I think his struggles might be adjusting to the smaller ice surface and new teammates. KK didn't seem to have problems playing overseas and short tourney's ie. WJC. He should be more dominant by mid-season and still a very young player.

New country.
New language.
New culture.
New city.
New organization.
New league.
New team.
New teammates.
New social life.
Etc.

A lot of things to adjust to for any 18 year old.

Based on what? Better domestic player production perhaps compensates somewhat, but salaries are higher in the DEL and thus acquisitions are generally better.

Yeah, maybe it compensates "somewhat". I'm somewhat interested in when we'll get to see German DELers beat the likes of Ovechkin, Malkin, Kuznetsov, Kucherov, Chabot, Stone, Ekman-Larsson, Klingberg, Pettersson, Landeskog, Kane, Eichel, Gaudreau and Suter on their way to a WHC gold. I will somewhat enjoy watching that. Somewhat.

It's true that there aren't many North American prospects coming to Germany, the imports are established guys that figured out they're not going to make the NHL and don't want life in the bus leagues. It means that the average age is around 27 while in Liiga it's something like 24, but this is well within prime anyway (no older than the NHL) and actually the really old guys are more common in Liiga even if these are mostly domestic players. Last season Éric Perrin was one of the better Liiga players age 43 though.

Regarding national team play, the German players without imports were good enough for Olympic silver so it's not like they're all plugs either.
True. I mean DEL is a great league nowadays, and overall level of German players is getting better and better, which is great for relatively small sport like hockey. As the biggest nation in Europe, Germany still have a ton of underlying potential and guys like Seider and Stützle are good example of how German hockey and DEL is able to produce more and more great talent.

Liiga has changed a lot during past couple of years, and now there is real NHL potential players in pretty much every single team. Also the fact that these borderline NHL players like Honka, Lammikko, Puljujärvi etc. chose to play in Liiga, because they think it's the best place to develop. And after every season nowadays, there are going like atleast handful of players to NA, mostly to AHL but also always few to NHL. e

Regarding player development in Germany it's still so that there are a few excellent organizations like exactly Adler Mannheim, they have a budget of around 16 million euros which is high by European standards and cooperation with the soccer team TSG Hoffenheim which gives access to additional resources. For example Seider benefited greatly of their fitness program. Red Bull also has their strong German-Austrian hockey program which some Finnish prospects are starting to use as a stepping stone to North America as well (Sampo Ranta went 3rd round in 2018). But at the same time most DEL sides can't offer comparable paths so prospects either have to choose the few top programs or go abroad like several have to Sweden. In Liiga at least a half of the teams have good programs and the problem is rather related to keeping the better prospects, unsurprisingly the teams with the highest budgets are managing this best.

He's had another great game, a few small mistakes like a whiff or 2 on the puck, but other than that he's really coming along nicely. If only he would get promoted soon, it's time.

Hopefully when Zib gets back he gets to play either with Zib or Panarin+ Strome. Him and Buchnevich have earned the top 2 RW spots. Push Fast back down where he belongs.

Two primary assists and I thought a good game from Kakko. His play trailed off a little in the second half of the game, but apparently he was quite sick last week, so he might still not be at 100%. And this was one of his better games as a Ranger.

The spin-o-rama fakeout to put it right on Panarin's tape for the 2nd goal is some insane hockey IQ.

:sarcasm:

His second assist was a whiff on the puck. That was a good mistake to make.
Well, perhaps it'd have been a goal instead. The initial move was good and also, him drawing 3 defenders to him is what made Panarin get open anyway.

Don’t look now, Kakko with another multi point game tonight and now has 7 points in his last 6 games (4G / 3A) :)

From shift 1 he looked strong.
Created multiple quality scoring chance.

He's starting to play his own game more and be less polite.

If only he had a better duo than Howden/Lemieux finishing them off.

Until Zibanejad comes back, he should swap places with Fast. Fast has no business playing on that line. The real decisions come when Zibanejad returns. Quinn said he’s not going to move Strome out of the middle. The easiest thing to do would then to put Chytil in the spot Fast is occupying right now, and move Zibanejad to the center spot that Chytil is playing so well.

Chytil could also move down a line to the third, but he definitely doesn’t deserve that. Our top six is suddenly becoming very crowded and there are a lot of options, but at least until Zibanejad returns, Kakko should be on Panarin’s line.

Kakko took the other young guy, Malenstyn, to school there. You're gonna overcommit like that, he made him pay big time, easily snapped that across the seam.
