What's most important is that Tappara won today 2-1 and leads the series 3-2.

On Tuesday is their first opportunity to win the cup.

The only reason I hope Tapparas wins is because I want to see Laine in WHC. And because I don't like Hifk.

Wouldn't it be horrible if Tappara loses finals again at the 7th game, nobody wishes that besides HIFK fans. It's about time. 2nd champion for Laine this spring via MVP.

Just look at the damage Tarasenko does with his shot, Laine can be 6'4 version of Tarasenko, that could be beautiful to watch.

Laine's shot is nothing more than Ovie has. The puck protection though, will be interesting to see if he will improve it at this pace, it will be generational, right on time with Jagr retiring.

The article is a small analysis on Laine's shot. Regarding scoring chances, the zone is divided to red and green areas and from the red areas there's like 97% block/save rate, yet Patrik Laine keeps on scoring from those low probability areas.

Could you please summarize for those of us that don't understand Finnish?

To summarize:

- his defensive play has taken huge leaps during the season
- he's been great in the playoffs but have had surprisingly much time and space
- despite Liiga being a fairly physical league, Laine hasn't had to deal with a lot of hitting during the season

About playing in the NHL

- he has to figure out how to work around having a lot less time and space
- he has to be prepared for the physical play
- he has a chance to be better than Kurri

I of course agree with all of this and a lot of this stuff is quite obvious. But there's one thing i'd like to say once again.

People keep saying Liiga is close to NHL stylewise, but i always think that's not very true. There's A LOT less time and space in the NHL due to better players and smaller rink, players are much stronger and you're going to get abused more in the NHL. In Liiga If you have the skill you will be able to roam free around the offensive zone - and that doesn't happen that much in the NHL no matter how skilled you are.

Our prospects are always a step behind in physical development compared to NA prospects, combine this with the huge difference between the leagues AND the fact that Granlund and Barkov said they were a bit surprised how tough the NHL is (despite being high draft picks so you'd think they get all the knowledge you can possibly get) there is a very good chance Laine isn't going to be top 6 ready next year in the NHL. I mean, Laine doesn't have the speed to avoid physical contact just yet, so he's going to have to use his frame a lot more. What happens when a 18 yr old kid who is long ways from hitting his physical peak gets pushed around by NHL veterans ? Remains to be seen. I mean i remember how Barkov of all players got tossed around at times during his 1st year. And Barkov is no doubt the most physically NHL ready prospect as we've ever had.

Im honestly a bit afraid he'll get run over and caught with his head down trying to stickhandle, that just doesn't happen a lot in Liiga and to me it's not a coincidence both Barkov and Granlund had injury issues in their first seasons.

Just my thoughts.

Ovie's shot is just as generational as Jagr's puck protection though

M3ntalpr0 translated and summarized it pretty well.

Also Ismo Lehkonen (yes the dad of Artturi, known coach and hockey analyst) compared Laine to Ovechkin and underlined how much Ovechkin is getting hit and harrassed all the time and Laine will have the same fate. He said it's hard not to get frustrated over that and dealing with that game after game when you are opponent team's focus all the time and he also used Pavelski as an example and said that he is harassed the same way as Ovechkin.

So the panthers are out, lets pair barkov with Laine? That could be insane.

I hope we see this in WHC:

Laine-Barkov-Mikael Granlund
Rantanen-Jokinen-Lehkonen
Pulkkinen-Markus Granlund-Aho
Komarov-Koskiranta-Hartikainen

I'd swap Aho and Mikael Granlund. More chemistry and more balanced lines (Granlund is better two-way player).

I disagree. As good as Aho is offensively, Aho wouldn't play PP here. This line up got enough firepower to put 8 other forwards into the PP units and not put Aho there. We need Aho as PK guy. We lack those a little bit. Aho and Granlund may not be far apart as 2 way players nowadays but I'd trust Aho more as a PK guy.

Anyways should discuss this in the WHC team Finland thread which is here:

Why would you put Pulkkinen on the left wing?

Tappara's coach Tapola should utilize Laine the same way on PP as Ahokas utilized Pulju in U18. Let Laine play the entire PP or at least 1:30 of it and the other 4 players can be changed. Now it seems like Laine always gets only 1minute of a 2min PP.

Why would you put Pulkkinen on the left wing?

Laine and him both shooting from the right messed up my head I guess :). What ever. Swap him and Aho then.

I might get flamed for this, but I see a bigger and more physically engaging version of alex semin.
Both are insanely talented, mostly perimeter type players with monster releases/shots.

I'd swap Aho and Mikael Granlund. More chemistry and more balanced lines (Granlund is better two-way player).

Don't know about that, Granlund and Barkov were pretty amazing together in the last Olympics, albeit Barkov got injured very early on.

Think you're confjusing Laine with Pulju if you think he reminds you of Kovalchuk..

Pulju actually does look like Kovalchuk out there, Laine has a far more cerebral style.
