I don't mean to derail this in any way. But how much more of impressive season is Connor having vs Colin White? Or are they equal so far?

All 3 first rounders from the 2015 Draft are having dynamite years so far in the NCAA

but yeah it would go like this:

1) Connor
2) White
3) Boeser

I still can't believe Boston didn't grab any of these guys.

Some really astute non Jets posters on this thread that have kept it civil and its been a pleasure to read.

In regards to Connor moving to centre it is a very interesting point and I am torn. My thoughts are if the Jets contemplate that move they will take the William Nylander route and do it at the AHL level next season and not try to pull it off under RAed at Michigan. With Kane traded last season and Ladd likely on the way out this season we now have a gaping hole for a natural #1 scoring left wing and I think Connor could fill that role well at some point in the future. A big part of me doesn't want to inhibit his natural scoring talents and in the Jets system the centres are leaned on heavily to defend.

Perhaps we get Oiler lucky this draft and land Our franchise #1 centre? ;)

so he's not playing any C in Michigan?

I think he has been left wing since the start of the season. I know in most draft publications I read he was listed as C/LW so I assume he has played some centre in the past.

Played RW for the first 11 games on a line with Nieves and Selman. Been LW ever since.

It's just mind-boggling how a guy like Connor falls to #17. It looked stupid on draft day and it looks even more stupid right now. He was a clear top10 pick for me. I had him ranked #9. You could make a good argument that Sharks, Stars or Bruins should've taken this kid.

^can you imagine if Boston had taken Zboril, Barzal and Connor? holy cow!! :amazed:

Did Connor ever play C with Youngstown at the USHL level? Followed him closely last season, and he was used as a mainstay LW with the Phantoms.

And yeah, Boston would be sitting pretty with Connor, Zboril and Barzal, + the prospects they picked in the 2nd round as well. Although they aren't fans of high speed and skilled guys over there ;)

IMO Connor is more of a pure offensive forward with better offensive skills, hands, shot... White's are not bad but could use more development Connor's are better. White is a better two way player.

Yeah White projects as a solid top 6 two-way centerman. Connor projects more as a top 6 scoring winger. Two different styles of play but both equally as exciting for their teams fans.

don't forget Jack Roslovic who is leading Miamo-Ohio in scoring as a freshman...not a ton of talent around him either.

IMO they should have gone Connor- Chabot- White.

Three players who are top 10 caliber.

Plus a winger, a center and a D. Mucho balance who also turn out to be BPA.

I'm pretty sure Zboril was considered the bpa based on his more rounded game

meh, Chabot had much higher upside and better tools.

Silky smooth skater, 6 ft 2 , great passing, amazing hands. I would have taken Chabot 10/10 over Zboril.

Man his insane scoring so far reminds me so much of Larkin last year, but his playing style from what I’ve seen (limited) is a little bit different. Wonder if he turns pro after the season. Gonna be interesting to see how his development goes, great player.

Larkin and Connors freshman seasons have been eerily similar. They are both amazing skaters and generate a lot of scoring opportunities from it. IMO Larkin is better in his own end while Connor gets the nod in the offensive zone. Both players are a treat to watch.

Thanks for a comparison. This makes me really excited for his future and makes me feel much better about losing Ladd.

You bet. If Michigan had a good goalie they would be a lock for the Frozen Four.

Connor is NHL ready, he can replace Ladds offense.

even crazier thing could be he might be the first ever American to not make his WJC team yet make the World Championship team in the same season!!!

I doubt USA Hockey has the balls to ask him to play but if Eichel did last year Connor belongs this year.

I'm not against advanced analytic s, in many ways I think they are very useful, but I don't like equivalencies (particularly ones as complex as needed for the NCAA). I don't know how many people are baseball nerds here, but I'd much rather find something much closer to PETCOA that takes essential data (such as age, scoring rate of league and QOC) to create a profile then project from there, raw equivalence numbers do not attempt to do that. For example right now Connor's raw numbers are better than Larkin and Eichel as a freshman, but the metric does not take into account these guys did it at a younger age. Or in the case of someone like Matthews trying to apply the equivalent rate from the swiss league probably drastically underrates him.

That's exactly what PCS (Prospect Cohort Success) was on it's way to accomplishing. Unfortunately the statistical model was purchased (and the two main developers hired) by the Panthers, so it won't be available to the public anymore. :(

Yeah, I'm sure that others are attempting to do it now. I'd love to see what teams actually have, I remember reading The Extra Two Percent by Jonah Keri and how far the Rays front office was than what was public knowledge was in regards to analytics was insane. The things we have are probably very far behind the teams that have invested the most in analytics.

As for Connor he had to slow down at some point, he was going insane in Big 10 play.
