Happy camper!
But he's said to be one of the premier "power forwards" in recent years... Perry isn't a true power forward imo
He is far more finesse than power forward. He doesn't throw a lot of hits. Not that he's scared of it, he's just more of a cerebral player. When he gets the puck on his stick, look out.
Just curious, where did it say he was a Power Forward?
So what does this kid have to do to bump himself over Reinhart and Ekblad? In my opinion he is definitely the number one player in the draft, but on most major scouting lists he's still in that 3-5 range. He's been lighting it up and even did so without Laughton.
So what can he do? Is this a case of scouts falling in love with a head to head battle for the first pick? Watching him it's easy to see he is at the very least on Reinhart and Ekblad's level, if not above. Seriously I have no idea why these two are consistently ranked above him, and I've seen a lot of all three of these guys.
He's been fantastic. I'm just as puzzled as you Kulemon. There's no way he drops out of the top 5, but he should be in contention for top 3
Do you think the Panthers are more apt to pick defense or forward in the draft? They, the Islanders, Flames, and Oilers are all on my radar as a Sabres fan...

Yeah it's weird though since the scouts I've talked to love MDC. A couple even agree with me in saying that he's the number one guy in the draft. But in all the major scouting lists you see, he's never cracking into the top two or hopping over Reinhart or Ekblad. It's pretty strange.

Right now intangibles are the go to thing in the NHL. Executives see teams win with multiple two-way centers in the playoffs the past 4 years and now they have to have it. "He does the small things that help you win" "He wins face-offs" "Incredibly smart player that sees the ice well" etc. they're all buzz words with Hockey players right now. Of course it helps that Reinhart projects to be a 70-80 point player. The same thing that has happened in the past with size and toughness being the "it" thing to draft. There's a lot of projecting going on with these kids and a lot of scouts will take into account where they see them in 10 years while ranking them. Scouts see Reinhart and say "He could be your Jonathan Toews in 5 years if you draft him". Even if some prospects right now are as good as Reinhart or slightly better people will still say "Reinhart is the guy who will win you a face-off in game 7 and lift Crosby's stick on a back check, not Dal Colle."
I think it will be closer towards the draft but generally early season hype pays off for prospects whether it should or not. Late season hype will often get guys inside the top 10 or even 5 like it probably will for Ehlers this year but it almost never propels a guy into #1.
he's a natural center right?
He played great last night, but for a player who is 6'2" he is pretty damn soft. Surprised how soft he was to be honest.
Maybe I have WHL bias, but I still prefer Draisaitl over him.
Jeff Carter
well it depends on where the panthers are picking. if they are selecting #2 or later and have a shot at ekblad I'm sure they'd select him. I'm sure reinhart would be 1st on our list because he could play rw for us, but if its between ekblad and dal colle i think we'd go with ekblad. i wonder though who we'd have at #4 between draisaitl and bennett.
i don't expect us to be in the bottom 2 or to win the lottery so I'm hoping we can get that 3rd pick, i loveeee dal colle! ekblads an absolute stud too tho, id be ecstatic with anyone in that top-3.
