Who does Baertschi remind you of? (playing style)

I see some Patrick Sharp with a mix of Logan Couture.

It's funny how many different player comparisons we've heard when it comes to Baertschi. In Portland it was Mini-Hossa. TSN had Loui Eriksson as a comparable. I've heard some of the Calgary beat writers use the Patrick Sharp comparison.

Personally, I still see a lot of Patrick Kane in him (I'd argue that Kane definitely has more pure offensive skill while Baertschi is grittier and plays the defensive game a bit better). Not the biggest guys, but both great vision and hands which they use to dart in and out of spaces to create opportunities.

For the most part it was just simply a supreme power forward play. He defends Kassians hold off with a swinging motion and kicks his leg forward to regain his balance. His knee does nudge the back of Kassians causing his edge to lift but its the farthest thing from an intentional slew foot imo. If anything Kassian gets a penalty here for his desperate latching technique. Great play by Bartschi. He played strong and Kassian played weak.

Wow this thread has lost control was it a slew foot, no, was it a dive, no.

Back on topic Sven is easily the best player on the Heat and I wish he could have played in the AHL last year.

Why? I think dominating the whl is good for his development there, he gains strength and mass and confidence and not get himself injured.

It has more to do with the fact that I think Troy Ward could have done a lot to help his defensive side of the game (not that it really matters as much now that he started in the ahl this year) but I feel that if he had started in the ahl last year he would be more well rounded for this year.

I believe it was done because Baertschi is a smaller guy (not tiny, but slightly undersized height-wise), and he one-armed Kassian (who I believe is about 6'3 215). It's seen as a positive sign for people who might've had concerns about potential physical issues in the pro leagues for Baertschi.

I didn't see anything that proves Baertchi is strong, looked like he stuck his arm out, maybe clipped the back of Kassian's knee and Kassian lost his balance.

Again, I don't see why this is a GIF lol and am kind of confused...

Best one I have heard thrown around is Hossa. He has the offensive skill to be a PPG player or better and strong defensive play. I cant wait to see what he can do full time in the NHL.

Anyone wondering why a gif was posted after it creates pages and pages of discussion in a thread... It was clearly interesting enough to stir conversation...

6"3 215lbs Kassian grabs Bartschi with one arm. 5"11 185 lbs Bartschi, also with one arm, pushes Kassian away, causing Kassian to lose balance and fall. You can see Kassian was on his way down before knees were clipped.

Dive! Trip!

It's not like they are on ice or something. Completely unfeasible to just slip!

So far he's doing just fine in 12/13.

Just watched him tonight vs the Marlies. Some thoughts:

- Amazing ability to find loose pucks/win battles/strip opponents of puck. This stood out most to me. It doesn't matter that he's not an absolute bull (although he definitely is decently physical) because he's just so crafty that he'll often come up with the puck
- Solid in own end. The first point combined with sound positioning and a good compete level.
- Great playmaker. He could've had a few assists tonight if teammates finished their great opportunities created by Sven. Not only off the rush, but also down low in close quarters he often creates chances through clever puck movement

All in all, he kind of makes me want to be a Flames fan! :P

I enjoyed watching him tonight too. Very intelligent player. 4G - 5A in 8 AHL games. Not bad.

I think Sven's hot streak is more about ice time and opportunity than anything else. When he was up with the Flames early in the season, he was playing third- and fourth-line minutes and getting no PP time because we had a gazillion wingers on the roster; now that most of those guys have been traded or injured, he's getting a lot more chances to show what he can do.

Good to see. Im usually not to lazy to look these things up. But if Baertschi plays every game for the rest of the season, will he still be considered an NHL rookie next season?

He'll still be Calder eligible.

Another 2 points tonight. 8 points in his last 6 games.

What's the number of games required to not he a rookie anymore? He has 19 gp with two to go on the season
