Hi from Raleigh. No changes shown. Weal extra on Kopitar's line; Forbort, McBain together on their first D-retrieval

Disappointed that he is sticking with the garbage 4th line.

I am fine with no changes on D, the six they had in last night are a clear improvement over anything Errorhoff has shown so far this season.

I agree with the sentiment on this board that this was only one game. Its okay. The bigger problem I have is that the Kings have not look good on the road so far (despite the great winning record so far) and the matchups are a glaring issue on the road.

I am not concerned with the defense, but rather the bottom 6. We clearly need a better third line center. Shore is okay, but he has shown, thus far, that he should be the fourth line center and not on the third line (with AA as a scratch and getting occasion games in if injuries happen or Shore has bad games). Also, I like Brown's energy this season, but he needs to go during the deadline. I think it is reasonable to retain up to $2 million in a trade. Teams like Edmonton, Calgary, and Colorado could benefit from his leadership, strong work ethic, and physical game at $4 million cap hit, plus someone like Weal going the other way.

Further, bringing in Mersh at the second half to play with Kopitar and Pearson will do wonders. He will have defense lapses, as with any other rookie, but Kopitar and Pearson should help minimize the liability his lapses will create. Also Mersh's strong shot mentality should benefit Kopitar and Pearson scoring those rebound calls.

The garbage 4th line is all we have. Sutter has to play with the roster he has. Brining in Weal on the 4th or 3rd line will be a disaster on the road. I have not been impressed with his defensive abilities. I would be interested to see him on the top line (since the 2nd line is set), but he is a center and obviously cannot replace Kopitar.

I agree with this sentiment. I love Brown to death but I don't think I can stomach another game with him and the puck doing some kind of medieval dance on the ice. I don't know if he has handled the puck cleanly all season. It's extremely frustrating to watch and I think it's time to part ways.

I would do it just like AlphaBravo laid out. Move Weal and bring in Mersch.

The 4th line is frustrating, but DS sees something there (as he often does) that we don't. I disagree with some of the moves he makes but he's gonna do it his way. He noted after practice today that 'shoresy' line was too quiet He did point out that 2 goals on the 4th line and they have to be better because he has to use them in all situations. (not really coach...) Also, he was not happy with the penalties.

I think Weal practicing on the 1st line might be an offset of that and perhaps Gabby sits and Weal goes in.

Really hope Mersch gets here in the next quarter, esp if the Kings continue to rely on Quick, DD and the Carter line in far too many games. That cost them last year. His youth, energy and skill would be a much needed cure.
So would a good 3rd line center....

No you don't. Forbort has an accurate low shot that he gets through. He has also shown considerable skill at keeping the puck in at the blueline.

Nobody wants to wait for players to reach their potential when the team is in win now mode, I get that. Once he gets through the Sutter hazing and he gains the necessary confidence, he will be a stud D.
C'mon dude, you are splitting hairs here.

Offense is more than an accurate low shot and keeping the puck in.

Those are 2 pretty big things, unless you like watching the other team go on breakaways when guys shoot it into their skates....it's not fair to come to a conclusion on his skills after just 6 games.

I could only listen to this game on the radio, but Nick Nickson kept saying over and over again how much Sutter was using Kopitar and Carter. The TOI stats seem to indicate that is true.

Kopitar with just one SOG in over 20 minutes of ice time. What's it going to take to get him to shoot the puck? I am glad Dean is waiting on the new contract. The AAV on that needs to be down around $7M, and I would hope not for 8 years.

The longer it waits, the cheaper it gets.

I don't really know though. To me, if he were released from the constraints of a Kings system, other teams might be be willing to pay more than Kings. The number will stay somewhat high. You don't want to reach a number where Kopitar feels scorned. I don't think players that have left the Kings feel like things are bad once gone. Simmonds got better once away, Justin Williams is playing like he's 24 again, etc. Schenn was at a point where they were probably getting ready to play mind games. Weal would be excited as all hell if he left tomorrow, and Kopitar will leave also if the number isn't at least 9, I don't care if he scores 5 goals this year. There are people out there that believe the Sutter system shackles him.

He's used completely different in Philly than LA. Even today many say he's on a line higher than he should be.

An open lane without opposing players hanging all over him.

You don't think that the way Carter is playing that opposing teams aren't paying attention to him?

I'm tired of the excuses regarding Kopitar's play in the offensive zone.

See Jeff Carter, the Kings new number one Center, who is older than Kopitar.

Also Kopitar has scored career highs with worse wingers, in this exact same system. Sutter didn't change the system much, it's still Terry Murray's/John Stevens.

Enough with that excuse.

Once again, the only person stopping Kopitar from taking the game by the scruff, is Anze Kopitar.

Another note on Kopitar.

Kopitar will eventually pick up his production at some point, it will happen.

But, If we reach the 25 game mark, and Kopitar only has around 10-13 points, it will be another 60 point season for him(maybe even a 50-55). He would have to score over a PPG, for the majority of the rest of the season to reach 70 points.

Kopitar has had a poor start to the season, along with Gabo. Just like last season(for Kopitar). Except this time there is no fatigue excuse for anybody, also Kopitar is not injured

Despite all that, the Pacific is awful, that is fortunate for the Kings. So they should make the playoff's.

Whats wrong with some.

Dude has shown nothing offensively during his whole career so far, so why should we suddenly expect this will change in the NHL ? Its not fair ? He is what he is and might become a great stay at home defenseman.

Again, I have nothing against him so far and I am more than okay with him.

WTF I didn't say he was going to turn into a great offensive player. You stated there's more to an accurate shot and being able to keep the puck in the zone. What I'm saying is what more are you wanting from a defensive dman? God forbid our current offensive guys even hit the net....

You simply can't use 6 games to determine if he's going to work out. Muzzin was terrible for an entire year...

It all starts with your reading problem.

The bolded sentence is all I need to know. I am not going to waste any more time if you are just looking for a discussion that is not there.

Actually it all started with your uneducated statement about needing more than an accurate shot and keeping the puck in but whatever.

Nuh uh, it's Trevor Lewis.
