Ya cause you know, Montreal has that history of NCAA players opting for free agency….especially now with Hughes at the helm who’s clueless when it comes to the US programs and their players.

You can just say what you want without being a total dick about it.

There isn’t a big enough recent sample size of 4 year NCAA players to think it’s unthinkable that American players wouldn’t sign with Montreal. Certainly not to the extend of acting so smug about it.

Problem is he is very likely to play his 4th season at BU and will then be a free agent. Not positive he has any reason to sign with MTL over the typical US teams.

Most players sign with the team that drafted them, in this case I could see if he wanted to possibly play with his brother one day or not and wants to just go with the team that drafted him. I haven't heard anything one way or the other on his intentions, I know Hughes was on his tour of those Northeastern US NCAA prospects so I would think he knows very well what his intentions are so if they were worried about it they could just move his rights at some point.

For now he really just needs to focus on being better and being way more consistent. He's trying to change his game from more of a McCarron type to more of a Power Forward, I'm not sure that's going to work and can't say I agree with the advice or idea of it but we'll see what happens.

The question is- has Tuch done enough to earn a contract? Numbers are putrid for a power forward type in his 3rd year.

Yes, just like Struble. They aren't bringing these guys over to be high point producers. They are being brought in because they have NHL attributes that are needed on the club.

Habs don't have a lot of big bodies in the pipeline with a bit of a scoring touch and a mean streak.

He’s never been his brother even at prep school, he’s was always drafted to be a bottom-6 mean, big body player.

NCAA game doesn’t lend itself to the big body mean game. He’ll be well served to play AHL, and continue to work with Adam Nicholas which he’s been doing - that in itself is an indication there’s a high probability he gets signed.

If not this year, we will next year.

He has a unique profile and the right tools to play a valuable bottom 6 role down the line.

Yeah agreed, I'm wondering if they do it this year and get him playing in Laval next year. I feel like he will get a lot out of playing pro hockey in the AHL.... much like Struble.

Whatever we can get out of the remaining Timmins' draft picks at this point will be helpful.

Even if Tuch replaces Armia in the future, paying a guy less than 1/3 of Armia's cap hit to put up 15-20 points and actually play physical in the bottom six will be a big help as it'll allow HuGo to spend on the more key positions.

I don't think he will amount to much but unless he refuses he's getting a contract. Even if his future is as a tweener he's still a big body with some upside.

States can't be hurting that bad. I imagine they asked Alex and he asked if his brother was being asked and if his brother was being asked, then Alex was going to play for them
I dont know, they have been doing this thing of having young guys from the NCAA in recent years.

And personally, If I were in charge of the US team, and Alex asked that, I would have told him to **** off.
