No, he isn't a high upside pick and I think it's a bit early to take him where they did.. but as long as he can provide enough offense to be a supplemental piece in the top 9, then it's a total win because guys with his size, skating and puck protection aren't readily available.

Just have to hope he can develop enough offense.

I’d be worried about his lack of progression. Cuylle is the exact same player he was a year ago. Not much has changed, including his production. That’s a red flag for me.

A legit concern.

72nd on Wheeler's list:

Doesn't have his brother's speed but he's meaner and stronger. He can impose himself in a game through his relentless pressure or net drive. Won't wow you with his vision or passing. Could be a good depth piece.
Wheelers might be my least favourite list TBH but ya I’ve heard he is not his brother. Hopefully he turns into a solid, physical middle 6 guy.
Sounds like a lot of teams were calling for the pick to take him so hopefully there’s some real upside there.

Seems there's not a lot of footage of him, I think the more exposure he gets, the more we'll understand his offensive upside. Like others have said, he didn't play a first line role last year and I can see him becoming a two-way 2nd line LW

Tuch and Poehling on the third line. Big, speedy, and fore checking. Plus some grit and nastiness

If Armia is still around thats a sweet third line, or even if we move luke to the right and play Poehling on the left with Danault in the middle again I love that third line.

I wanted him with one of our seconds, so I'm very glad we got him. I tend to think MBs right about those teams trying to trade up for him. Maybe it's too high, but the risk is worth it.

I don't mind taking a flyer on one of these types of guys every year. If they do develop into good players you really hit the jackpot.

Yes he has been. Pierre is coming up on TSN690 in a few minutes so he'll for sure talk about and sing the praises of Tuch again. Expecting a few I told you guys from Pierre here in a few minutes about Tuch. :)
Yeah I recall he said Tuch was the kid the Habs should draft early 2nd and said it before our 2nds got bumped down...

Says he plays like Jamie Benn and his mindset is like Matthew Tkachuk. Good project pick he could be a fun player
Too bad he probably has less skill than Michael McCarron. He will probably be better than McCarron but I don't like his upside. Hope he makes me eat my words and becomes a player close to his brother.

Not a fan of this pick. Pure crash and bang without good speed is a bad mix. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see more than a middling AHL player in this kid.

Not really. The mealy mouthed non opinions are far more common. You know, for example, the people who say they want a list of 7 guys with one pick?
What you call mealy-mouthed, many others call open-mindedness and humility. If you prefer the braggarts that throw their toys out of the pram, that's your prerogative.

Hoping he complements one of our 2nd or 3rd line offensive forwards from 2022-23 to ~2030 but I know that's on the optimistic side. The upside is him creating a bunch of room for them on a consistent basis, so will need to ease into our AHL system in order to have an impact on the NHL roster. His arrival may be closer to 2024-25 because of that... he might see 1 season of Price/Webs!

“He has a good mentor and role model in his own brother (Alex Tuch). His brother has been through a lot and he's become a very good NHLer.”
“I'm sure he's has and will continue to understand the pro game and to have seen what his brother goes through and that'll help him along the way as well. We like what he brings. We want to address that in our stable of prospects - the type of game that he plays. So we're happy to get him where we did.”
“It was funny, because a lot of teams were calling to trade for that pick, after we selected him. That's the reason they were calling, to trade for that pick, was to select him. We were lucky to hold onto it and be able to select Luke.”

Seriously the most annoying shit. Every single move is just wait and see, wait and see. It's a discussion board and discussing opinions is apparently uncouth for us simple plebs, the same guys that picked McCarron and Crisp are beyond reproach when they have clearly been targeting size and grit again for the last six weeks.

What you call mealy-mouthed, many others call open-mindedness and humility. If you prefer the braggarts that throw their toys out of the pram, that's your prerogative.
Come on. It's a hockey discussion board, it's not inherently virtuous to be a "humble" neutral observer on a board where we shitpost about teenage hockey players.
