More then that, I'd say it all boils down to the loss at home to the flames when we gave up two goals with their goalie pulled back in December.

That game was the death of us.

That game also ended Calgary's eight game losing streak, and arguably turned around their season.

Just back from the game. The pregame and intermission videos almost had me misty eyed. Just seeing all the good times the team went through and then this disappointing season. The win was a small consolation though. Nice to go out on a good note like that.

Wow, not only the same points as 2011-12, but same record as well. We did get lucky that year in terms of getting in. This year, the conference was just tougher.

But yes, 40 wins is not a good sign. That means you lost more games than you won. We need to at least win 46 to guarantee a playoff spot. Would love to see this franchise's first 50-win season.

Wow that's crazy actually. Just looked it up, we have 4 more ROW this year as well (2012: 34, 2015: 38). If just one game swung this way or that, we could have been in again.

2012 regular season record: 40-27-15
2015 regular season record: 40-27-15

We would've actually still missed the playoffs. Calgary would be in by virtue of the tie breaker. It's the Edmonton lost that killed us. We would be in, if we would've won.

Hmm, but before Thursday's game I thought they had 95 points to our 93. If we would have won Thursday, they would have ended their season at 95 (considering their loss today,) whereas we would have ended it at 97. (+2 on Thursday, +2 today)

ETA: It's strange. It's fairly quiet around here and I find myself hanging around asking, "Is the party really over?" Has everyone gone home already?"

Got a little misty eyed the last 30 seconds. I really wish NBC hadn't cut away. I wanted to see the player/fan salute.

Couldn't help but clap and salute them in the last few minutes. What a bittersweet feeling it is...
Now time to hop on the Blues bandwagon for these playoffs. (Go 1967 expansion teams!)

Hopefully they have their priorities straight, and don't play in the WCs. I'm looking at you Kopi.

Having his priorities straight means playing in the WCs. Sorry. http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1873755 It's excruciating enough for European hockey fans when some of their best players aren't available for the top annual international hockey event due to the Stanley Cup playoffs, but not being available due to having to rest from previous seasons' playoffs would be perceived as an outrage, and justifiably so, by many European hockey fans.

No offense, and this will probably come over as very rude, but I don't give two ***** about the IIHF. What happens if our franchise players get injured in some useless tournament? And yes, when you are an NHL player, it's a useless tournament.

Unless it's written into their contracts, I imagine they can do as they want when the checks stop coming for the year.

Players want to play. Players want to play for their country. It'll suck for us if he were to get hurt if he plays, but what can you do?

It's not useless if you were born and raised in a country that is your home country. In the same way, European hockey fans might call all the anthem playing and military ceremonies prior to NHL games "silly and useless". Do we? Nope. It's an expression of overseas patriotism. So is playing at the World Championships for European NHL players, regardless of their "employer".

Chain him to the Santa Monica pier?

You should, I know I do. :) Never understood why that stuff has any place in sports unless it's an international competition.

Losing Williams will sting the most for me. Maybe I'll buy his jersey to remember how great he was for us.
I referred to him as Mr. Dependable, right up until this year. He did an awful lot of good for this team. Will miss him. So hard to watch favorite players decline from one year to the next.

They could stop him from playing, it just wouldn't go over well.

Great season guys. It's an honor to have you guys beat us down. I will dedicate parts of my offseason to defending your team on the main boards so you don't have to go through what we went through last year.

Not the year we all would have hoped for but what can you. We had some bad luck this season, it happens and you move forward and look forward to the next challenge.

Again, at the end of the day, the Kings have 2 Stanley Cups in the last three years. A great accomplishment in today's NHL.

Love this team and proud to be a supporter of the LA Kings.

Fan since 85'. I love LA! Crank some Randy Newman.

24 games between ES goals for Toffoli. Surprising. Just another one of those kinds of stats from this year.
