Definitely agree, though there's also the optimistic view that both continue to play well. D play should improve significantly with 3 solid pairs, and the pressure taken off Carlson to play 97 minutes a night could up his game, too. Our side of the ice is looking better than it has in a while.

I’d do this trade again tomorrow. We have done much better so far and we will parlay to a long term number 1 or we trade him for way more than we paid. they will start negotiating with Thompson and Lindgren in January and have one (maybe both) signed before the trade deadline. It will be a game of cat and mouse which we will never see. I trust our leadership to get it done.

Wow...a reply...only took 4 months. I'm flattered. The Org has made good moves in the off season and the proof is very visible.

"2 draft picks" ...2 3rd rounders to be specific. If we got a league average goalie for that it'd be fair value.

But Thompson hasn't been league average. You do know GSAX is a counting stat, right? So it punishes Thompson for playing fewer games than most #1s? On Moneypuck if you look at GSAX/60 he goes from 14th to 3rd (out of the 41 goalies who've played 7+ games). The fancy stats say he's been one of the best starters in the league, and getting that for a pair of 3rds and a cap hit below league minimum is amazing value.
