His composure is off the charts. A lot of like his friend and fellow Moravian, Krejcikova haha.

Lukas is the real deal. Doesn't mean he won't have rough outings here and there but i love the idea of having him as the starter on a contending team.

I think most goalies with his level of athleticism, struggle to remain as positionally sound and composed, end up over pushing and forced to flop around much more. To both Dostal's credit and that of whoever coached him at a young age, he is incredibly refined in terms of commanding the crease with controlled movements. Then he just seems to have that ice water in his veins quality that you want, where he doesn't lose track of technique or position when the arena temperature/volume cranks up. He's built for a big stage

I know it's only one game but since last season it's felt like the team plays better with Dostal and Dostal wants to earn the starter role by playing his best while Gibson is just on cruise control.
Gibson can take his time recovering and maybe do rehab games in San Diego) so that Dostal can keep starting games to prevent Cronin from playing Gibson more than Dostal.

Reminds me of the 2008 Giguere/Hiller situation where it becomes clear the younger goalie should be the starter and the veteran needs to be the back up until they can find a way to trade the veteran.

His untangibles are off the charts. Seems like a super nice guy.
Especially for a goalie. From my own experience, all the way down to the recreational level, goalies are either complete headcases or the nicest guys ever. Having one of the latter kind does make it easier for the locker room when the results aren’t there for a while, at least.

Which one is Bryzgalov ? He might be a category of his own lol.
He's not really a Russian anymore given he still lives in the USA and his draft eligible son has only played for American teams.

This franchise has been so lucky with goalies. Dostal is a beauty, and no doubt he'll be starter from now on. I do hope Gibson finds a new home. He might still have some game in him, and he has been a good trooper for years when it's been difficult.

Who is your favorite goalie we've had? I loved Jiggy and Hiller was such a cool guy as well.

Part of the reason we've been fortunate with goalie is that we have layered our goalies duos. We can let our goalies maturate slowly. Dostal still needs to prove he can be more consistent over the season; Last October he was goalie of the month and then his stock crashed hard in Nov. In the mean time, kudos to our pro scouting in finding competent backups such as Miller and Stolarz. Beyond Dostal, we don't have much. Clara seems to be struggling in his first season in the SHL this year. Maybe we should continue the legacy of keeping good duos until we can find a more competent backup.

Stolarz is/was a great goalie. Played even statwise #s w Bob last year in Fla and now has a good contract backing up in Tor. Looks like he never had a chance to be a starter anywhere.

Hope Reimer is anywhere near that quality. Who knows what Gibby will be like post appy, trade rumors, years of punishment

Stolarz did have a chance to be a starter with Philly, but the injury (knee/hip?) derailed him. The Ducks picked Stolarz up to rehabilitate him and it worked out well. Stolarz bought us time to develop Dostal.

I remember when Gibson dominated this list for a few consecutive seasons.

I'm not sure if favorite is the right word but I've always had a soft spot for Andersen and I was upset when he was moved. But then Gibson turned out to be one of the best keepers in the league for a few seasons so it was hard to be upset about the choice that was made, but I always liked Andersen on and off ice.

I was a fan of Giguere at the draft, thought he was the best G prospect that year by far, kind of hoped we'd take him. I couldn't believe two teams gave up on him before he'd even gotten a chance and we got him for like a pick.

Even that first year when we still sucked he was keeping us in games (how many 1-0 and 2-1 games did we lose?), and I knew we had something.
