I was a fan of Giguere at the draft, thought he was the best G prospect that year by far, kind of hoped we'd take him. I couldn't believe two teams gave up on him before he'd even gotten a chance and we got him for like a pick.

Even that first year when we still sucked he was keeping us in games (how many 1-0 and 2-1 games did we lose?), and I knew we had something.
The other BM years. Jiggy was so good.

Especially for a goalie. From my own experience, all the way down to the recreational level, goalies are either complete headcases or the nicest guys ever. Having one of the latter kind does make it easier for the locker room when the results aren’t there for a while, at least.
A lot of why I thought the length of the Gibson contract was a mistake. The number of goalies that stays good to very good for an 8 year span is exceedingly small.

dostal has been fantastic this year. Ducks have been blessed with goaltending.
We take for granted how blessed they have been over the existence of the franchise. They have gone from 1 legit starter to the next and never had a year without one.

Hebert
Giggy
(Bryz)
Hiller
Freddy
Gibson
Dostal

And all of those guys were home grownish talent. Hebert and Giggy were not drafted by the Ducks but they broke out as a Duck.

Agreed except for Hiller, for me. That guy was toxic

Out of those, my least favorite was Hiller. Favorite was Jiggy.

Kind of unrelated but I just went and looked at the different goalies that have played for us. Dan Ellis is one of my favorite backups we had. I remember being at a Ducks v Rangers game in like 2011 (?) where he made some wild stick save and then Bobby Ryan scored going the other way. One of the best saves Ive seen live.

Is there any nice photo (picture) of Dostal in new Ducks jersey pls? I have already seen those on Ducks facebook and twitter.

He had a tendency to blame the guys in front of him. He also had terrible rebound control, would get scored on as he stared blankly at the puck that just hit him, then blame the D.
Interesting I didn’t notice that as much with him as I do with Gibby.

Maybe I’m just blinded by my love for that game 6 vs Det save with like a second left in 09

I think Gibby is grumpy with an attitude problem who is sick of being on a shit team. In my opinion, he has more excuse to be how he is than Hiller did.

agreed. Hiller was on good teams and was still overly critical of his team, imo to the point of being abrasive and obtuse. If he ever did compliment the guys in front of him, it certainly wasn’t to the extent he blamed.

Even after the worst nights, I don’t think Gibby has been anything close to what Hiller was like and like you said he would’ve had much more of an excuse to be upset.

My fav backup is Gerber. Then Stolarz is a very close second.

Dostal has been elite, no argument there. I feel if all our players played with his passion and tenacity we'd be doing a lot better with that shot differential. Zellwegger was also making stuff happen with his skating even though he was a turnover away from odd man rushes/breakaways. At least you could tell he was trying.

I'd really love to see the goalie call out the competitiveness of the rest of the team. HIT / SKATE / Make something happen out there.

Too many people do laps on the ice and getting nothing done out there.

Goalies aren't told to alter things drastically on the ice. Whereas the skaters are subject to alter their schemes and play style from new coach to new coach. Coaching that is reliant on players' extra individual effort in a bad scheme is doomed to fail more often than not.

Dump and chase is bound to lead to success. Any day now.
