in to cycle. Pathetic.

If I were to go that route I'd trade Richards over Stoll simply because he's on the books for 6 more years after this one at 5.75M, and he's already showing symptoms of Scott Gomez-itus. Stoll's got another year on his contract, I can live with that. Slide Carter to the 2C spot and put Toffoli in as a top6 RW.

Him making that much money is Also another reason he won't be traded. No on is going to take that cap hit to help out the Kings ....

Its a fantasy folks drop it.

Not trying to single you out. Just don't agree. EDM has around 15M in cap space. The cap hit wouldn't be a problem, and they would love his vet leadership in helping the young team develop.

So according to Bob McKenzie, the Oilers will be shopping Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner, and Herby's favorite player, Ryan Smyth. There's a discussion about it over on the trade board, http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1589511

Watch Lombardi bring Smyth back.

Not sure a trade is going to fix it, but DL going after guys like Gagner/Hemsky that may have issues on defense would be a great way to F with Sutter.

I agree that Lombardi and Sutter need to adjust and change, but I disagree that we should be pinning it directly on players like Richards. The players you have on your **** list are kind of ridiculous. At the start of the year, you wanted us to consider moving Kopitar, now it is Richards, in the future it will probably be Doughty or Quick when they inevitably fall into a slump and so on.

As you are hinting at, this is not exactly a singular problem and getting rid of core players to fulfill knee jerk fanciful needs and performing video game trades isn't going to solve problems, only create more. People act like Lombardi is sitting on his hands, but I bet you he has been working the phones harder than ever. The cap is down, the deals are tight, and teams just aren't running around looking to deal their franchise player Taylor Hall or take our garbage players for picks and waive their own.

While Richards and Brown are having awful years, I don't think they are solely to blame for our struggles. I would give them another season to see if they can bounce back before I traded them away.

Our system seems to be based on perimeter play, dump and chase and shooting from the boards. Nobody is driving the net or going to the dirty areas to clean up the garbage. Is this because nobody is skilled enough to do it? Or is it some confidence issue? You can see how mentally soft the Kings have gotten on the PP. They are so afraid to make a creative play that they just cycle the puck until it's poked away. Then when they do try to shoot and it doesn't go in the net, they spend the next fifty seconds trying to regain entry. This then leads them to not wanting to take a chance on the PP and so the endless cycle continues.

Our passing has been **** too. So many bobbled passes or pucks into skates. The few seconds it takes to recover from that is a big reason why we aren't scoring.

We have too many unskilled grinders in our system and our defense got a lot worse after losing Scuds. Greene being hurt all the time, Voynov playing like ****, WM looking his age, RR being hot and cold and Muzzin trying to one-up Stoll in the brain fart olympics isn't helping either.

Only winning one game in the month of January so far is inexcusable.

Just cause they have cap space doesn't mean anything .....they would make the Kings take salary back , Edm also has 50 players contracted ....so it would be a push at best...

Its the same garbage you people keep spouting about Clifford having value around the league....

NO NHL TEAM IS GOING TO DO THE KINGS A FAVOR

How can Richards be having such an awful year if he is on pace to have his most productive season yet as a King? It speaks more about the team than it does Mike Richards. Comparing Richards to Gomez is ludicrous at this point.

He needs to score goals , you can't have your second line center on pace for 11 goals over 82 games.

Same with Kopitar.....he needs to be a consistent 35 goal scorer...he has a 40 goal wrister he refuses to use.

I'm not ready to give up on Richards yet. I'll give him a run in the playoffs if we make it to prove himself. Remember, he was leading the Kings in scoring before he got hurt. I remeber we were singing his praises the first 20 games of the season when he was silently contributing. Then all of the sudden Sutter changes up the lines and he has had a hard time adjusting. Brown, maybe it's just a down year for him. Maybe that knee is a problem cuz I remember he had explosive speed. Now, he gets caught every single time. Frattin on the other hand hasn't shown me much. He fights the puck every times he receives it and never manages to protect it. I won't mind seeing this guy go. Very disappointing.

Cough cough....Getzlaf #1 center scored 11 goals all year.

He was on their SCF team and would be welcomed back just for the memories of making the finals. It wouldn't be doing the Kings a favor.

I never said trade Kopitar even at the beginning of the season, I said give him one more season. Think you're getting too attached to players. This team can be upgraded.

Because THIS is the Mike Richards you are speaking of this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ws-5435ZFw

The one that coasts around the rink at 8 mph and doesn't hit anyone and has NO fire, has NO passion, and doesn't care is the one that we now have. Watch the youtube clip and this is not anywhere far away from the player today, let alone close. Today, he's a soft, perimeter player that is almost useless.

Look at him skate at 1:36. That is a 5th gear. He doesn't even have a 4th gear today.

Kopitar/Richards need to start putting the puck in the net consistantly ,.

The Kings roster can't afford those two to be 15 to 20 goal scorers ......

That is Lombardi's fault.
