One of things our media does. They want clicks and know how to get them. A lot of our fans follow what the media says like sheep.not sure why the media keeps pressuring Dubas to include him in a trade.
Step 1: Introduce player and hype him up to the fanbase
Step 2: Get clicks from the hype
Step 3: Once the hype is through the roof, turn things around and create drama/negativity regarding said player
Step 4: Gain clicks form this drama/negativity, especially since the fanbase will believe it
The amount of fans who think Knies won't sign (and most of them are led to believe the CHL rules apply to him meaning he will be an FA at the of the year) due to essentially him not saying in a recent interview "I cannot wait to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs, of Ontario, Canada, at 3:16 p.m. on April 8, 2023" is astounding.
The media knows how to drum up hype but also random negativity/fear and the fans get delusional from it.
Other examples:
Player playing a little to well for the Leafs? No problem. Let's say he won't be able to be signed down the road due to this play. Leaf fans are then in shambles.
Leafs need a specific type of player/trait to add to their lineup? Let's bring up a name the fans have never heard of and we think would make a good fit and hype them up (Nick Jensen, Alex Iaffalo, Sam Lafferty, Braeden Schneider pre-draft etc, etc, etc....). Once they are so hyped, when the Leafs fail to get said player, there will be an uproar.
Create hype then attach controversy and gain clicks. I hate our media and I hate how our fans latch on like velcro.
