I get the criticism but for ****s sakes... Can we at least keep the daily "Kopitar's on pace for a career worst" headline to a daily headline rather than every other page? I get it.

On pace for a career worst year. Cool. Don't have to keep telling me.

No, actually I think we need Hans' expertise on this. How about it Hans can we get a daily update on Kopitar's expected point total for the season, and where that point total will put him among NHL forwards at the end of the season?

I said this like 15 games ago. He looks like he did during the 2013 playoffs. Everyone shrugged it off, saying "he'll get his 70 points."

What's even more alarming is that this is essentially a contract year for him. Pretty ******.

Let me help you here, because you've posted this phrase at least a dozen times now, and it's like nails on chalkboard every time I read it.

There is no such thing as a "career worse" year.

What you're trying to reference is a "career WORST" year.

One thing is comparatively "worse" than another. The thing that is the most bad among several is "worst".

(Yes, the grammar Nazi came out, but to my credit, I held off many times.)

Hah! I see what you did there :)

Besides, Kopitar surely has worse years than this coming in his career.

We're just suffering from the hockey fan version of first world problems after what we've experienced over the previous 3 seasons. For as crappy as our team has played so far, they're still in the thick of it. AND we've seen worse from them in years past. Is there cause for concern? Sure. But the team as a whole isn't really old and I don't think they've forgotten how to play Kings hockey. I think some of our boys are mentally fatigued currently, but I suspect that sometime in the near future, hopefully something will spark the battery and they'll start turning it up. In 2012 and 2014, the Kings were charging down the stretch over the last 20+ games. If I don't see that this season, then maybe this season ends like 2013 or worse. Just hover around the 5th or 6th spot in the conference and 3rd in the Pacific and hope they have the finishing kick again.

Grammar Nazi's are the worse.

Anyway, yeah Kopitar's situation sucks and his point totals are pretty pathetic, but more than that it just bothers me that looks exhausted out there every shift, no strength on the puck, reaching, hoping, getting manhandled.

Oh well what can you do?

At this point in Kopitar's career right or wrong he's pacing himself for another long run in the playoffs. As long as they are in the hunt his effort will not change unless they fall behind in the playoff hunt. I really don't think its physical but mental fatigue.
Kopitar has had so much success recently with 2 Cups, 2nd in the Selke voting, Surprise showing by the Slovenian Olympic Hockey team, marriage, now a baby on the way. That's alot of emotion for a pretty sensitive guy.

When fans get a taste of success they expect more and more and it is harder to satisfy the thirst. Well the bottom line for me is the team is being run well and year in and year out we should have a chance and that is saying alot for this franchise.

In my years of being a Kings fan, its sad to say but ive gotten so used to early/mid-season slumps that they dont even phase me anymore. this team (the Quick/Doughty/Kopi core team) is NOTORIOUS for ******** the bed mid-season and then turning it on from January on to make a strong playoff run. Im not worried. LA has played more games in the last three seasons than any other team in the league. I dont want to excuse them for not playing 100% all the time, but I am understanding to the fact that these guys have a ton of wear n tear on their bodies. Id rather them coast through the first couple months than start out firing on all cylinders and crash out before the playoffs start. just my two cents

I think we all have noticed the same thing. I'm wondering if they shouldn't shut him down for 3 or 4 games and bring up Shore, even if there isn't anything wrong with him from an injury standpoint.

Said it before and I'll say it again.. Sitting Kopitar allows opponents the luxury of not having to deal with him in a game plan. This opens up their options for handling the rest of the Kings lineup.

A sub-par Kopitar still gives the Kings an advantage. Not as much as an optimal Kopitar, but better than no Kopitar.

So basically he's playing the hurt demaryius Thomas role...decoypitar.

Would be fantastic if last night sparked him though.
