Some people seem to just wait in anticipation for these young players to fail, so they can rip them apart on online forums.

Same thing year after year, prospect after prospect. Get a life.
Yes, but how was your comment anything constructive?

Acknowledging the ridiculousness is constructive and might even get someone to think about their actions. Small chance, but maybe.

Obviously you making this a multi-comment argument will be very fruitful.

This Kaapo Kakko thread doesn't seem laser oriented at Jack, does it? What do you think? (Do you? Sorry, Finnish question.)

He is obviously trolling you guys, just ignore it.

I do however, find it strange how a lot of Finnish fans spent months critiquing Jack Hughes's play for the most absurd reasons and now are crying that they are getting a taste of their own medicine.

This cycle of hatred and stupidity started in the Matthews/ Laine debate and then spiraled into what we have today. Some Finnish fans need to take a look in the mirror or at their fellow countrymen for the mess we have today.

I agree.

You're just as bad as I am.

No need to be sarcastic. I was barely sardonic.

It's not that bad. They need more '80s pop, is all. All hope is not lost.

Trolling used to be a fine form of art, my Dear Sir.

Months? Hardly. His play? Never. It's always been elite.

Medicine? Not just Kakko but Kotkaniemi failing.? Hintz and Heiskanen not making top roster?

This cycle of hatred and stupidity started in the mid Medieval era before there was a USA or a Canada and we could stop it. Unless I misunderstood and you're not a late Tre Kronor fan, in which case I think again.

Kakko is fine...of course his metrics look bad

1. The Rangers metrics as a team are horrendous
2. His most common linemate is Brett Howden
3. He's not being spoon-fed sheltered minutes

From watching him this year, he plays well when he's constantly skating. His acceleration needs work.

Also his shot and he holds the puck way to long.
He should use teammates more.

So many people look like they are responding angrily to no one. I was apparently very on point with my ignore selections

The way the arrogant hype train took off before the draft? Yea I'm not shocked that people are here to gloat but let's face it, people would gloat even if certain posters hadn't been entirely insufferable during this time last year.

It was just one of our favorite posters

So, Rangers fans, is the kid improving? I know the goals and assists aren't there yet but is he at least figuring out the NHL?

Ridiculous to keep him up all season. Should be back in Finland, but checking out Hartford with more ice time wouldn't do harm at this point either.

He hasn't hurt the team or himself by being with the big club.

Hes shown some positive signs recently with Chytil.

Confidence and strength will come and so will the rest of his game

How often does a forward hurt the team unless it’s some boxer who belongs on an AHL third line?

We could’ve been using a better player there this season. It might’ve been worth an extra win or two.

He's getting better.

Back in Finland? No. In Hartford? Maybe, but I think sending him down at this point would be a poor message. Especially since he has been getting better lately.

I remember when people tought he would be better than Laine....:help:
I still think he will be. Players develope at different rates.

What's poor about it? His ice time has fallen below 12 minutes most nights, although the team is winning he's not contributing. In Hartford he could be given a much bigger role and that should be good for him right now.

He looks so bland playing in the NHL. Players such as Di Giuseppe and McKegg, when they are even in the lineup, have more of an impact on a game to game basis.

What he showed last year in Liiga and the World Championships was so much better than what he's shown this year in the NHL. He'll occasionally showcase some nice puck handling, puck protection and functional skating when he has the puck on his stick with some space in the offensive zone, but aside from that, you don't ever notice him, unless it's a bad defensive play. He's gotten a little better defensively. He's still probably the worst defensive forward on the team, but he's not catastrophically bad defensively anymore, which he was earlier this season. If Kakko was ten years older and playing like he did, he'd be playing eight minutes per game with no PP time, and he'd have been scratched at least 20 times this season and maybe waived months ago.

I don't know how Kakko will go from this to being an impact player, but it's going to need to happen. We can't afford to waste the second pick in the draft. Excuses won't be good enough. The guy was picked 2nd OA, and with that comes big expectations. He should've been better this season than he's been, but he's probably not going to improve that much with less than two months to go in the season. The excuses about the NA ice, new culture, new league, being weak, mediocre skating, mediocre conditioning can't be used anymore. We need the kid to start being a core member of the rebuild, so he's going to need to have a great summer of training. It's shocking to think the Rangers are in contention to make the playoffs, and Kakko has been a complete non-factor.

The jury is still out, but it seem the entire draft class is really struggling in the NHL.

As an Oiler fan, we were sold on Yakupov being a perennial 50 goal scorer.
Habs thought they had an elite #1C in Galchenyuk.

It wasn't until 3-4 years later we all conceded the top end of the draft was kind of terrible, and Yakupov's NHL career was on life support.
2012 NHL Entry Draft Picks at hockeydb.com

BTW, Yakupov had 17 goals and 31 points in 48 games his rookie year, which is WAY higher output than Hughes, Kakko and Dach.

Sometimes the best thing for development, is to develop their confidence and swagger.
Letting them run up the score in the AHL playing on the #1PP, on the top line gives confidence.

What we did to Yakupov was put him on the 3rd line, and try to get him to produce with Eric Belanger as his Center.
Then scream at him he's a 1st Overall pick, and he should be able to carry a line.
And when he failed at that, we benched him and absolutely decimated his confidence.

Di Guseppe's been pretty good since getting called up but Kakko certainly has not looked worse then Mckegg
