Is there a chance that he lost motivation to WHC now? I mean he knows he basically is a leaf or a jet. If he wants to be a jet, does he want to show anymore? What is the most logical place for him, where he should want more, leafs or jets? I'm too tired to figure that out now. :D

Too bad Laine won't go first overall, but the great thing is that Lou and Babcock won't get a chance to ruin his career by keeping him at minors at all costs. I don't care for Edmonton, but would have been nice to see Laine play with McDavid, but at least he gets a chance to play in Winnipeg from the start.

where do people come up with this crap?

Their #1 centre in Nazeem Kadri. It's a no-brainer they pick Matthews.

It will be a dedication that seals the fact that Leafs aren't ever going to win a cup again.

I'm scratching my head and thinking are they really that stupid.

go tell that to every scout that has Matthews as the consensus #1. I'm sure they'll listen to you... I'm positive

Oh, but I have watched Laine games next to Leafs scouts. They were drooling.

Those guys had Laine before Matthews. Don't know if the guys who actually dedicate who will be drafted have the same list.

Nevertheless, it will the kiss of death to Leafs organization if they choose Matthews.

I don't want anyone saying I am comparing him to Mario Lemieux, as I am not. But how he gets behind Defence's and how he finds the open space on his off wing reminds me of the way Mario used to find those soft spots on the ice. I used Brett Hull as an example earlier in the thread. Has a way of finding the open soft spot on the ice where he is unchecked. Atleast for this innate skill, it seems Laine has this too. We shall see if he can carry this to the NHL one day. Where checking is tighter than ever. But he sure looks like a special player in the making.

Yea, I see what you mean, in that the goal from that 2 on 1 oppoturnity with Kuusela, he uses the break pedal when the defensive player watches kuusela, and opens the passing lane. Defender thinks he is on the passing lane but Laine regonizes that he has no very close back check and he can actually slow down to find the passing lane.

Alright so, if I was ever hoping to have Laine as the first Finnish number one pick yesterday I'm not so sure anymore. The Leaf fans are drooling for Matthews so I'm hoping they'll grap him, look back in a few years and wonder who they missed out. Winnipeg on the other hand already has a soft spot in the hearts of lots of the Finns. What would be the better than having Laine jumping into the wagon and pick off where Selänne left off and continue that legacy?

Also when you look at the Jets roster, they look way better than the Leafs and the whole top nine is steady in the long run.

Wouldn't mind a one bit if Laine didn't get picked first. He is the BPA but I prefer to cheer the Jets rather than becoming a Leaf fan.
The irony being that I hope the heck that Matthews can stay on the tale of Laine in the WHC, but I just can't see that. Matthews hasn't played against that kind of competition before. The stage will be higher for Laine as well, but we've seen how the kid adapts when the stakes go high.

As a Jets fan, I am super excited at the idea of drafting Laine, but it's not fair to him to compare him to Selanne. No one can ever fill those shoes - he was one of the best players to ever have played the game.

I also love the thought of Laine and Ehlers together, regardless of who their centre is (Scheifele, Little, Dano, Petan, etc)

I think the leafs will draft Matthews. They need a potential franchise center, which they have lacked for a while. They should go for it.

Oh for F*** sakes! Please Toronto draft Laine, I don't want him anywhere near the Central! Like seriously!

The thought is great but Selanne was truly amazing. Dominated in 2 eras of hockey, pre-lockout, post-lockout rule changes. Also dominated extremely LATE in his career and had amazing longevity to boot. Probably one of the more underrated greats of our generation.

If he had been on a Canadian team later in his career and/or played when social media started buzzing more, he'd be 10X more popular.

Now it's official that he is in the WHC roster.

Leijonat.fi site went down few moment after they publsih the roster so still haven't seen the final roster. Some one update it to Finland topic.

Here's hoping we see Laine - Barkov - Jokinen lineup in the WHC. If and when everything clicks with them, oh boy. :amazed:

I'm excited for Winnipeg also. If Laine is passed over at #1. I have been pretty vocal here on how well you guys have drafted and added talent since Hillier came aboard.

To have a winner like Laine join Ehlers, Connor, Scheifele is just super exciting for the Jets. This kid just has an aura to him and he may be just the catalyst to turn the Jets into winners very soon.

I hope the Leafs pass on him, he seems like a mix of Ovechkin and Nash. It really is fitting he goes to Winnipeg, I'm expecting a huge rookie season from him, honestly he might already have a top-5 shot in the NHL. Matthews will be fantastic, no doubt, but Laine is such a treat to watch.

Oh my god you are almost insufferable. Among the professional scouts there is almost a consensus that Matthews is the right pick for #1. The people who actually get paid to follow hockey prospects and evaluate them.

I'm done talking with you. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

There is no way Leafs will skip a chance on getting franchise center. I don't think WHC is going to help Laine, no matter how good he plays.

It will be interesting to see Laine with Jets since it's the same team that drafted Selanne back in the day.

I guess it depends how Matthews does as well, but if Laine is a contributing and integral member of the Finnish team and they win gold, at some point you have to give it to him. Not many players win literally everything they can win in a single year.

He probably wants to make history and be 1st overall pick of Finland. I get the impression that he is determined and ambitious like that. So if he doesn't have preference over one or the other team he will just play his best in WHC and that's what we all want :).

The destroyer of divisions has arrived :) or has he.

I still got a feeling he plays way better than Matthews in next month's games in WHC and this Tuesday's practise match vs USA and Toronto will end up picking Laine and if Leafs want a center they will trade one from somewhere.
