I'd say Moore + 3rd, maybe the pick is conditional to become a 2nd if we win a playoff round or two?

Oh no doubt. He's incredible at his role and he was amazing in that series.

But I can still see why Leafs fans are hesitant with this trade knowing Babcock's tendencies. Regardless of how effective he is, those are still minutes being eaten up on a team with some very good players.

After some research, the majority of the 39 games Glendening played 16 minutes or more under Babcock, came in the 14-15 season. If people think back, that is the season where Weiss missed just under half the season, Joakim Andersson played less than 70 games, Datsyuk missed a significant amount of time.

There was a stretch, where even with Zetterberg moved over to center, where Glendening was forced to play in a top 9 role. With his PK time, and the times he had to play in the top 9 role, it's no real surprise Glendening had some high usage.

His usage isn't really an issue. If we can acquire a solid 4th line center that Babcock trusts, that's great, depending on the price of course

I really hope they don't trade for him because frankly, I don't think he's a good player but if acquiring him is the least damaging way to appease babcock, then so be it.

I'm still skeptical the Leafs will pay the Wings asking price for Glendening. I'm guessing if a deal does get done it will be something like Glendening for Martin + 18 2nd + 19 3rd. Glendening for a 2nd and a 3rd to dump Martin

Would be pretty sweet if they retained 300k to make it a even 1.5 million (or more), even if we had to sweeten the pot alittle more.

I do believe aaltonen will be given 3rd line centre chance next year with Johnnson and Kapanen as line mates. So your saving a lot on that line. Unless tavares changes everything :sarcasm:

Let's take it with a grain of salt since friedman is a glorified hack

I doubt that Glendening gets a 2nd. I'm pretty sure that was the Wings asking price but I think they'll end up with a 3rd or 4th and something to sweeten the deal a bit. We'll see though.

We traded a 2nd last season for Boyle....who walked. I would do Martin+2nd for Glendenning.

a 2nd is pretty steep pick, id like to add another contract from us in this deal as well. Maybe moore? or maybe marincin? get more $ and contracts off the books

The Wings have no reason to back down from their asking price. We know that it is the Leafs that have inquired about Glendening and that the Wings responded they won't trade him cheaply and are happy to keep him.

There is no chance the Wings are retaining salary lol. Glendening is not a guy that the Wings are trying to get rid of, he's a guy that your team's coach wants to get. There is no urgency to move him from the Red Wings standpoint, so he will only move if the value is fair. Retaining salary on a guy with a decent deal is absurd.

Would a 5th round pick be enough to get Detroit to keep Glendenning? ... Ok, I'll go as high as a 3rd. You're a tough negotiator.

Seriously though, if the Leafs trade for Glendenning there had better be salary retained. 3 seasons after this one at 1.8 is a joke for a 4th liner.

It really isn't, the better 4th line players are paid around $1.5M or more.

If we could do that, then great. But getting a useful 4C while unloading Martin (who isn't and won't be playing) is worth a 2nd to me....same as Boyle last season.

Fair enough.

Dunno why some Leafs fans are afraid of the term, it's very little money, and it's not like glendening is just some random 4th line scrub that can easily be replaced.

He's infact one of the best face-off men in the league and is relatively successful matching up against other teams top lines and thus enabling players like Matthews/Kadri to face easier competition.

This little dance seems so long and drawn out for a 4th line guy.

Just do Leivo and a 3rd and call it a day, or Maybe Moore and a 3rd since Moore is the one losing his spot

Maybe the Wings don't want those players??? No reason to settle just to "call it a day". We are happy to keep Glenny.

IlWhats the scoop on guys like Rasanen and Grundstrom? I could see one of those guys with a later pick being part of the deal as well if the Leafs dont want to give up a second this year.

Less Lou was drunk neither would be made available for a Luke Glendening trade, lol.

I've been saying a Martin+Moore+2nd for Glendening could work if the Wings have the contract spot and cap space.

Glendening has nearly 67% of his zone starts at even strength in the defensive zone. That is crazy and no one should expect a Corsi near or above 50% for a player with that usage.

This is pretty much what I'm thinking if a trade goes down. If Leafs have to send a player back, I cannot see it being a winger, otherwise we're waiving someone to call up Turgeon or whoever to fill in Glendenning's spot. Bertuzzi's our only forward that doesn't need waivers. I'd rather keep him up.

classic babcock kind of player that he usually has on his roster. defensive minded C that matches up against opposing top lines. good FO% dont expect more than 15-20 pts/82 games. also tends to get overplayed a bit
Babcock doesnt use 4th line against top line. That would be crazy, it's usually kadri or straight up power v power. defensive face off, pk and protecting leads yeah that I could see. There is no way he would use this guy against other teams top line. 20 mins ice time for the 4th line not gonna happen.

Maybe he wants him so he can use him against other teams 1st line? He's used Glenny as a top line shut down role before, no reason to think he won't again. Fact is we just don't know.
