LW/RW Denis Gurianov (2015, 12th, DAL)

I don't know anymore, NA is certainly able to sustain/develop our d-man: I already gave up on Marcenko, when he played for CSKA and now he is on NT playing in the WC.
I have certainly not seen Nesterov being able to crack an NHL team, but there he is.
Tryamkin was starting to fall off in the KHL, I am sure Vancouver will make him a better player.

I do think - Guryanov is leaving a bit early, a year (or better two ) of playing in the KHL would have prepared him better. Best of luck to him though - Nichushkin may be a good mentor to him as well.

Certainly you saw Nestorov's potential with the u18 and wjc teams, I certainly saw a bright future, Tryamkin also showed potential. I think the names you mentioned all showed potential in Russia, the AHL allowed them to get used to the NA style of play, same for Voynov. Also Nicushkin can be alot of things but at the moment, mentor he is not.

Don't understand all the drama surrounding Guryanov. I mean, one thing is when a 16/17 year old kid is moving to CHL or when a young player is successfully developing in KHL with plenty of TOI, but in Guryanov's situation change of scenery might be not bad at all.

Any news on how he's doing? Anyone here see him in a game? This kid is such a mystery still.

Edit: and the mystery remains I guess.

He looked pretty good in Traverse City for the Stars and is now on the training Camp roster and played in both pre-season games so far. How he looked i don't know since the games aren't televised . Even with the number of injuries the Stars have he's going to play in the AHL next year unless something very wierd happens .

Really hoping he has a good year. Was a big fan of him in his draft year and had him ranked at #12, just where the Stars picked him. Gonna be interesting to see how he adapts to NA.

How did he do in preseason/training camp?

Is this guy still alive? Literally the least talked about top 15 draft pick EVER.

In the game I saw in London he didn't look out of place playing against Florida's "A" squad.

In regards to there not being much chatter about him, look at the team that drafted him. Probably the least populated team subforum on this site. Combine that with him getting virtually no icetime in Russia last year, there hasn't been much cause to talk about him.

Also missed the WJC due to suspension.

47 games, 10:05 min per game. This is not much but I wouldn't call it no icetime.

Being given roughly the same number of minutes as an enforcer is not a positive thing. And it's a lot less than he would have gotten if his team wasn't purposely punishing him for saying he wanted to play in NA.

Where do you get your stuff, his team wasnt punishing him. He didn't earn his ice time from the games I saw. He played on a weak squad where he should have easily been able to move up in the line up but failed. Abols is a fair coach (dad of Abols who was NHL drafted and left KHL for WHL lolol) I would side with him if there was a coach/player debacle. Several other junior aged players managed to earn time on better KHL clubs.

Lada was punishing him? I love these conspiracy theories.:joker: Guryanov simply wasnt very good, although he was still deemed an asset for his offence for the 4th line. Not to mention he totally
screwed himself out of a spot at WJC by being an idiot.

Lada will give you a shot. Filatov is proof of that. As mentioned, Guryanov didn't earn his ice time.

So what's the deal with Guryanov lately? 3 assists in 11 games?

Bragin recently said Guyranov isn't helping his WJC chances by rotting away on the 4th line in the AHL. And it doesn't get any better for him with a lot of under-the-radar guys playing exceptionally well at the current subway series, and that's not even accounting for the CHLers who have seriously upped their games too (Korostelev, Sokolov, etc.).

It's too early to call him a 1st round bust, but damn son.

Agree. Even if he was getting limited ice with Lada (like last year), at least Guryanov would get to participate in all the junior 4 nations, subway series, MHL playoffs, etc.
But that's almost beyond the point now. Regardless of where he'd played/playing, Guryanov hasn't made an inch of progress since being drafted.

Looks like he's starting to find his groove. Scored his first AHL goal tonight and has now 4 points in last 4 games .

Sadly there aren't stats to see how many minutes he played/plays.

prospect-stats estimates his 5v5 ice-time at 11.43 minutes/game through 11 games. That's probably low 2nd line to high 3rd line ice time, depending how much PP time he gets.

I hope he doesn't bust

Nichuskin and him that would be very bad for the stars

Nichushkin looks great in Russia and is only 21. He had just to play more KHL hockey before coming to NHL, like his best buddy Buchnevich did. His body wasn't ready which led to all those problems.

Marchenko is not living up to his potential with CSKA. Zaytsev on the ther hand...

Nesterov was never projected to be anything super special. NHL regular is his ceiling.

Tryamikn was falling off in the KHL? Did I miss something?

Guryanov will miss his 2nd WJC due to his own stupid mistakes. At this point I see it as karma.

I remember him looking really good every time he suited up for Russia , still have faith he can make a good career.

2-nd line players usually get at least 15 minutes, 11:43 TOI is more of a bottom-six minutes, i'd say that's low 3-rd to high 4-th line ice-time.
