Excellent pick by Dallas. I really wanted him to drop to 24 but mere wishful thinking.

Big fan of Guryanov.

How's he doing? More talk about Kaprisov than Gurianov.

Averaging 11:13 of ice time on a god awful team. People claiming lack of production from a 18y.o. should look up other guys on the team. Their leading scorer has 15 points to show. The league leader right now is at 39 for comparison. The team can't score and no matter who Guryanov would play with, he wouldn't have skilled linemates. And he is on the 4th line for now.

Guryanov has an abysmal shooting% of 4,4 which is troubling for a guy with his shot. But I think that's just growing pains and adaptation to the big league.

He is 3rd among forwards in hits on the team though.

I think he's going to be fine down the road and has potential to be an Ovechkin-like hitter. Let's see how he fares at the WJC among his peers and on a skilled line.

The comparizon to Kaprizov is a little bit unfair, while Karpizov is playing on the first line and thus 17:30 per game with proper linemates. The only line on that team that works though. Not taking anything away from Kaprizov who is having a great season.

Haven't seen him this year but I wouldn't be too worried about his lack of production. Development does not happen in a straight line. Kuznetsov for example only had 8 points in 35 games in his first KHL season and then the year afterwards he put up 32 points. Tarasenko had 10 points in 38 games in his first year before putting up 24 points in 42 games the year after. KHL is a difficult league to play in as a prospect and most guys just get 4th line minutes the first couple of years. I'd expect Guryanov to get better as time passes on. With a strong WJC maybe he gets more playing time in the spring, or he gets a bigger role next season. Who knows? The kid is clearly talented and shouldn't be ruled out because of low points totals in a very tough league.

For an 18-year old his production is pretty typical. Not everybody can be Kaprizov.

My concern isn't so much over his points as it is his finish. If you've been following Lada's highlights on a regular basis you'll notice he has made 3 great end to end rushes where he splits the D, then when he gets to the goal he can't score. Flubbed a break away during the summer camp as well. If your coined as a sniper, you'd think this wouldn't be the problem.

I am not concerned about Guryanov, in as far as I never thought he was particularly special.

Some people don't realize that the KHL isn't like the NHL. Its not structured where everything is fair for all teams. The best KHL teams just take the best players from lesser teams and they become so much better than the other teams that its really hard to judge a player on a lesser team compared to a player on a better team.

Guryanov could have an extra ten points if he was playing on the fourth line for SKA or CSKA than if he was playing on the fourth line for Lada Tolgiatta. I'm not saying that he definitely would because I don't believe I've even watched him play yet this season, unless he played against Severstal one of the games that I've watched them this season, but there's a good chance that he'd have a lot more points on a better team.

He is not a guy you judge based on stats, it's not easy to score points in the KHL especially with 4th line minutes.

Probably not. Generally the best places for youngsters to develop and rack up points is on bad teams. If Guryanov played for SKA or CSKA, he likely wouldn't be in the lineup on a regular basis.

Similarly, you think a youngster like Kaprizov would have his current 19 points if he played for, say, Avangard? No chance.

Shooting at 4.4% is a little bit tough luck. It's unsustainable. So if he keeps playing and shooting, he will score some points. Even on the 4th line. Kaprizov is just lucky to play on Novokuznetsk, which is the poorest team of the league. And one of the best as to developing prospects. And having Kazakov and Stoa as linemates helps as well. Lada doesn't have a player as good as Kazakov even on its 1st line.

I understand the point you are making. It'd be harder to get into the lineup for a better team, but I've watched many games this season of a team not much better than Lada Tolgiatti since the Rangers best prospect plays for Severstal, and some of these players that play big minutes on these bad KHL teams are not very good hockey players. They don't help these talented young Russian prospects, they take points away from them since they don't play with the same talent level.

SKA is definitely not playing the way they are meant to be this year. I think if Guryanov was on that team, he'd be on the third or maybe even up top with Kovalchuk. SKA could use a player like Guryanov :D

Not because he didn't deserve to be there.

He was facing a suspension and Bragin used him as an example of discipline.

This to me seems like flawed logic for such a tournament, but I dont know how close Gurianov was to the cut anyways as an 18 year old. Hopefully he learns from this and maybe lights a fire under him. I wish he wasnt playing for Lada.

I wanted him to fall to us at 25 in the draft, but was nabbed up by Dallas early on - how has he been playing? I haven't heard anything about him since the draft.
