LW Kyle Connor (2015, 17th, WPG) II

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Both of these things can be true...

1) Connor is a very good prospect.

2) There are reasons why he dropped in the draft. Everyone points to Boston passing over him... but every team before Boston did as well.

Would have loved the Flyers to take him but Provorov was too good to pass on and he wasn't available at 24. Winnipeg got a very good player.

Connor is 20 and has 8 goals in half a season in the AHL after 1 in 19 games in the Show

Frank Vatrano at 21 has 36 in 36 games

Connor gets 28 goals in his next 4 games he will tie Vatrano

Vatrano in limited minutes scored another 8 playing for Claude Julien who sucks the offense out of the players

Connor has good wheels and shot and I can see a solid top 9 between 15-20 when he gets another year in the A

The only "reach" befor Bostons pick was Guryanov, all the guys were ranked in top10 by some lists.

He has 19 games to reach DeBrusks 11.

Vatrano is in his D+5 (he was eligible for the 2012 draft) Connor is in his D+2 year, not exactly a meaningful comparison.

Connor is also playing for a team that doesn't score because their D can't move the puck out of their own zone. The Moose literally do not have a single capable puck mover. He is among his teams leading scorers in the time he's been there which is what you want to look at given the issue the Moose have on D.

He has 19 games to reach DeBrusks 11.

It's fair to say Connor & DeBrusk are both busts

The good news is they are both recently 20 so they have time to consider career changes

Connor has 9 in 52 games pro games so he's past that - poor kid

Vatrano's 36 in 36 came last year, which was his D+4 year. Also missed a year of hockey due to transfer issues. Still you are right that he was older by almost two years.

Why on earth would you start to compare Connor to Vatrano? Vatrano turns 23y in few weeks, turned 22y in his AHL year where as Connor turned 20y and why would you leave out his points and just go after goals?

I never liked just comparing statlines of players and saying "this where X should be at." Not only are situations different but prospects don't all follow the same development curve.

I'm not worried about Connor at all. Let's compare him to another Jets 1st rounder who was severely under-developed physically when drafted - Mark Scheifele.

Scheifele drafted 2011, at 6'2" and 175lbs / Connor drafted 2015, at 6'1 and 177lbs
Scheifele played his draft +1 in OHL ('12) / Connor played his draft +1 in NCAA ('16)
Scheifele played his draft +2 in OHL ('13) / Connor playing draft +2 in AHL ('17)

It wasn't until Scheifele's draft +3 season that he stuck in the NHL and scored 34 points in 63 games. I believe Connor can produce similarily or even better by next season.

As we all know, Scheifele filled out as expected and is now 6'3" and 207lbs and is a legitimate #1 center in his draft +6 season. The Jets have no reason to rush him and know exactly what he needs to do to become the player they want him to be. It's going to take a few more seasons, but currently he's on track.

Connor with a hat trick tonight. He's really been coming on strong over the past several weeks.

That's what you want to see late in the year. A young player show signs of being too good for the AHL. Now he just has to keep it up and he will find himself on the Jets next year.

Charlie McAvoy has 3 less points in 1 more game played than the Jets' 5th round pick Tucker Poolman who also plays in the NCAA.

That's a weak comparison. McAvoy is 4 and a half years younger than Poolman. 99% of Jets fans would trade Poolman for McAvoy in a heartbeat.

Last year I was informed that Kyle Connor is better than Tkachuk. I also heard he was better than Werenski. God I love being right

I mean, I belive Tkachuk is better right now but it's not out of the question that Connor becomes as good as Tkachuk in the NHL? They're 19 and 20, it's way too early to judge two players with immense potential. Sure, Tkachuk is more ready and already contributes. Good for him and the Flames. Very nice pick.

I expect Connor to hit 50 points next year in the NHL.

Leafs fans were also told Connor was on par with, or even better than Mitch Marner LOL

And that was wrong. Not many players have Marner's creativity. Always thought his skillset was entirely translatable. Very safe and elite prospect. He'll be an elite player for a long long time.

Connor has probably been overrated a little bit after his sublime college season, but I think he's getting a little bit underrated now that he's in the AHL instead of having a great rookie season in the NHL. His skillset, tools and mind for the game are still there. I believe Connor becomes a 60+ point NHL winger still.

You are ****in hilarious. Have you watched him play? The game before his hattie he looked incredible. Didn't score, but had 8 shots on goal and was flying around the ice. It's great when someone is fast but it's on another level if the hands go with it.

Watch him play sometime instead of stat-watching his goals (which is incredibly ridiculous). He's making the best of it with that trainwreck of a defence.
