Games like this are why you don’t plan a parade for being in “fIrSt PlAcE”

This team cannot consistently beat the better teams in the league. That’s just a fact at this point. They looked like an AHL team out there vs the Knights. It’s almost like all those “Rangers are proving their detractors wrong” articles” were incredibly premature, which they were. If anything that game last night continued to prove their detractors right.

Penguins three points back with 2 games in hand and way easier schedule.

next stop: wildcard.

Get Lundvist the f*** back in the lineup already! He's one of our top prospects and needs to be playing!!!
This makes all the sense in the world, but the guy who got left on the side of the road refuses to put in the best lineup.

Kakko hasn’t had a goal since Phoenix and he’s still playing on the wrong line.

I missed most of the third and first and saw the second. If felt like they were on an odd man rush every time down the ice. Or at least like 2 on 2 where the gained the blueline with speed. It looked they never played this defensive system before, which is weird because it's been coming along nicely. Their defensive system has looked good for a while now. Including against the same team earlier in the season. I hope this was just a stinker.
It wasn't their D system necessarily. They got murdered on transition when they got beat to pucks on dump ins and got destroyed all night long on board play.

No one was throwing a parade for being in first. We all know that the Metro is going to be a bloodbath jockeying for seeding down the stretch. One road loss (without 2 of our 3 best players) to the best team in the west in which our 3rd pair and 4th line were the biggest reasons why, isnt the disaster people are making it out to be. Just be better on Saturday.

The Rangers are 22-4-3 against teams that arent Calgary/Colorado/Vegas. Good thing we wont play them again until June

You're looking at this loss in a vacuum. "One road loss." That's disingenuous. The fact is this is another team who out played them soundly and they had no answer for. Shesterkin nor Panarin being out was the reason they lost that game.

And yes, people were running around here screaming first place for days.

The Rangers won't be playing in June because the vast majority of those teams in the "22" column don't play in the playoffs.

Its the first game theyve been significantly outplayed since the Avs game a month ago. Vegas is also a really damn good team.

The 5v5 play is a concern no question, but my take on it is that with more experience for the kids and a few deadline additions for depth, it will improve. Until that time, they will be able to lean on their stars and goaltending to rack up points. The team also just went 3-2- in a stretch against Florida/Tampa/Edmonton/Vegas, where they were outplayed in 1 of the games. Any team would be happy with that stretch.

It's the difference between a well-oiled machine, and one who is still breaking in, I guess. Vegas' positioning was superb. They always seemed to be in the right places to make plays. On the other hand, we definitely play one of out patented "Let me try and make this extremely obvious pass through two players in every zone" type of game. So many blind drop passes to no one. Lots of playing the puck into trouble areas (i.e. playing the puck to someone in double coverage). Vegas looked like a top-tier team for sure.

RE: Stone's goal - I love futbol, but man... that rule really needs a change. An intentional play with anything other than a stick should be deemed no goal.

Yup. It was all Hajek's fault.

Vegas is a great team who played well and exposed some of the flaws in the NYR game.

That said tonight is a rare example where you can also make the argument that Hajek almost single-handedly lost this game. Awful turnover on the 2nd goal when all 4 other players were cycling well in the Vegas zone. Then just abused like McDavid was coming down on him on the 3rd goal. Couldn’t step up on Howden and make a play on the 4th goal (though not a great switch here by Jones in Hajek's defense). Terrible pinch and play on the puck in deep on the 5th goal. Drury needs to add a vet LD at the deadline. If he has to play in the POs we could see a repeat of the Sad Stu meme.

Brett f***ing Howden. Lmao.

It was obvious that the refs would let the goal stand. They might as well get rid of the rule altogether because what they would disallow never happens.

Yeah, Hughes is the better player, but he also wasn’t an option for us. The consensus #2 was Kakko.
This is a completely fair point to make and I agree.

But something to consider. Kakko played his best maybe ever in a Rangers sweater when he was playing with Panarin and Strome. Why is he not back on that line? Zib and Kreider only want to play with each other, they almost never look to set up Kakko. Kakko is still not being deployed properly. Hughes gets 1st PP minutes on the regular - one of his points last night was an assist on the PP. When Panarin is back Kakko is going right back to 2nd PP unit.

I'm waiting for one of the Euro players to try and pull a bicycle kick goal. NHL: "The goal stands, as it was a distinct flipping motion rather than a distinct kicking motion."

Vegas is a counter-attack team and we gave them the puck in terrible spots for us that lead to 10 rush chances, 5 odd man rushes, 4 goals, and quite frankly, almost all of it was from the 4th line and Jones-Hajek that couldn't understand the brief of don't turn the puck over, have numbers back, and take the man out or stay with your man.
My cousin was at the game and said the rangers looked like they were playing in slow motion on every goal. Way too many odd man rushes. If they looked slow in person.... what a bad game.
