Well time to conquer heart disease next. Be well Henke.
I have been in and out of our area heart hospital four times since Sept 2019....it is not a lot of fun and likely not going to get much better ....but it could always be worse . It's a pretty lonely spot to be when you have to go in by yourself and you know they will be invading your body ....you think about a lot of things for sure . Covid changed so many things .

Mikos...have you read or heard anything on his identical twin brother Joel in all of this ? I thought I had read that heart issues are definitely much higher in identical twins ? I'm too tired to find a Google article to support that. Anyone ?

Truck on brother. The only way to make sure it gets better is by ensuring that you keep going on. You can't get down on the negative possibilities, doing so let's an illness and let outside noise invade the mind.

Do what gets your health back in place. There's a lot of noise and fear from national media, tune that out and focus on you. Be well and be you my friend.

I'm not a medical expert, so I would be pretty unknowledgeable on the topic but hopefully Hanks in good hands. These things are usually kept private.

someone mentioned that in mainboard thread. If he tested positive or had covid, it was never made public he did.

plus my understanding is post Covid myocarditis is transient and goes away.

it’s certainly possible but it sounds like something else to me.

If I were to speculate I would put myocarditis towards the top of the list if it is indeed true that Henrik would need to sit out a year. That diagnosis carries a 6 month restriction on competitive exercise/athletics.

All other diagnosis that I can think of that would make him sit out would have been a life long restriction. That includes cardiomyopathies and channelopathies.

I wish it were under drastically different circumstances but can't say I'm not happy that he never wears another uniform. Would have loved to see him get that cup though.

Get well soon Hank, we need you back here to watch No.30 get raised to the rafters

Jesus Hank’s career has just completely nosedived so rapidly.

I was looking forward to watching him play with Ovechkin and his Swedish brethren and possibly have one last shot at a Cup but life has a way of really throwing shit your way sometimes. The right choice was made and honestly best he probably just retires. He’s 39 in a little over two months.

It will serve those that never wanted to see him in another jersey. He really needs to get the send off of a lifetime when 30 goes up to the rafters.

Simply put. This sucks.

To watch one of the most consistent players in history have such a drop off in such short time is so bizarre. I expected Hank to have a more sustained drop off but f***. His career just disappeared in what seems like a year or two.

Ok gang sorry I couldn't chime in earlier with work and some people may roll your eyes at me and say I'm making this up but this is not a new condition. Hank has been being monitored since he's a kid.

This has been known during his entire tenure with the Rangers.

I'm not connected to any insiders (other than the casual way I've known a few people who have covered the team and I never ask them about what goes on behind the scenes).

I was told by someone in the medical business who worked with the Rangers during the Renney era this information over a few beers. A casual acquaintance who I used to hang out with in my 20s. This was after Lundqvist was established but when Montoya was still here.

They said in these exact words "they may want to hold on to Montoya a little bit longer. Lundqvist looks legit but there is one thing I'm concerned about with him..."

I was asked under no circumstances to share with anyone because they could have been fired from that job.

It's been about 13-14 years now and that person is long gone from the org so......

What I theorize is the amount of stress and pressure he's put on himself and his body the last 24 months to train harder, change his diet, etc. It probably didn't help along with aging

Just bumping this because MacLellan’s comments seem to corroborate @Roo Returns ‘s insight. I for one really appreciate the insider info!

Tip of the hat to @Roo Returns for pointing out history on Lundqvist.

Thanks @bobbop and @mrhockey193195

I know it could have come off as me making something up. It was a casual convo back in 2006 and we were drinking beers but the person who told us was very adamant not to leak it or gossip. Back then they were affiliated with the org and not trying to lose their job. This individual moved out of NY years ago. Now it's known to the world.

I've had a few stories I've shared on this board throughout the years. I have no consistent inside knowledge and my interaction with the beat writers is more on a personal/casual don't get into work basis.

I did share how a bar owner told me Ted Green did not like Eric Lindros, and Del Zotto was too immature to handle New York.

That's crazy. He took us to the Stanley Cup finals with a heart condition. He won a Vezina trophy with a heart condition. That's gotta be a first. get well Henke

Hell man, he was in the top 6 of Vezina voting for 10 straight years with a heart condition

If I were his wife, even knowing the condition was ‘managed’ and 99.999% fine, I’d still be terrified every game, watching him put his body and heart to the near max stress, even seeing him normally winded after a crazy few shifts hemmed in the D zone (often) would still make me wonder if today were the day it started to go south. Best of luck on the surgery, fast recovery!

Just imagine him spending the year recovering from this, signing with the Rangers next year and Shesterkin tweaks something in warmup before game 7 and Hank comes in and wins the cup as a Ranger after all of this :(
Oh Ed, poor poor Ed. Your imagination far surpasses any 5 year old watching "The Wizard of Oz". You are an imagination warrior. ;) But, it could happen. :D

I think the Caps were figuring he'd play at least 35 games (if the NHL were doing a full season) if not more for them this year and they're pretty much stuck with Samsonov with maybe Vanecek or Copley as the backup. They may go with that or they might make a trade. Don't think there is a whole lot left as far as free agent goalies go.

Kinkaid would be looking pretty sweet to them, right about now. Lol.
And the price has just gone UP for Georgiev
