Since no one wants to say it, I guess I'm going to have to be the jerk...

If any of this was concealed from the Rangers when they bought Hank out, we should be able to roll it back and LTIR the contract instead.

With that being said, I wish Hank the best, and I hope he's treated and back to 100% ASAP.

It's worth mentioning but I'm sure if the Rangers medical staff had any inkling of this condition (knowing it could be detrimental to his health) they wouldn't have allowed him on the ice.

If he concealed it thats another story but athletes conceal injuries all of the time. Heart conditions are a little different but anything else and you would consider that player a "warrior"

Or maybe it’s COVID-related?

someone mentioned that in mainboard thread. If he tested positive or had covid, it was never made public he did.

plus my understanding is post Covid myocarditis is transient and goes away.

it’s certainly possible but it sounds like something else to me.

I mean there's no reason we would know if he tested positive or had it at some point.

And covid myocarditas seems to vary in severity. Could heal, or could be bad and cause permanent damage, but either way if you have it then you need to take it easy and let your body heal even if it's not a serious case. I think he'd probably take the season off even if it was a "mild" case

But who knows

Gut wrenching. In his video message, he seems so dejected. First and foremost, I hope that he recovers fully and does not have any negative effects on his quality of life. Secondly - if it remains his goal - I hope he's able to come back and play, with whatever team he choses. The guy deserves a cup and I'm still holding out hope that he can get it.

For selfish reasons I didn't want him to play for the Caps anyway. Hopefully this medical condition isn't something really serious. One would think with the condition he keeps himself in he would be able to rebound from whatever this is probably as well as most anyone else could.

I think the Caps were figuring he'd play at least 35 games (if the NHL were doing a full season) if not more for them this year and they're pretty much stuck with Samsonov with maybe Vanecek or Copley as the backup. They may go with that or they might make a trade. Don't think there is a whole lot left as far as free agent goalies go.

This news really f***ing hurts. I was really looking forward to cheering him on, Caps jersey and all, to hopefully see him lift the cup this year. But i'm really happy they caught the issue and he can hopefully have a healthy and long life with his family. Can't wait to see him in the front office for this team one day.

Very shocked , been playing for 20 years professionally and never a hint of any issues. Hope it’s something relatively minor and doesn’t affect him long term, even if he doesn’t play again.
Long live the King!

Absolutely not and delete this post. We will make do, it always happens.

I don’t even think this is a remote possibility. I don’t think he would’ve signed with another team, trained all summer and fall and been in DC with their team for a while, if he has any inkling he was having health issues. Nor do I think the Caps would’ve signed him. Just horrible luck all round.

Sorry to hear this news, on the business side if he retires does our buyout still count?

Henrik is one of my favorite athletes of all time. This news is a drag. As a Ranger fan, I was sad to see him leave but I understood. Players move teams. But this news just sucks, and I wish Hank the best and I hope he can fix the heart and get healthy. Whether he plays again is a secondary issue. He will forever be one of my all time favorites. Not just Rangers, all athletes.

Yeah, we carried Drury's cap-hit after he retired. For retained salary transactions, it would disappear if he retired, but not buy-outs.

It's the Hockey Gods' way of saying that him dressing up in another uniform is blasphemy. I'm glad that the problem was found and hope that Hank feels better and is able to manage his condition well.
