Great player. Not a Leafs fan at all but they’d be stupid to trade him. He’s gonna be a great pro. Trade Robertson if you must, definitely not Knies. I think at some point during his ELC he will be a top six player in Toronto, and when you are as top heavy as they are with contracts you gotta value that to the highest.

So there’s a chance he plays a few games with Leafs this season?
If his season finishes before the end of the NHL regular season I'd be shocked if he didnt see playing time with the Leafs. Leafs have a big hole on the left side so i'm sure they'd like to see what he can bring before the playoffs.

Cant wait for him to come over once his season is done.
I assume he will wanna sign asap and burn a year off his ELC like most high end NCAA guys do?

I'm real high on this guy and keep thinking he is going to excel at the NHL level right away. I absolutely love his NHL potential and think TO is a good spot for him. I just really hope he isn't utilized in a trade for TO at the deadline for a big acquisition

100% chance. They did this last year with Abruzzeze and gave him a cup of coffee. They will want Knies to show he is an NHler and at least give us a grinder style in the bottom 6, ideally he fits into the top 6 right away but probably unrealistic.

I assumed this meant he was a finalist. He’s actually in a nomination group which at this point has 80 players in it. Great distinction still that shouldn’t be downplayed, but still a ways away from what I imagined here, which was being a finalist for the award.

The kid’s a stud. The 2nd round of the 2021 draft is already looking stacked with Knies, Stankoven, Zellweger, Raty and Moser. I think the season being mostly lost to Covid caused a lot of first round talent to fall to the 2nd.

And that was supposed to be one of the worst draft classes in however .long. It's turning out to be the best or one of the best of the decade. Easily.

Knies reminds me a bit of Ovi... not suggesting he'll be as good as Ovi, but damn.... Leafs finally have a winger who isn't just there to feed Matthew and Tavares. Knies has gotta eat.

Am I missing something about this guy? His production does not scream anything close to an impact player - PPG and third on his line in production in his D+2. I get that he’s big and plays a physical game - but his offensive game feels very lacking for a guy who gets this much attention.

Could be one of those things where an organization hypes up their guy to the point where everyone believes it so that they can build up his value for a trade?

His goal scoring is up and tops on the team but his assists are down. I think some of that is probably due to the style the line plays. Cooley is a pretty puck dominant centre and his production didn't benefit from playing with him at the WJC either. Knies is definitely in the Hyman role, getting to the net and generally touching the puck less than his linemates who are better skaters and distributors.

But the Leafs already have a bunch of guys who are good at dominating the puck. Knies is potentially the perfect complement to them in the future if things go well. There are so few good power forwards in the NHL and they generally take a bit longer to fully develop.

I feel like he gets pretty over rated on the forums. He’s the leafs top prospect, and he has a skill set that a lot of teams look to add, he potentially compliments the leafs line up right now. A lot of his value/hype is what he can potentially do and help with leafs.

Points are just half the story with prospects. It's the type of game he plays, it's hard to find in the NHL. Pair that up with the leafs who lack that type of player, are weak at LW, and would benefit from a regular nhler on an elc makes him a very valuable asset for the leafs personally.

He is the 3rd best prospect/player on his line and his numbers have barely improved from last season lol.......He has 0% chance of winning the Hobey Baker as things stand today.

I do really like him as a prospect but he is being grossly over hyped by Leaf fans due to their cupboards being bare.

Don't really see how he's being overrated. No one's expecting him to step into the NHL and immediately be a top line player.

But people do expect him to become a hard player to play against with skill in the top 6 during his elc. I think most people expect a 30-30 type of player throughout his career. If you wanna call that overrated then so be it.

I can find a lot more prospects with way more hype behind them on this site.

Good propsect bht getting way overrated. Some leaf fans have him on the untouchable list or only in return for a current high end nhler . Good prospect but PPG in D+2 even given his unique style and size is not spectacular

Youre the one making hyperbole statements like Leaf fans saying Knies is equal to Bedard.

Teams rarely trade their best prospect players, let alone for rentals, so of course Leaf fans wouldnt want to dump him for a player that would see minimal time with the Leafs. Hes going to be a cheap, cost controlled player with a chance to play in the top 6. Exactly what the leafs need.

They aren't bare and I haven't seen many Leaf fans over rating him but that is a fun thing to say that you don't have to actually back up! It is funny you would think if Leaf fans were "over rating" him his thread might be past 15 total pages on here. Like you might have just created a narrative or something.

Apparently not wanting to trade a teams top prospect for a rental is overrating them nowadays.
