To me it is a problem. They don't seem to take to kindly to guys trying to come over, see Kitsyn. Prokhorkin did well last year, so hopefully its not an issue but what if they start being hard on him over this? Hope it doesn't impact his development.

I think this would have been the best year for him to come over with the mass exodus of forwards in Manchester over the season.

The positive to take away I suppose is that the kid wants to get over here badly.

Hockey's Future's Alessandro Seren Rosso reporting Prokhorkin is staying in Russia for the year.

The timing of this makes sense; I believe CSKA's training camp opened today.

Damn KHL. We want our superprospect!

Got to think the way he's been treated over the past year with CSKA un-willing to re-negotiate his contract and then now telling him he can't buy out the remaining year has to re-affirm he needs to get out of there.

From Mayor's Manor:

KHL vs. Kings – Update on Prokhorkin Contract Situation

One of the reasons Kings GM Dean Lombardi and his staff have been so comfortable taking Russian players in the Draft is they feel they do the proper amount of homework, avoiding what most clubs call ‘the Russian factor.’ In Prokhorkin’s case they felt they did just that and were confident he was not bound to any deals in Russia.

Low and behold,

So why would he need to sign a new 1 year deal for next season if his contract wasn't terminated? I smell something fishy from the Prokhorkin side on this one.

I was thinking the same thing. Unless they are just re-negotiating an existing contract? Because they did previously say he was under contract until 2015?

It's obvious now that this guy is using the Kings as leverage for more money from CSKA. He knows he won't crack the Kings lineup and would have to spend a season or two in the AHL. I'm about at the point of let the guy either rot in the KHL or deal his rights to somebody like the Sabres or Oilers.

Prokhorkin is so skilled that staying in the KHL is not going to ruin the guy.

The KHL ruins guys like Maxim Kitsyn, raw undeveloped guys that need lots of work.

Both of your ideas are very bad. It's not a big deal let him finish the contract and play one more year than he comes here and with his skill could be on our roster in the first year or two in North America.

While I don't know specifics and admittedly have no real knowledge of how the KHL operates, player contracts are often more flexible in some European leagues allowing things like re-negotiations. I'm guessing that's what's being talked about, that he is still under contract but has to negotiate a new salary for the upcoming season. That's my guess. Now Prokhorkin might be using the situation in order to leverage more money just because he can, but hopefully he still has North America in mind and would go if he was legally able to.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge of the KHL knows what's going on.

Sounds to me like the KHL doesn't even know what is going on.

I don't know about that. Porkins did show up in Manchester last year after all. He thought he was going to play in the AHL.

The KHL has made it clear they are not going to let him leave until the end of this coming season. I think this renegotiation is him getting at least a raise for his excellent play if they won't let him leave. He's been fighting to get out of this contract since he was drafted, I believe, but the KHL says

Its obvious? Based on a few very short statements, none of which are from Prokhorin directly, its obvious? Talk about jumping to conclusions...

Folks, stop overreacting please.
Prokhorkin will be on the Kings opening roster on October 2015.

Book it.

I dont know about 2015, but by 2016, I can see it. There's no way we can keep this team intact forever.

Have you lost your mind?

Yeah... I don't know where your getting that idea from. He was the first person to report to Monarchs camp back in 2012, and he's repeatedly tried to get out of his contract with CSKA. Including trying to pay his own way out. Although I'm sure he ideally wants to play in LA. There is nothing to say he wouldn't play in Manchester. In fact, he already has.

To echo what about a half dozen other posters have said, I think your assessment is way off base. Though I'm curious how it is 'obvious' he's using the Kings. We don't know anything about what Porkins, LA or the Russia team/league have side behind closed doors in all of this outside of a few articles which are lacking in great detail. DL has never said anything negative about Porkins, Porkins has tried to come over to LA every year since he was drafted and even played in the organization for eight games before being yanked back behind the iron curtain. He tried to buy himself out of his final year as well and was reported to have done so before the team said nyet nyet (I haven't seen any article saying he got back the hundreds of thousands he handed over to get out of that contract either).

this is likely going to turn out like other Russian players LA has taken, he'll come over, he'll play in the organization and it'll turn out the reason he couldn't come to LA is because the russian league either A) was simply enforcing their side of the contract or B) they felt like being a bunch of ******. I haven't read nor seen anything yet that says Porkins is just using LA as a measure to extract money. if anything he's lost money on all of this (failed buy out of his deal).

Yeah. I believe the approach he's taking is that since he's stuck in the KHL for this upcoming season anyway (because of the year remaining on the deal) then he'd at least like to re-negotiate the salary so that he gets paid for being the best player on their team.

I could be wrong, but I could've sworn there was an article that said he was currently making less than $700,000 -- something around $660,000 or so.
