This debate would be fine if a couple posters stopped using the 'anti-stan' conspiracy as part of their posts... @Buffdog makes good points and then sewers his own post with a needless comment about stan haters

Stan is not good enough for pk2 - thats a clear fact... he doesnt recover from his mistakes at the speed our other D does and that leads to high danger chances

But hes a lock on our third pair and likely miller gets bumped if we trade at TD... so theres not much to do except hope that he keeps getting better

There are about 10 dmen who would be legit improvements for pk2 at TD... but colin miller was that guy last year and we benched him for stan... so who knows...

My issue with Stanley isn't about his use on the 3rd pair during the regular season, especially if part of the reason is to spell off Lowry in the helmet-punching domain. The regular season is a long grind. But I'm much less comfortable If the plan is to prepare Stanley for a top-6 role in the playoffs, where the margin for error is much smaller. Opponents will find ways to exploit weak spots, including a 3rd pair in a playoff series.

We saw it last playoffs, where the Jets' coaches inexplicably broke up a very effective 3rd pair (Samberg-Schmidt) to force Stanley into the lineup (shunting Samberg to his off side without prior preparation). The result was bad, and Stanley was benched after 3 games. Stanley can't be blamed for all that went wrong in the 1st round but it was a very questionable decision that worked out badly. That's why I think the Jets can't afford to plan around Stanley in the 3rd pair. Maybe I'm wrong, but it certainly seems like one of the Jets weakest positions going into the playoffs.
The problem was Schmidt was not very good down the stretch. What might have been statistically good for a time went bad. I can remember yelling at the tv and saying to friends Schmidt is going to cost us games. Trying to remember who he gave the breakaway chance against at the end of the season that he ended up getting a game winning assist because Helly made the save. Fast forward to playoffs and Sammy-Schmidt was arguably worse than Stan-Samberg. They were game 3, which was a decisive loss. Schmidt was all around awful the whole playoff and injured Namestnikov to boot with his wild shot in game 4.

Stan hasn't been good this year. But he's survived. Had some impact hits on some key players I think that's the one area that goes unnoticed.

If the Jets move Heinola, and upgrade at 3LD for a run, I'd like to see Stanley-Coghlan as the primary defensive depth, and Fleury as #9.

I will give Stan credit for one thing. Usually our board here is a bit nutty and members can get cranked up over small shit (to say the least). It’s been my experience that when you go to the Jets games the fans are more normal. Stan is one of the few cross over artists that gets as much hate live from gen pop as he does on HFBoards Crazy lunatic zone. That is hard to pull off on the bottom pair or 4th line.

This one fan behind us was merciless. He had a running commentary going mocking Stanley and fans were kind of laughing along with it.

Honestly kinda shocked by this -- obvs can't attend games anymore but don't think I sa anything like that whilst we were going regularly, though there as one loudmouth who yelled "Shoooooooooot!" through any PP or extended cycle.

Stan isn't going anywhere until he is, a la Beaulieu. And until then he'll be what he is. It ould be great to have options come the playoffs to limit his exposure to speed and skill but maybe he finds another gear or is sufficiently sheltered not to panic.

I am a bit surprised that the Ville/ Stan trial ended -- though they were starting to develop a bit togther, at least in the games I was able to see.

I can't get behind booing or riding him (or any player really) at games. His usage and seeming immunity is down to the org. By all accounts he's a hard worker and good dude on and off the ice. Yeah, he's making some coin, but so what? Doesn't deserve to be heckled for doing what he can.

And he ain't some head-hunting goon like that Schiefele kid. Just ask them Habs fans.
