This really is an abhorrent contract. Hopeful it pays off in the short term.

Money. Term. and the NMC.

Did Chia bother to negotiate? Or did he just fold like he did with the Hall/Larsson deal.

There was legit competition for this player and we had to step to the plate. this is what it was going to cost to get this player. The Hall for Larsson deal still stinks horribly, just an awful awful trade.

Edmonton isn't a place people want to stay in if thing's aren't going well. I think if we do want to move Lucic at the end of his contract it won't be that hard.

I love Hallsy but

Lucic + Larsson > Hall

The complexion of this team has changed completely

What are you missing? The last two years he can submit a last of 10 teams and his actual salary will be half of his cap hit. Budget teams dream.

Yep. Wow, that's some hard negotiating. Isn't 7yrs the most that a free agent signing can get? I don't keep up on the contractual side of things. So does this mean he can't be moved at all in first 5yrs?

I can live with the 6 million term does not matter when you can move bad contracts with picks

You can always jump off the bandwagon. Dump your Oiler gear at a goodwill or value village someone will take it off your hands.

Surprised you did not quote my 1st post on this. I guess you approve of a full nmc for 5 years . Is this a good thing? Chia is not a strong GM not going to stop being a fan because I think we have a moron Gm and because I am A Oiler fan does not mean I have to embrace every idiotic move he does like you do .

Well it took Chiarelli just one year to completely change the complexion of this team up front.

Can anyone call this a small soft team that's easy to play against anymore?

Well, he can be moved if he wants to be moved.

There was just never ANY danger of him not having an NMC. It seems like the first guarantee that would need to be made with an expansion draft looming.

Like, what if Maroon has nearly as good of a year and we need to protect a fourth defenseman. He could be exposed and find himself on an expansion team for 6 years.

Once his contract is up he'll be 34, and with the cap going to 73 mil i really like this deal. deep down Canucks and Flames fans hate this deal, now both teams have to deal with Lucic for the next 7 years .

We'll get some good hockey out of Lucic, but ultimately we will regret this signing prior to his 7 year contract running out. Doesn't have the skill or hockey smarts to age gracefully, he relies very heavily on his physical attributes.

He was getting a NMC no matter where he went

It's funny that each time something more comes from this contract, people find a way to dig at it. People were saying they would be happy with 5 years, the last two years will be bad, hopefully he doesn't slide off after five years, etc. etc. and now that we see a NMC for 5 years it's getting people going again. That's exactly where the NMC should end and it is. Shows that Chia is aware of what everyone on hfboards also is. Lucic plays a hard game and his body will degrade faster than finesse players. so when Lucic is 32 he can be traded. Seems A-OK to me.

He got market value. Okposo got the same deal, and Lucic is a better player IMO. An NMC was a given, so that doesn't surprise me, and I actually like the structure of the deal - if he wears down by the last two years of his contract, move him to Arizona (if they still exist) - players always waive their NTCs to go there, and they love picking up players that cost more in cap space than actual salary.

Gretzky escorted him into the new arena and they played him a promotional video on the new jumbotron. The video contained 30 minutes of McDavid highlights with play by play done by Morgan Freeman. Apparently Lucic teared up and asked for a pen but Pope Francis told him to "be patient my child"
