kopitar and gaborik can play any game, boards, netfront, you name it. lucic did not show that width yet, not with kings. the question here is how narrow player he is longterm. i believe he can learn a lot of new tricks, but if we exclude him from the 1st line - is he worth the money?[

from what i saw: this trio can make a lot of very damaging forecheck without the puck, maybe even the best ever lak trio in this department, but once they get the possession they are lost. and maybe it's just a simple click that's missing, and with marian not in his best form, well, that's what we get.

i hope looch will play with kopi and gabby, they need time, but it's on milan to prove that he belongs in the 1st line.

Sorry, while we all wish this was true, it just isn't. Gaborik is struggling, and Kopitar, while perhaps being capable of playing any game, has a mindset that prevents him from getting pucks to the net with the frequency required for Lucic to be successful.

From a production standpoint, Lucic was playing on the top line, and playing well. That doesn't mean that I think he is worth anything close to $7M a season, for 8 years though.

Maybe Kopitar and Gaborik can figure out how to be effective with Lucic. Lucic doesn't play a complicated game.

Sutter needs to get him back on Carter's line, because it's obvious that he is never going to be effective playing with Kopitar. With Carter's line the puck gets to the net where Lucic can clean up the garbage. The puck doesn't get to the net with the same frequency on the Kopitar line.

Looking forward the return of Dwight King. He may be the missing piece to solidify the forward lines.

I never considered King to be the missing link, but oh that smiley face....

I think this trip helped demonstrate just how important good depth is.

Overloading top players = fatigue, = can't keep up with our system.

King is an important piece. Mersch has been unimpressive. Sutter seems to agree with that part now at least. Can't wait to get all of those guys (King, Lewis, Clifford) back into the lineup so guys can get 'tryouts' in a situation that isn't so messy.

Sutter is not impressed with any rookie this year, Weal and Mersch have been underwhelming. They are both not ready for the NHL.

I agree about Gaborik/Kopitar, not getting to the net. It's why Gabo is struggling, he is not getting to that blue paint. Kopitar is a little bit better this year driving center ice, but it's only slightly better.

Lucic is not taking a paycut to stay, the guy already has a Cup, he is looking for that retirement contract, and rightfully so.

this. i just hope they will go back to fundamentals, play a straightforward game, and have a beer together from time to time to talk about it. obviously it will take some time, but if they can make it work until the playoffs, ho ho! but right now they are just a line with a huge potential and nothing to show for it.

also, they generated some prety good chances against toronto, and it was mostly on gabby not burying them. just guessing here, but maybe it's gabby's form that's the weakest link here, at the moment.

again about the lucic-gaborik-kopitar line and how to make it work.

here's a little comparision between gaborik and lucic, shot attempts this season. from what i see they are fighting for the some inches of ice (with lucic being a bit more successful). the tricky question: how to make them complementary?

Really wish they would put Pearson back on the first line. I just think the lines work so much better this way.

true, so far overall top6 or even top9 were doing better with pearson there. none of them was a high-production line, but somehow it worked, even with visible cracks in the shield. and i admit i'm being a bit idealistic here: if - and that's a huge if - looch & gabby & kopi can make it work, that could become a terrifying 1st line, truly designed for another cup. may god bless them.

Milan Lucic's dream of remaining with the Los Angeles Kings appears to be in the early stages of coming to fruition.

The 27-year-old forward, who's playing his first season with the club after being acquired from the Boston Bruins this past summer, says he and his camp have had at least some level of discussion with management in regards to a contract extension.

"There's been two or three little talks here and there," Lucic told Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times. "My plan is to remain a King and hopefully finish off my career here. Like I said, I go day by day and you never know what tomorrow is going to bring.

"If I could look eight, nine, 10 years down the road, hopefully I play that long. I hope it is right here in LA and that something can get done and conversations can get picked up in the near future because I really have enjoyed my time this season and love being a King and living here in LA"

Lucic is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end, and has recorded 12 goals and 18 assists in 50 games with the Kings.

On Tuesday, he'll make his first appearance in Boston since the trade.

Maybe this is DL's way of banking future cap space. We'll be in a rebuild mode in a few years given the core will be 30+ (minus Drew and Toffoli) so he's ensuring more high draft picks by locking guys into long-term deals while their production is set to decline, ala Brown and Gabby.

And yes, I am just being :sarcasm:

Lots of high quality assets to sell off for firsts in a couple of years!

Lucic wrote in the players tribune about going to Boston as a King and about the Kings. Great read:

And I don't care how many times I look at my wall and see the Kings Cup championship photos (photoS! Plural!), part of me STILL can't believe the Kings are this good. Then I see this at the bottom of the Lucic article:

Sometimes it's still so hard to believe. A Kings Cup-winning and Conn Smythe winning goalie in an outdoor game? Elite snipers? 2 Cups? It's still unbelievable. Hapless in 2006 to the stars of the league in 2016. Who'd have thought.

Go for 10!!!! Oh wait that was the last thread....

Get'er done Lombardi!!!!
Lucic is Kings hockey!!!!

I still have to pinch myself from time to time. after the 2012 cup win, LOTS of people were saying it was a fluke and it was this and that, and to be 100% truthful I kinda doubted the Kings myself. then the 2014 cup run, coming back after being down 0-3 to win in game 7, and then win 2 more game 7's against the Ducks and Hawks, its still beyond surreal. I just hope it lasts

I loved how 2013 somehow 'confirmed' it was a fluke for some (biased) observers even though we willed our way into the WCF and the Blackhawks woodchipper. Coming back in 2014 and doing it almost the complete opposite way of 2012 has shut up all but the most delusional critics. What a time to be a Kings fan.

disagree on mersch. He was sent down because King got healthy and Mersch did not need to clear waivers.
Plus with King back it was better he spend time on the ice in the AHL then in the pressbox in the NHL. He is ready for 3rd/4th line duty if needed.
I agree with you on Lucic.
