Lundqvist will Not Play this Season (Heart Condition)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Another example of careful what you wish for as for all of us who didn't want to see him play anywhere else.

Absolutely not and delete this post. We will make do, it always happens.

I don’t even think this is a remote possibility. I don’t think he would’ve signed with another team, trained all summer and fall and been in DC with their team for a while, if he has any inkling he was having health issues. Nor do I think the Caps would’ve signed him. Just horrible luck all round.
I actually agree, but the Rangers should be doing their due diligence here. It’s feels like forever since we bought Hank out, because of the draft and whatnot, but it’s only been 10 weeks. That’s an awfully short amount of time to go from feeling fine to “weeks and weeks of testing.”

It warrants some investigation is all I’m saying. The timeline is very tight. I really doubt there’s anything there, though.

The Rangers wouldn’t want Hank on LTIR. It would have blown all the ELC performance bonuses over to 2021-22.

The realized bonuses are a much smaller concern that the potential bonuses exceeding the cushion.

I’m going to disagree here slightly. The concern should be whether any bonuses roll over to hit the 2021-22 cap. Right now the Rangers have somewhere around $3m in space to fit any bonuses earned this season. Which is quite reasonable given they should be planning on $3-3.5m in actual earned bonuses. So good odds little or no bonuses roll over.

If Hank was on LTIR then the team would have $0 room for performance bonuses this season, causing that projected $3-3.5m to all carry over to 2021-22, reducing cap space.

So potentially ~$3 million in 19-20 bonuses to be carried in 20-21 (which seems a little high to me with almost $6 million of their potential bonuses being Schedule B, but hey, I haven't seen what the actual bonuses are). But you lose Lundqvist's $1.5M buy-out charge in 20/21. And gain some more flexibility this year, which is really the bottleneck. Next year they shed about $10 million in Shattenkirk and Smith.

Hopefully the situation is well in hand, and he's in good health.

I was genuinely looking forward to being able to root for him to win the cup, even if it wasn't with us.

I believe Kakko, Lafreniere, Fox and Shesterkin all have the full $850k in Schedule A bonuses. Which would be $3.4m if they all hit them. A few other players have some much smaller schedule A bonuses in the $200-300k range.

If I were the Rangers GM I’d be managing my cap with the expectation of strong probability at least $2.5m of those bonuses hit, and material possibility something close to the $3.4m happens.

Schedule B bonuses are so rare I wouldn’t go out of my way to plan for them. Even the most elite of ELC players rarely hit them.

One positive thing for the Rangers is because the total amount of performance bonuses exceed the bonus cushion their cap space is reduced this season, meaning they have to keep somewhere around $3m of “unused” cap space in 2020-21. But that space should dovetail nicely with the earned schedule A bonuses so little to no performance bonuses carry over to the 2021-22 cap.

Wonder if his red bull gave him more than wings? Strange for a guy like Hank as a seemingly healthy athelete to play his whole career without this being an issue before.

Ok gang sorry I couldn't chime in earlier with work and some people may roll your eyes at me and say I'm making this up but this is not a new condition. Hank has been being monitored since he's a kid.

This has been known during his entire tenure with the Rangers.

I'm not connected to any insiders (other than the casual way I've known a few people who have covered the team and I never ask them about what goes on behind the scenes).

I was told by someone in the medical business who worked with the Rangers during the Renney era this information over a few beers. A casual acquaintance who I used to hang out with in my 20s. This was after Lundqvist was established but when Montoya was still here.

They said in these exact words "they may want to hold on to Montoya a little bit longer. Lundqvist looks legit but there is one thing I'm concerned about with him..."

I was asked under no circumstances to share with anyone because they could have been fired from that job.

It's been about 13-14 years now and that person is long gone from the org so......

What I theorize is the amount of stress and pressure he's put on himself and his body the last 24 months to train harder, change his diet, etc. It probably didn't help along with aging

Might be made up excuse maybe his wife did not want to relocate there after seeing the city and seeing things on the news.
