I just read Australia is outlawing social media for kids 16 and under. I doubt that lasts but in some ways I can totally understand. It is a shame it has to come down to that but I think social media can have some really negative effects on kids as well.
I dunno what's worse, the way it rots their brains by sucking in all their attention or how they use it to bully one another.

It's all shite for kids. Algorithms automatically push harmful content (eating disorder/self-harm stuff, rage bait, nuisance streamers, whatever else) and kids' brains are literally not developed enough to tell what is good content, and what is bad or harmful content. Hell, adults can barely do that. I watched a YouTube video recently about how CocoMelon is designed to be addictive to children - Everything from the colors they use to the amount of time between cutting from one scene to another. It's all to make a buck.

The bullying is another shitty aspect because if a kid's getting bullied at school now it can happen at home too from the same people. I'd imagine most kids don't want to block people because they think it's a sign of weakness as if they "can't handle" the bullying. Or they think it will bring some other form of social ostracizing..blocking them online doesn't block them in real life. The threat/thought of increased severity of bullying in real life from blocking someone online has to be another big source of anxiety for someone already being bullied.

f***ing kids, man.

Could use some help. Is
220 Bushwick Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11206 a good, bad or average area for a young person to live?

I'm expecting some pearl-clutchers to show up in the thread, but Bushwick is a great place for young people. Come summer time, the Morgan stop on the L is flooded, and there are a ton of bars and things to do in the neighborhood.

It has gentrified a billion percent in the last 15 years. I remember when Roberta's opened, and an employee ended their last shift topless. Now Roberta's has a location a block from MSG. Now the rent prices are probably insanely stupid for what Bushwick used to cost, but is ideal for anyone young.

Thank you. My main question is the crime factor. I know a young girl who wants to move there. I worry about her safety. Also how easy is it to get from there in to Manhattan?

Is she from NY? If she has a drop of street smarts, she’ll be fine. If she’s the type of girl who will get black out drunk and pass out on the street thinking she’ll be fine, NY isn’t for her.

Crime stats don’t mean shit imo.

She isnt from NY. She has made some poor decisions so I'm concerned.

This reminds me of a story.

I have a friend who works for ConEd, and I remember one time taking a ride in his car where he bellyached the whole ride about having to work at the Brownsville substation. It's on Van Sinderen right off of the Sutter Ave L stop (which is technically New Lots if you're like me an enjoy being pedantic!)

"Oh no, it's a really bad neighborhood, and I gotta work let at night, and oh woe is me." I thought he was being a candyass, so I went there one night at like 10:30. I walked down Pitkin. Turned and walked down Mother Gaston Blvd right through the projects. Walked down Livonia under the el. I eventually wandered all the way to the New Lots Avenue stop and took that home at around 11:45.

It was horrible. Somebody said hello to me. I saw a lady walking her yorkie. Unimaginable horrors. I'm on the phone most of the time telling my friend what a Karen he is.

I will say this, it's more dangerous out there for women. Also I have a pretty good sense of when danger is actually present and I know what to do. Which is not to say you have to be some grizzled vet, but you have to not be a complete idiot.

To answer the neighborhood question, I don't know if there is a particular neighborhood to worry about. Most crime isn't going to apply to you if you're not in a gang. You have to primarily be concerned about random crime, and the worst place for random crime is right around Times Square. Lots of loons hanging out in the street and a lot of dumb tourists that don't know what they're doing.

The address posted is a normal place where people live every day. It's not a location I would be concerned about over any other.

Also, to answer the other question, she can take the L to Manhattan which is one small notch below teleportation.
