If Mersch sticks with the club, I'd look for DL to move King and even possibly Pearson.

Yeah, that ain't happening.

King is the guy that you gotta move.

Pearson is too young and has too much upside and is playing on the 1st line. Lucic is cemented on the 2nd line.

The 3rd like LW is the spot that Mersch is taking from King so if I am Lombardi I deal King, re-sign Lucic and put Mersch on the 3rd line.

King makes 2 million.

How so? Where is the cap space going to come from?

We have approximately $3 MM in Cap space right now, which is all going to go for the difference in Kopi's new deal.

It is expected that the Cap will rise by $2 MM to $3 MM and that would make up the difference in Lucic's new deal.

Yes, that may mean that Lewis and/or Clifford will have to go, so be it. We can also dump Weal's salary on waivers because that dude just isn't cutting it right now.

I'm a big fan of Lewis and am thankful for his contributions, but he's not worth more than he's getting now. He can get paid elsewhere.

Agree 100%. He's a solid bottom 6 player. Good on the PK, has speed, etc. But is he worth more than $2M/year? I dont think so. Not unless he was giving us around 30points of production which he'll never do.

If he wants more than a $500k/year raise, I let him walk.

I agree totally Honestly nothing against King but hes the one i move out the 4

Not saying you guys are wrong but it's also easy to say that when they're not here re: Lewis and King...and funny enough, most of people's complaints lately have been about the bottom six...

If I was forced, I'd keep Lewis and trade King. Lewis is like a Swiss Army knife

Same, but some of the reason King is (currently and suddenly) obsolete is the big body presences of Lucic--who may not stay here next year--and Mersch--who we have yet to see how he fits in. I'm not sure the Kings want to give up much skilled size. But I'd also be bummed to see Lewis go with how much he brings all-around.

Kempe will probably see bottom six time next year, no?

Some, probably, but he'd also only be turning 20(?) and a 2nd year pro. I imagine the Kings would like to see him marinate some more unless he totally Mersch's out the back end of this season.

IF the Kings were to sign Lucic before the end of the season, would the tagging rule prevent Lombardi from signing Kopitar?

Would the Kings have to trade a roster player to stay within the tagging rules if they signed both Kopitar and Lucic during this season?

Ehrhoff, McBain, Lewis, Enroth, Weal, Forbort, and McNabb are all on expiring contracts. So its unlikely the tagging rule will apply unless some of them are signed first.

What exactly is the "allure" in Vancouver? Nothing alluring about that team.

Other than it's his hometown, nothing. Even that doesn't hold much weight after 2011. He and his family were treated horribly during the Cup run, he made comments then that he had no desire to ever return home to play afterwards. I can easily see him wanting to stay on the West Coast so he is at least closer and easier to get home when able to for visits. With Brittany being from Florida, I am sure she is loving being in Cali and is likely hoping to stay there as much as your FO wants him to.

Also, so happy to see that you guys are now seeing the Looch that we all knew and loved in Boston after a rough first couple of weeks. The only positive to the trade for me (other than the potential of a top 4 pick from SJ LOL) is I'm now on the west coast myself so I still get to watch him play.

Canucks are currently sixth in an absolute garbage division. The loser point is propping them up right now; they have 22 losses and are 11 games under .500. This is an extremely bad team with no identity and tons of veterans. They have no plan and no road map for the future. They sign Miller as a rebuild on the fly move which was an absolute awful decision. They need to blow the entire thing up. If it wasn't for the Sedins and being in the Pacific, this would be a lottery team.

The only thing that makes their season even palatable is the logjam between two and seven. The worst thing to be in the NHL is an average team. Be the best or the worst.

The early season "struggles" of Lucic were way overblown on this board. Lucic has all the tools to be a dominant player especially on a team like the Kings. That's why he was so successful in Boston. Every sign pointed to this guy having a monstrous year and he has so far. Just wait until the playoffs start.

He steps his game up a level or two in the playoffs which has me excited like a little girl on Christmas Eve !

Loving Lucic so far and hope he signs a well worthy extension.

Pretty much the same as I was saying about a week ago. Don't understand why he would ever want to return to that city after the way he was treated, but the even bigger picture is that the team is in absolute shambles right now.

The guy fits right in with the Kings' and their philosophy. I especially love his beautiful slot passes to Toffoli, who if he wasn't playing so badly would be up to 15 goals just with the feeds that Lucic is giving him. The guy has a great touch with the puck 10 feet and in. He should have twice the assists he does now without the rest of the Kings ****ing up and shooting it wide or directly at the gut of the goaltender.

well, stranger things have happened.

I do like the guy and he fits the team on AND off the ice perfectly from what I can tell, maybe he takes a discount of sorts and signs a cap-friendly long term deal for Dean.

I'm hoping the same, he's just such a perfect fit in every way, AND he hasn't been a clown...you could see the restraint when the usual suspects from MTL were trying to get him to lose his **** like he did in the past.

I'm glad he has a screw loose, but I'm also glad he can check it, because next time he goes nuts, it'll be for a good reason, like someone cracking Kopi or Quick. Would also like him to continue to pick up the physical element later on in the season, seems like most of the Kings on this trip have been doing skate-bys to keep up speed and conserve energy.

Package a deal with King and Nolan, 3 mil right there in savings.

Merch=King
Anyone=Nolan

But yeah, i get what you're saying.

Real cap savings, only come from moving players like Brown/Gabo(without cap retention)

That would be true cap savings, cause their likely replacements would only be making around 980k-2 million or so.
