Good idea, i might go to the Toronto boards, to see what you and others wrote before and 1 game in to the season. Maybe i should start a debate there? Down-play Matthews and talk about how good Laine is, would you like that? Or would you get... annoyed?

Maurice has a plethora of decisions to make, soon. Little, Armia, Perreault, Matthias and Myers coming back from injury - and guys like Lowry, Petan, Dano, and Copp playing so well.
Whatever happens, get Laine back with Ehlers and Chief. That line can be deadly.
Sounds fair to me, I don't have a problem with that all. And no I don't think you're a hater or irrational in any way, it's just that you have a smaller sample size than I do.
I'm assuming I'm a little ahead in watching games played by Laine (watched maybe 60 or so last year), so I understand that other people need time to get to the same point. Can't expect them to know or to have seen what I have, so I can't expect them to be as convinced either. That would be foolish and unfair.

Those are good problems to have, but it sucks watching a prospect wither on the vine knowing he could be good if he got a shot too
I like that post with all his goal gifs, very nice summary of his goals. I don't get all the talk about Matthews in a Laine thread, there's no reason to try and demean one player to elevate another, both are good players. Just keep this on topic, I see this thread as being a Laine update thread for those around the league who don't watch Jet games. It shouldn't be a pissing contest between fan bases (TOR vs WPG), especially when 28 other teams would kill to have either player on their roster.
Go ahead. I'm definitely among the very few who have been able to come even close to correct predictions for Laine's ascension, and even I have fallen short in my projections. Most people fell even shorter in theirs.

Don't pretend like you weren't thinking "GOAT!" after Matthews 4 goal game
Also I don't know how anyone can claim Laine is lucky in any of his 12 goals this season when they compare it to that 4 goal night. The puck luck that night was insane for Matthews. Give him credit but every bounce went his way that night. Contrast that to the goals Laine has scored and there is no comparison which are more are likely products to skill rather than plain simple luck.

On the other hand, Laine scores goals from places and situations that most do not, so it goes both ways. Lets just enjoy watching them, not argue whether who benefits from who etc.
I don't think digging up scoresheets is the right way in this case, Scheif certainly does a lot of good things on the ice that don't end up in his point totals.

This sums it up for me.
And he has done everything in that schedule so far. Every time I project it's something "down the line" for him, he does it tomorrow.
However, one can expect people not to pretend they are sure, and claim stuff that is not true when they haven´t even watched the player enough.
I also assume you´re more than a "little" ahead too.

I think the discussion of Laine's pace underlying numbers and it's sustainability is a fair topic for discussion in a Laine thread. It's a legitimate point that his three main responses-
Genuine belief that he will transcend the upper echelon of performance in the game
Acceptance of statistical likelihood, but counter that his shot rate will likely rise (I'm in this camp, just not sure where the pendulum will settle, likely higher than I thought going into the season)
Childish ignorance, mudslinging, crying for this thread to be a safe space with any negativity banished

Oh, definitely. I had fun time cross-referencing the score-listing to the goal gifs, and though the goals show a lot of personal talent by Laine, Scheif has a lot to do with the fact that the play is going on there in dangerous places in front of the other guys' goal.
