Lombardi says they will NOT be buying out Richards

Would you get rid of Richards if it meant signing Ehrhoff to a cheaper deal?

No need to swap Richards to make room.I believe simply moving RR would be enough. But I for one don't believe at this time we need another d-men...

His ice time and production have gone down and Lombardi threw out some quotes that were not an endorsement of him at all. For whatever reason, Lombardi seems pretty sour on him, which is weird cause he's a solid all-around player. I will believe he's not being traded when I see him playing in a Kings uniform through next season.

Not buying him out for this coming season, right? There's still a chance he could be bought out in the future.

It's not impossible, but seems improbable, because this summer would have been a no-strings-attached compliance buyout, where a buyout from here on out would cost us. Theoretically it's possible, especially if he falls into total untradeable disrepair, but I'd personally file it under unlikely. I personally think he bounces back in a big way, but I think there will always be a trade taker for a Mike Richards.

Are you the guy that used to post on the Flyers board and spoke in the third person?

The hate is what makes the wine from the CUPS even sweeter.

It's too bad that we can't postpone our compliance buyout til next year. I too think Richards will have a nice bounce back year. Hopefully, it'll be for more than just a year.

With Richards most likely playing as our 2C, this means someone like Shore may have a shot at making our 4C.

Why on Earth would the Kings break up Pearson/Carter/Toffoli?

I am cool with Richards back this year in the role he ended last year, or even sliding up to replace Stoll if his conditioning improves, but he and Carter were horrendous as a 2nd line, especially defensively. I think it would be a really bad idea to put 77/10 back together.

And then what do you do with Toffoli?

And that's a valid question. However, Richards makes too much money to be our everyday 4C. So, as long as Richards comes to training camp ready to play, I'm sure Sutter will give him every opportunity, and then some, to recapture his 2C position.

Toffoli would be our 1RW with Brownie sliding down to 3LW playing with Stoll and JW. Solid 3 lines.

That's provided Toffoli/Pearson come to play next season in shape along with Richards.

This will be a short off-season and kids are not immune to being lazy. They also just won a cup.

Toffoli/Pearson have yet to play a full season, this will also be the dreaded Sophomore season for them. They still both played sheltered minutes in the playoff's, few nights they got over 15 minutes a game.

No one wants to break up that line, but be realistic, this is Sutter we are talking about here. The first night Toffoli/Pearson struggle(they will) they are going back right into bottom six roles.

Richards will be given every opportunity to regain his 2C spot. I don't agree with it, but I am realistic about next season.

It wouldn't surprise me if Richards gets another shot as the 2C. Sutter has always seemed to give Richards the benefit of the doubt, but I disagree with the philosophy of a a players pay influencing what line they play on. Who gets to play where should be decided based on how it best benefits the team winning and that's all. How much those players get paid should have zero bearing on that. It always boggles my mind when teams in any sport give higher paid players more time over other guys who are playing better. It's a negative double whammy.

I'd love to see Richards EARN his spot back on the 2nd line by improving his play, but that's the only reason he should be put back there. Hopefully Richards steps up his play and earns his paycheck from here on out.
