LW Quentin Musty - Sudbury Wolves, OHL (2023, 26th, SJS)

Does anyone know what's behind the recent trend of American prospects being extremely demanding and forcing trades?

Musty, McGroarty, Gauthier... it's starting to become a trend. Could we see it get to a point where it starts to hurt their draft rankings?

Slightly different as McGroarty/Gauthier wanted out of there respective NHL teams, Musty is at the OHL level. Wanting to be closer to home/on a contender.

Honestly it also makes sense for Sudbury to trade him....... When the right deal becomes available.

They aren't challenging for a Championship, so time to restock and build for 2 years from now. They missed there window.

Yeah like the only other offensive threat in rhe entire team is a huge guy picked in the 6th round last draft...

Nathan Villeneuve also a good player, but he's got to quit fighting and getting the boot from games.

Honestly, if you could put Villeneuves heart/effort level into Mustys body, you'd have an all time player.

Though last night his body language was once again piss poor. Old habits creeping in. Blowing the zone, poor effort etc.

It almost sounds like he doesn't want to be there...

Not sure what this has to do with simple effort level and/or body language.

Would also make more sense if it was an isolated (or new) issue, but it's been going on for years now.

Disappointing, cause the player is insanely talented.

It makes perfect sense if he's going through the motions until he is traded. Not saying, he's right doing so but it's not a shock that he isn't fully engaged.

Colby Barlow requested a trade at the OHL level too, don't lump in Musty with Gauthier and McGroarty.

Everybody loses in an injury. No WJC, trade value tanked for Sudbury, and most of all Musty himself can't play and can't develop as well physically either. At least it's one that he should clearly be able to recover from.

On the Sharks boards I think the consensus is emerging that Musty needs to respond really well to all this adversity. Show up next year ready for camp and ready to compete, or as Jux said, "fade away." Definitely not the development path you draw up for your prospects... Not over yet but he's on hard mode now.

What consensus? I don't believe that idiocy nor should anyone else. Sure no one wants to be injured, but to act as if it's curtains because a 19 year old got injured and wanted off Sudbury means he's got to prove something is bordering on insane.

Musty has something to prove because he looked bad in Sharks camp and is known to have a poor attitude and possibly poor fitness. All the talent in the world, but yes, he does have to prove that he can play in the NHL. Obviously.

I hope Musty isn't that guy but there is always a guy in a loaded system that doesn't pan out due to injuries and loss of development time.

I really hope that Musty wants to be a part of the Celebrini/Smith-bromance as much as I want him to be and to do so, some of Mack’s competitive fire has to rub off on him, doesn’t it? That’s the dream

I believe he does. He showed chemistry with Smith during the summer and was disappointed that he didn't make the opening night roster. It was his goal this past summer. He went to Toronto to train with Crosby's guy. That desire is in the kid, he wants to improve and he knows there are aspects to his game that he needs to improve on.

Fun fact, he spent that time training with Porter Martone.

Who shit in your Cheerios?

Disagree all you like but calling people idiots and insane because they disagree with you is a little intense and definitely unnecessary.

Yes, he's only 19, but he'll be 20 by camp and he won't have played much this year. He has all the skill in the world but has shown many times a poor attitude that doesn't look like one that will help him develop - unsportsmanlike penalties and junior style hockey is the issue, not the injury. If he has a bad camp, absolutely he should start to be discounted next year. Discounted doesn't mean erased, but there will be no question his trajectory will be less exciting and he'll have to prove he can play pro hockey well in the AHL.

Legitimately, there are a disproportionate number of posters on the Sharks board (you are not one) who are manic and there is a permeating element of fatalistic group think. I used to find the main boards more toxic, but that has flipped IMO.

Musty has some red flags, but I think they are being overblown by many.
