Some thoughts on the 1st period..

Knights have a lot of talent across the board, felt like they were dangerous almost every shift, especially their passing.

Sam O'Reilly has gotta be moving up the list of draft eligible players in the O this season. Nice goal to finish off the tic-tac-toe passing play from Bonk/Barkey but what stood out to me was they left him out there for the shift after the goal and he made a sound defensive play to exit the zone. Always like to see draft eligible guys play responsibly on both sides of the puck.

Dickinson had a good shift towards the end of the period, attempted to clear the puck, didn't get out, made sure it did on his second attempt and moved up the ice for a shot from the point.

Nicholl looked decent on the couple of shifts I noticed him.
I would have to disagree, respectfully. All I see out there is a team that thinks that they can walk all over the opposing team. Can't get out of there own end at times, horrible PP, sloppy mistakes, can't capitalize on their opportunities. Erie is not the team of old. They are young, quick and aggressive and if we're not careful and get too cute we'll lose the game.

I've gotta ask....why does Sloanie always look beat up? Two games he looks like he's been hit in the face by a puck and a high stick. Last year looked like he got hit from behind...I know the finance / investment world that he's in is a cut throat business...but dude, is he ok?
Looks like he didn't pay his gambling debts!

Appreciate the actual hockey post. I miss these type posts.

Disagree with? Here is a list of points on post you responded to and disagree with.
ORielly moving up draft lists? ( true)
Nice goal with tic tac toe pass? ( true)
ORielly made a solid play under his goal line the next shift? ( very true)
Dickinson having a good shift? ( true)

Or u disagree they have talent across the board? (True)

Please clarify, cause I'm confused which specific points you respectfully disagree with? Tough crowd lol.

First period was markedly different than the second..

I agree with the base of your post when it comes to the Knights 2nd period...

I think the fact that the Knights first goal was scored on a Harlem Globetrotters esque passing play has led them to overpass in the 2nd. I specifically counted 4 times in the 2nd alone where they made the extra pass when they probably shouldn't have. It looks so good when it works but it's detrimental and costing goals or at the very least scoring chances.

Bonk set the tone with a careless turnover 7 seconds into the period. They were too fancy on their 3 on 1.

Cowan needs to use his strength more, he's trying to be Marner when he needs to lower the shoulder and go through/around players. Too many turnovers in all 3 phases of the ice. That penalty needs to get coached out of him ASAP. Neutralized the Knights PP and indirectly led to a couple of Otters goals.

O'Reilly had a good hit in the Dzone to separate his man from the puck, too bad he whiffed on the clearing attempt. Also good poise on the PP to circle the zone and find the right pass.

Dickinson needs to clear the puck from the front of the net when all of his teammates are gassed. Even if it's icing.

Also I personally wasn't a fan of his dump to change when he had 4 fresh teammates and a couple of options. Too gassed at the end of his long shift but the direction to dump that could've come from the bench.

Good call on Erie. they're well coached and come out every shift.. what they lack in talent they're making up for in effort.

Yeah I should have clarified. All you said above is absolutely true. What I really disagreed with was "they looked dangerous on every shift". I don't believe they did. They were too cute with the puck and seem to play like they believe their own hype. Cowan is a star but sometimes his decisions to skate around the O zone are questionable at best. And that PP? Sheesh. If I see one more slow developing cross ice one timer gonna spit out my chewing tobacco.
It says sonething about the special teams when your PK is more dangerous than your PP.
And yes, O'Reilly is going to be a stud.
And, yes, I'll say it again.... We need a pure goal scorer on this team. Too many of our guys are happier making that extra pass than shooting the puck. Good things happen when you shoot the puck at the net.

Well the 4th goal against will be an easy review for the staff.
Had a long post explaining the play from my POV, but probly better I don't. I'll say it started after the G rims it and before 2 NHL drafted D were standing on top of each in the crease. Those that know can figure it out.

It happens and before FP gets on me, not laying blame on 1 player or 1 play but ya need leaders to make those plays is the other side of the coin.

No biggie. Erie earned it.

Hmmm don’t even know what to say…. Erie is good and they are no slouch. London has to stop buying their own hype, and sometimes you gotta put your work boots on and outwork and outskate the opponent. Erie did that tonight, and good on them!

At this point, it’s a good lesson to the boys to up their game.

Disgusting effort, clearly our worst game of the year. Erie deserves full marks for working their otts off. They were the much better team tonight. Butler managed to get his top line (Terrance, Spence) out against our 4th line far too often.
Nice goal by Julien. I thought Nichol would bring more to the table. That 3rd line needs to get going.
PP31 was right to say that after the deadline, some of those bottom 6 guys will be watching from the press box.

One of the worst efforts I have seen from a Knights team in a long time. Too many individual efforts. Too many passengers tonight. Will need to tighten that WAY up before Saginaw.

Full marks to Erie on their compete level. Well deserved W.

Great finish by Julien and vision to make the pass by O'Reilly to take the lead in the 3rd...

They can't give it right back though. Second time tonight that they've let Erie respond less than a minute after scoring. You need a high energy shift to set the tone in those situations.. such a backbreaker.

DZone coverage got progressively worse as the game went on, Just outworked and lackadaisical.

Knights needed someone to create some energy with a high intensity shift of sustained zone time or a big hit or some kind of spark... they just didn't get it. Sawyer Boulton did land a decent hit but it just wasn't enough to get the boys going.

Dickinson had a solid defensive play to save a sure goal about mid-way through the period

Towards the end of the game when the Knights pulled the goalie Dickinson had a shot from the point with Halttunen beaver tapping his stick. Kasper looked less than thrilled when Dickinson shot it. The next instance Dickinson had the puck at the point and he feathered a weak shot attempt towards the net, would like to see him pass off to one of the sideboard options there. He didn't, bad bounce and Erie goes the other way to ice the game.

Erie played a well coached game.

I'm thinking if Filip Mesar goes back to kitchener might be a trade there for him and maybe rehkopf

O'Reilly Nicholl Gaz 3rd 4th? Does that get close ? Does Mark want to move O'Reilly? 🤔
Only trade O'Reilly if it's a must
London would have to trade more than that for both Filip Mesar and Carson Rehkopf. It will be likely the players you listed and two or three, 2nds and two or three, 3rds.

Erie pushed the pace and as the game went on, found holes in the London defence. Good job by them.

Far too many clearing attempts up the middle. Doesnt work with a forecheck like we saw tonight.

The Knights like to stretch the ice, but Im seeing a team handcuffed by rigid adherence to a system that is easily defended. Just clog the passing lanes.

4th goal was a complete screen, Simpson couldnt be faulted on that one.

Julien showed great hands on his goal. O'Reilly is growing on me.

You are not going to outwork this Otters team. They deserved the win.

It’s still very early, but I’m not loving the team play so far. Last year’s version had a little more talent but they played a lot better as a team and the roles were defined. Still a ways to go to iron things out but it is what it is.

Peterborough ate those stretch passes up last year for dinner. Too easy to defend it seemed.

'Small things' add up to blown London Knights lead, 5-3 loss to Erie

Ryan Pyette
Dale Hunter’s milestone 908th coaching victory will have to wait.
His Knights blew a two-goal advantage near the end of the second period and gave up another lead in the third as Erie scored three straight to stun London 5-3 before 9,036 Friday at Budweiser Gardens.
“We let them back in it,” said defenceman Oliver Bonk, who assisted on all three Knights goals. “That’s on us. We played OK for some of the game, but not the full 60 (minutes) we wanted. We need to look at our systems again. We were messing up a lot of the small things causing those goals.
“We wanted to get (the win for Hunter). I guess we’ll refocus and get it next game.”
Hunter remains tied for second in OHL history with the late Bert Templeton. He was denied the go-ahead win by Stan Butler, the fourth-winningest coach in league annals.
“It’s going to happen,” the Otters bench boss said. “Dale is a great coach. What he and (brother Mark) have done here in London, they’re the model franchise. I have great respect for both of them. I’ve been on the losing end a lot here and any time you can come in here and bounce back like we did, it’s an encouraging sign.”
