The players definitely need a kick in the ass, but even more importantly they need to get their offensive system overhauled. Our reliance on lucky bounces is just asinine at this point. Everyone knows what we are going to do, we have the most predictable offense in the league and none of our shots are quick and spontaneous, they are always fed out to the point or the sides/half-boards and stickhandled for a second and then fired into traffic hoping to get a bounce.
We need more speed, one-timers, and general offensive creativity. We can point fingers at Payne, but Sutter is really the guy that needs to be convinced that we should re-solidify our lines and re-evaluate our offensive philosophy and how we should go about getting goals. In 2012, we weren't relying on bounces, we were making plays with speed and getting shots off quick. Now we are slow, trying to make quick passes, but mostly mishandling and holding onto the puck for too long, and just being plain bad and ineffective.
The players need a kick in the ass and to break out the smelling salts, but our coaches also need a bop on the head and a refresher in modern offensive tactics. They are going to need to rip a page out of Chicago's book on how to score goals because this whole feed it to the point, get a big body to the net, and fire into traffic praying for a bounce method is just too random and unreliable. We didn't win a cup on garbage goals. It can help you make the playoffs, but when you are making a run for it, you need to be making plays and getting good shot off quickly.
