Just thinking out loud about comparisons to Hog.

He is tenacious, very quick agile skater with lightning quick hands. A real edge to his game. Shorter height wise, but stocky.

Does he remind you guys more of a Marchand, or more so Gallagher? Or yet another?

Not saying he will be even a sure fire NHLer yet, but just curious of who this players style reminds you of.

It's Montén though, having higher hockey IQ than him is a pretty minor feat.
Yeah he must have some very low hockey IQ, being picked to be the head coach of Swedens world junior team is a surefire indication of that. You can tell especially since his team has won 2 games and lost none yet so very low hockey IQ.

Hmmm. Good question. If I recall Gallagher was more physical as a Vancouver Giant so while Hoglander has some of that I’d say not to the same extent as Gallagher.

I think Arvidsson is pretty good comparison

Was going to reply with this. I've been saying this since I first saw Hoglander's clips.

Arvidsson with more swagger.

definitely has that buzz-saw Arvidsson like quality. Not sure if he can ever reach that motor-level.

I see Marchand with less bite and edge. smooth , silky and high- iq.

Don't think he'll be much of a scorer at the NHL level. I hope he makes it though, incredibly unpredictable player with some of the quickest hands I've seen.

A better Jannik Hansen 20G 40-50 pts with the ability to pull off plays which are usually reserved for the best.

NOTE: This is my opinion of his ceiling, since Arvidsson is a small, skilled, tenacious, and very smart player. I think Hoglander will need to improve his skating.

What's nice with this comparison is Arvidsson developed in the SEL so he's a pretty good marker for Hoglander's stat watching.

Arvidsson

To answer the question above about him coming over ... I'd have no problem having him stay in Sweden until he dominates that league, but considering factors like cost benefit, and getting him adjusted to the NHL, it wouldn't bother me or surprise me to see him earlier.

If he isn't scoring, I think the same things that he'd be lacking to score would affect his defensive game as well. So if he isn't scoring, I can't see him making it in any sort of meaningful way.

Why are all smaller forward compared to Marchand, Gallagher, Domi when they aren’t the elite level point producers to get them compared to Gaudreau, Marner, Kane?

I’m not even criticizing this player and every fan base does this, but surely they can’t all be similar to those players. Has this guy or any of these players compared to Marchand ever licked another player during the game? There are many other contributing smaller forwards in the NHL that aren’t Brad Marchand. How about Zuccarello, Atkinson, Gourde, Johnsson, Bratt, Oshie, Guentzel, Sheary, Calvert?

This kid is a complete wild card. He has all the skill in the world, and is a hardworking likeable guy. I am curious to see how his game translates over to the NHL.

Hoglander plays an edgy, chippy game combined with skill and speed, which is why he being compared to Marchand.
For instance, Hoglander got like a 5* game suspension for elbowing a dude this year (5* games is a decent chunk of the SHL season).
He has a way of bringing attention to himself when he is on the ice. He has an agitator's gravity.
