He shouldn't be a prospect every fanbase knows about? Not sure I agree. At least for fans who consider themselves to be serious hockey fans. Anyone who even barely follows NCAA hockey would know who he is. He was one of the best players in college last season. To me Knies is a guy who would be top 5 in almost every pool in the league, but he is not a guy you want as your number 1 or 2 prospect.
How many times have you heard the names Rashevsky, Gritsyuk, Cates, Samuelsson, Mazur, Maccelli, etc.

There are countless prospects that are in a similar or better tier than Knies that are barely mentioned. The only reason everyone knows Knies is because so many Leafs fans pump his tires. Again he's a good prospect, but he's not a blue-chip where everyone should know his name.

you think all those names are similar or better prospects than Knies? That's certainly a take.

It was the Leafs organization trying to sign Knies for the playoffs after one year of college, not Leafs fans. Leafs fans didn't put him on the Olympic team either, in the group with Sanderson, Beniers, Faber, Commesso as 02 kids. Good company imo.

I don’t know some of the players listed but Gritsyuk and Mazar are studs. Gritsyuk has put up very impressive numbers in the KHL ( as good or better than Kucherov and Kaprizov at same ages) KHL teams very rarely play youngsters much but his team deploys him as much as their veterans. I’m not saying he will be a Kucherov or Kaprizov talent but he has been an impressive prospect. If his name was Ricky Timmins from St.Albert , drafted by say Vancouver , he’d be talked about a lot more.

Way too much made of his WJC performance. Look at Jarventie. He completely stunk in his first WJC. Now he is in top 5 in points. Knies can do the same potentially.

Let’s also not forget entire US WJC team stunk, aside from a few players…
Knies is 2 months younger than Järventie… He has aged out of the U20 WJC.

Come on now we are going to use 2 month to make one prospect in a totally different category from another? That’s silly
Huh?

I simply responded that Knies is 2 months younger and he has aged out of the WJC - he can’t potentially do the same.

I think that Knies is on another level of prospect fwiw. He‘s way more projectable in the NHL. Jarventie? Not so much… needs some work.

I wasn’t comparing them in terms of talent

I meant 2 month apart should mean that we should somehow expect much more production from Knies

Because the Leafs live rent free in your heads in general. This prospect thread is 14 pages long for a guy drafted over a year ago to the most popular team in the NHL and he is supposedly overhyped. About half of the posts, are from people whining about random stuff. Past three pages have been filled with posts like your complaining about him being overhyped based off a summer hockey tournament.

There are mid-round picks drafted by random teams who have more active prospect threads. Many top prospects who are even moderately hyped have multiple threads, or at least double the posts compared to this one.

Really have no clue what your issue is.

More than half of the recent posts here are ones like this, from people like you (non-Leaf fans), not discussing Knies but whining about the fanbase. Others are shitting on him because of his meh showing, to a much higher rate than they are going into the threads of players like you mentioned who also had meh tournaments.

Posts like this, from people who complain about how much attention Leaf related things get, makeup a huge portion of the excessive posts on Leaf topics...it's very funny to me how oblivious some in your shoes still are to this.

Nick Suzuki had 3 assists in 5 games, too.

Both are bums...

Seriously, though this world Jr's might prove he sucks, or might not matter. World Jr's means nothing for future success.

I could give a rats ass about the Leafs - I was just replying to the person who doesn’t understand why people think Knies is overhyped. Leafs have a huge fan base and in turn it leads certain posters overhyping their own prospects and mentioning them in any prospect thread.

Again I think he’s a good prospect, but he’s just the current flavour of the month - just like Dermott, Liljegren, Sandin, Robertson were before him.

What evidence do you have to show that he is overhyped? I referenced the amount of posts/discussion in this forum. Again, not even close to being one of the most discussed prospects. And much of the existing discussion is just people like you whining about him somehow being overhyped.

Those other prospects you mentioned were not even particularly hyped either. And the hype they did garner was/is generally warranted. Robertson scored 55 goals in 46 games in his last year in junior and 16 goals in 28 games at age 19/20 in the AHL. Is that not exceptional and worthy of praise?

Liljegren was a pretty polarizing prospect for many Leafs fans until his breakout rookie season this year where he played very well. Sandin was best defenseman at the WJC and played exceptionally well in the AHL for his age. Both were first round picks.

Dermott wasn’t even hyped or ever considered a top prospect.

Again, what exactly is your point that you’re trying to make here? Are Leafs fans not supposed to discuss their top prospects at all or display any semblance of excitement?

I think everyone knows that, you just think you're some kind of genius for pointing out the obvious to the lowly Leaf fan, and simultaneously acting outraged about Leaf fans overhyping. Hell of a combination lol.

If people like you didn't bitch and moan about this kind of shit, threads like these (Leafs threads anyway) would get half the attention they get. The last few pages of this thread is a perfect example.

A whole lot of "I told you so"s after a pre-season, middle of August tournament. People are usually over the top with WJC hot takes, but some here must be out of their minds to use this particular one as a barometer.
